The 54th Cannes Film Festival took place from 9 to 20 May 2001.[1][2] Norwegian actress and director Liv Ullmann was named Jury President for the main competition. Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti won the Palme d'Or for the drama film The Son's Room.[3][4][5]

The festival opened with Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann,[6][7] and closed with Savage Souls by Raúl Ruiz.[8]
