Wikipedia talk:Sockpuppetry/Notes for the accuser
Instructions
[edit]I consider myself fairly intelligent, and I'm having trouble following these instructions. A little more nowiki demonstration with a fictional example would be useful. --woggly 06:44, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right. I messed it up, it's quite hard to understand... I'll try to fix it (but haven't got enough time right away). Please make sure you keep this page on your watch list so you can comment it when I'm done

Sigh ..
[edit]could these please be fixed? For example, it's not at all obvious whether the "evidence" section is to be signed or not. I decided not to sign it, because it's not a talk page and decisions should presumably be made on the basis of the facts, not the identities of the involved.
Guess I was wrong about that. I tried to fix use of the Socksuspect2 template, but there are other points in which these notes disagree with the instructions for reporting a sockpuppet. Quite confusing.

Obvious
[edit]In re a case where the subject of an article has used at least eight socks (so far) to edit an article about himself, loading it with excessive links to his primary employer, etc., and in fact was the first person to write it:
- as none of the user/IPs carry the actual name of the subject, how does one choose which to designate "puppetmaster"? — Athænara ✉ 15:55, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Sharing WP:SSP's instructions
[edit]The "Reporting suspected sock puppets" section over at WP:SSP has undergone a revamp, not only getting some bells and whistles (a search box and a report-creation box) but also changing the sequence of steps: now we collect the evidence first, then create and list the report, and then tag the sockpuppets and notify the puppetmaster -- when we know what the file name is, and we know it's not a redlink, because we've already created it.
Rather than try to rewrite "Notes for the accuser" to match, I've simply transcluded the WP:SSP section's text over here, so both pages will stay in agreement -- whatever problems or fixes or changes occur.
I've left the previous text commented out on the page, in case anyone decides they liked something there better, and want to carry forward some of its features, or even just go back to that version. All the options are left open.... -- Ben TALK/HIST 04:20, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
How come it is so easy to monitor Willy on Wheels and so hard to monitor others?
[edit]I am constantly coming across socks of User:Hkelkar and I am by no means a paranoid person. I reported one and although I provided numerous diffs I was not believed. I've just reported another, but it takes time and I probably haven't formatted it correctly. I'm sick of taking time dealing with this person. It feels like feeding the trolls. In the meantime, I have been accused of antisemitism and another user with whom I have no quarrel at all has picked me up for incivility. I am starting to wonder why I bother to try and edit in a fair way. Itsmejudith 20:51, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
