Ava (Persian: آوا) is a city in Samalqan District of Samalqan County,[a] North Khorasan province, Iran. The city was formed in 2013 from the merger of the villages of Shahrabad-e Khavar and Shahrabad-e Kord.[4]

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the population (as the total of the two villages before their merger) was 3,615 in 927 households, when they were in Qazi Rural District.[5][b] The following census in 2011 counted 4,058 people in 1,187 households.[7] The 2016 census measured the population as 3,993 people in 1,268 households,[2] by which time the two villages had been merged to form the new city of Ava.[4]
