The men's 400 metres hurdles event at the 1961 Summer Universiade was held at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia, Bulgaria,[1] on 31 August and 1 September 1961.

Morale's winning margin was 1.66 seconds which as of 2024 remains the only time the men's 400 metres hurdles was won by more than 1.1 seconds at these games.
