The Pirates were eliminated from postseason contention after a 14–1 loss to the Cubs on September 14, 2019.[2] Manager Clint Hurdle was fired an hour before the start of the final game of the 2019 season. Tom Prince, the Pirates' bench coach, managed the team for the season finale.[3]
