Notes
[edit]- ^ Game was closed to the public. Although the Chicago Tribune called it "nothing more than a practice for both elevens",[9] Northwestern University includes the game in its official season records.[10] The Tribune reported the score as 4–0, counting the touchdown as only four points, despite the value of a touchdown having changed from 4 to 5 points in 1897. Northwestern records and the Chicago Inter Ocean give the score as 5–0.
