Ayorinde Mafoluku Ayodele (born July 18, 2005) known professionally as Ayo Maff is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.[1] He is best known for his song “dealer” featuring Fireboy Dml which made it to top 5 on Apple Music Nigeria and number one on Audiomack, Spotify, Turntable charts and Shazam.[2][3][4][5] On 15 August, he released his debut extended play Maffian.
Background and education
[edit]Ayo Maff hails from Lagos State, Nigeria and grew up in Somolu, Bariga. He attended his formative education in Lagos and also completed his secondary education in Somolu, Bariga, Lagos State.
Growing up Ayo Maff was exposed to a rich cultural environment that significantly influenced his musical journey, he speaks English and Yoruba fluently.[6][7]
Career
[edit]Ayo began his career as a singer during his early years. He dedicated himself to honing his singing skills, often practicing for hours and studying various musical genres to develop his unique sound. Known in his Somolu neighbourhood as a budding singer, Ayo Maff began sharing his freestyles on Instagram, where his engaging performances and talent garnered him a growing following.[8]
His big break came with the release of his debut single, "Jama Jama", the track that brought him to prominence.[1]
This song also went viral on social media with about 40,000 videos made with the sound on TikTok, with all other social media platforms generating good numbers as well. The success of “Jama Jama” paved way for Ayo Maff, allowing him to collaborate with top Nigerian artists and producers, further refining his artistry and expanding his reach.[6]
In January 2024, Ayo Maff released a two-track project: "Street Anthem" and "7 Days"; both songs concern police brutality.[9]
Later in 2024, Ayo Maff released the song "Dealer" featuring Fireboy DML plugged by Olaitan Salaudeen.[10] This collaboration has significantly boosted his popularity, and given him widespread recognition.[11]
The song "Dealer" is claimed to have showcased Ayo Maff's lyrical prowess and ability to create compelling narratives in his music, earning him critical acclaim and a larger fanbase. The single has made it to top 5 on Apple Music Nigeria, Top 10 on YouTube, Number one on Spotify, Audiomack and Shazam, Top 6 on TurnTable charts.[12][13][2] It also entered top 200 global most Shazamed songs and was listed among 10 Hot Songs by 10 Rising Nigerian Artists in the First Half of 2024 by Zikoko magazine and number 2 on top radio picks by the cable lifestyle [14][15][16]
In April 2024, Ayo Maff released visuals of his song dealer with Fireboy and the song has so far garnered 2.5 million views on YouTube and currently charting in Top 10 music videos.[17]
Ayo Maff was listed among the top 10 Gen Z artists taking Nigeria by storm.[18] On August 15, 2024, Ayo Maff released his debut EP, “Maffian” to critical acclaim. This 7-track project follows hot on the heels of his single, "Last Week," which set the stage for the gritty, unapologetic sound that pulses throughout the EP. A project that instantly brought him into the rookie of the year conversation. [1]
