Acha of Deira was a princess of Deira, and the daughter of Ælla of Deira.[1][2] Her brother is Edwin of Northumbria, her grandfather was Yffe of Deira but besides from him her earlier heritage is unknown.[citation needed]

Biography

She married Æthelfrith, king of Bernicia.[3] He may have married her prior to taking power in Deira, in which case the marriage may have facilitated it, or he may have done so afterwards in order to consolidate his position there.[4][5] They had eight children:
