History

[edit]

In June 2011, Neel Mehta and Nihar Vartak founded Asteria Aerospace with the idea of developing drones for defence applications.[3] Later, Reliance Industries’ arm Jio Platforms acquired a majority stake of the company in December 2019.[4]

It has built three Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) certified drones including A200, which received the India's first micro category drone certification in October, 2022.[5][6] The other two drones are A200-XT and A410-XT.[7]

Technologies

[edit]

In March 2022, Asteria launched SkyDeck, a cloud-based drone operations platform that has a unified dashboard and offers services for drone fleet management which include flight planning and execution, data processing, visualization, and AI-based analysis of aerial data collected using drones.[8][9][10]

This platform was showcased in the Drone Festival of India 2022, where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi examined the platform by flying one of SkyDesk integrated drones. It provides services to multiple industries such as GIS, construction, oil & gas, and agriculture.[11][12][13]

Services

[edit]

Asteria designs and manufactures multiple drone platforms ranging from 2 to 25 kg by using its hardware, software, analytics, and drone operations to provide Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS) ministrations to various fields such as surveillance & security, land surveys, and inspection of assets like pipelines, powerlines, and telecom towers.[14][15]
