The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to the John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton "for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks". It was announced by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm, Sweden, on 8 October 2024. One of the first neural networks, the Hopfield network, was derived from Hopfield's work on the physics of spin glasses.[1]
