Problem with changing username.

[edit]

I want to change my username to Lucy LostWord, which I usually go by, but it said it was taken and I saw it was registered on MediaWiki, then I remembered that was me who had made a MediaWiki account when searching for somewhere to make a new wiki. If I log into that account and change its username, will I be able to the change the username of this account to Lucy LostWord? I do not want to make that other account my main.

It will need to be manually handled. Go post over at meta:Steward_requests/Username_changes#Requests_involving_merges.2C_usurps_or_other_complications. You will need to be able to log on to both accounts to prove they are you. — xaosflux Talk 00:12, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am confused. I'm on mobile so there isn't a button to make a post on there and it seems hard to do it based on the other posts.

14-day hold period

There is an ongoing discussion about extending the hold period for username usurpation requests to 14 days. Please join the discussion and share your views. Thanks! – DreamRimmer (talk) 17:49, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Although I eventually found a link to the CHU archives on the main page, I originally found the latest archive page by searching through the contributions of the bot that clears out old entries. It would be very helpful if, like other noticeboards like ANI or RSN or VP, if there was an archive box on the main page with a search feature. I don't think this is actually very complicated but not being a renamer, I hesitate to set this up myself. But it seems in my admin work, I have cause to try to track down renames. I usually find evidence by looking at the page history for a User page, as that page will be moved after an editor rename, but a lot of editors do not have a User page and it would be easiest if I could just search here. What do you think? Liz Read! Talk! 23:12, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Did you miss taking a look at Wikipedia:Changing username#Archives? Regards, Aafi (talk) 07:31, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But I'd perhaps agree on moving out the archives to: WP:CHUS (simple ones) and WP:CHUU (usurpation ones). It seems a bit complex to maintain the archive list at WP:CHU#Archives. Regards, Aafi (talk) 07:34, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aafi: What do you mean by "moving out the archives"? The archive box at Wikipedia:Changing username/Archives can simply be transcluded. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 15:53, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka, sorry for the choice of my words. I meant that instead of maintaining the entire archives for Simple/Usurpations at Wikipedia:Changing username/Archives - we should maintain them separately at WP:CHUS and WP:CHUU - for easier navigation. Yes, these can simply be translcuded but I don't want to apply WP:BOLD here and do it right away. Regards, Aafi (talk) 15:57, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
