The 3rd Children's and Family Emmy Awards were presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), to honor the best in American children's and family-oriented television programming in 2023 and 2024, following on from the 2nd Children's and Family Emmy Awards, which were held in December 2023. The ceremony is set to be held in early 2025, marking a permanent move for the awards, which held the first two iterations in December. The eligibility period ran from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, mirroring that of the Primetime Emmy Awards.[1]

The winners will be announced during two ceremonies, one focused on creative and technical arts, and the other dedicated to performances and programming. Nominations are set to be revealed during the week of November 18, 2024.

Background

[edit]

For the 2023 ceremony, the NATAS announced several changes for different categories and eligibility rules:[2][3]

  • Outstanding Short Form Program has been split into two separate categories (Outstanding Live Action Short Form Program, and Outstanding Animated Short Form Program), with a time limit of eight minutes for both categories.
  • Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design has been split into two separate categories (Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Single Camera Program, and Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Multiple Camera Program)
  • Outstanding Host has been renamed Outstanding Children's Personality, and teams are no longer eligible. Programs with more than one host, co-host, narrator, or storyteller may enter individually, with programs permitted to enter more than once.
  • Outstanding Main Title and Graphics has been renamed Outstanding Show Open, and is now inclusive of the opening music and/or theme song. All opening music and songs are now no longer eligible in either Outstanding Original Song category.
  • All acting categories are being renamed to Outstanding Performer rather than Performance
  • Submissions in the Outstanding Puppeteer Performer, Outstanding Voice Performance in a Preschool Program, Outstanding Voice Performance in a Children’s or Young Teen Program, Outstanding Younger Voice Performer, Outstanding Single Camera Directing, Outstanding Multiple Camera Directing, and Outstanding Puppet Design/Styling now have the option to include a supplementary behind the scenes or making of video in addition to their required submission video.
  • One category was removed: Outstanding Promotional Announcement
