2025 Uttarakhand municipal general elections[1][2] will be held on 23 January 2025 to elect members of 101 of the 103 regular municipalities[a] in the state. Elections in Kichha would be held on 30 January and elections in Narendranagar will be held later this year along panchayat elections. There are 11 Municipal Corporations, 45 Municipal Councils and 50 Nagar Panchayats[b] in the state of Uttarakhand. Elections are being conducted in all of the 11 municipal corporations, 44 municipal councils, and 47 nagar panchayats.
Background
[edit]The schedule of the tenure of urban local bodies in Uttarakhand excluding Roorkee, Bajpur, Selakui, Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Gangotri was supposed to end on 2 December 2023. However, elections were delayed due to the delay in delimitation of the constituencies and the publication of rolls. The term of the above-mentioned municipalities also ended on 22 November 2024. The election will be held on 23 January and the results will be declared on 25 January.[3] The state election commission announced that elections will be held in all urban bodies barring Kichha and Narendranagar. The elections in Kichha would be held about a week later and the elections in Narendranagar would be held later alongside the panchayat elections later this year.
Election Schedule
[edit]The election schedule was announced by the state election commission on 23 December 2024.[4] The election commission is also expected to announce the schedule for the local body elections in Narendranagar.
