Reception
[edit]Noel Perrin in The New York Times stated that overall the book is "remarkable"; he stated there was "overwriting", and wished that the book had some sort of "plot" instead of solely focusing the narrative on her inner thoughts.[2]
Publishers Weekly described the writing style as "luminous", and that her showing her rememberances with "original immediacy and force" enhances the writing.[3]
Evelyn Small, in Washington Post, stated that with the book, the author "helped usher in the age of memoirs."[4]
