New names for service awards

[edit]

BD2412 I created a list of proposed janitor-themed alternative names here. I changed "Registered Administrator" to "New Administrator" because, while "registered" works for recently created accounts, most admins are not recently registered. - ZLEA T\C 17:08, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, what if the "book" versions of the award are mops instead of books. - ZLEA T\C 17:13, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I like that. Mops, perhaps other cleaning supplies like brooms and vacuum cleaners. Start with a sponge, perhaps. bd2412 T 23:36, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I started an incomplete list of mop-type award ideas on that same sandbox. I think the awards should just be mops (specifically the admin mop), as that way they would be easily recognized as an admin award. Therefore, most of the award ideas have been variants of mops or mops with water buckets (the only exception is the feather duster, the first award, but when I design that one I will base it on the same mop image as the others). - ZLEA T\C 02:07, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I added "Quantum mop" at the end - I'm envisioning a mop that appears to exist in multiple phases simultaneously. Also, perhaps change "blessed by a priest" to "holy man" or some equivalent, for greater inclusiveness? bd2412 T 03:06, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I also added a "42% dark matter" water bucket. - ZLEA T\C 12:32, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. Should the last one be "Quantum Janitor" or "Quantum Custodian"? bd2412 T 13:11, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Quantum Custodian sounds better. - ZLEA T\C 13:22, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ribbon design

[edit]

I can go ahead and create SVGs of ribbons for these awards, but I'd like some input. The colors used in the regular service awards were basically bronze, silver, purple, and gold. I'd like to use some different colors - perhaps maroon, a deep blue, gold (for the top levels) and something to contrast the maroon and blue. I also don't believe incremental awards are necessary, or even truly appropriate, so I won't be working on those. Are there any other ideas for designs or accoutrements? — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 06:28, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I like those colors. I think the Vanguard Administrator (Quantum Janitor) ribbon should be black. - ZLEA T\C 12:31, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I like black with gold accents for the top levels like the Service Awards have, but I'm not sure about the ship's wheels for the admin ribbons. Perhaps if I can figure out how to make a key look good. Black with a gold key for Vanguard, and bronze and silver for the two Grandmasters? — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 02:54, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that there should be no incremental awards in this group. bd2412 T 04:15, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ZLEA and BD2412: I started with what is mostly just palette changes for the service awards and displayed them in ZLEA's sandbox. I'm not really satisfied with it, but I always appreciate other people's opinions. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 06:57, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I like most of the designs. I would change the first two to the same blue as the 3rd ribbon, the first ribbon with two vertical white bars on the left side, and the second ribbon with one white bar. - ZLEA T\C 13:26, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
 Done I used silver instead of white to match the dots on ribbons 4, 5, and 6. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 22:55, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have also created small ribbons based upon the large ribbons, as I did for the editor service awards. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 01:30, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. Please feel free to add them to the page however you would like. bd2412 T 02:26, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'll probably work up a table as at Wikipedia:Service awards, and possibly begin working on a couple templates akin to {{Service awards}} also. I'll update my progress here. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 00:14, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The ribbons are done, and there are columns in the table for medals and "book" images as well. I might be able to muddle my way through making very basic SVGs of the medals, but my skills at Photoshop or other image manipulation programs leave much to be desired. I'll begin working on a sample medal, but I'm pretty sure we would need assistance for the "book" images. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 04:45, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I will make the "book" (mop) awards when I have the time. I'm busy at the moment, but they shouldn't be hard to make. - ZLEA T\C 13:22, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I added a sample New Administrator medal to the table here. I am open to any suggestion and/or criticism. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 04:49, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why the random count jumps

[edit]

Why are there seemingly random jumps in the number of actions required to get to the next level, particularly at the higher levels?

  • Master Administrator II: 900
  • Master Administrator III: 900
  • Master Administrator IV: 1800
  • Grandmaster Administrator: 12200
  • Grandmaster Administrator First-Class: 16000
  • Vanguard Administrator: 6000

I can't see any pattern here. Jayjg (talk) 17:57, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest the following jumps and action counts to fix this:
  • New Administrator: N/A (1 action)
  • Novice Administrator: 9 (10 actions)
  • Apprentice Administrator: 90 (100 actions)
  • Journeyman Administrator: 100 (200 actions)
  • Yeoman Administrator: 150 (350 actions)
  • Experienced Administrator: 150 (500 actions)
  • Veteran Administrator: 300 (800 actions)
  • Veteran Administrator II: 400 (1,200 actions)
  • Veteran Administrator III: 600 (1,800 actions)
  • Veteran Administrator IV: 800 (2,600 actions)
  • Senior Administrator: 900 (3,500 actions)
  • Senior Administrator II: 1,000 (4,500 actions)
  • Senior Administrator III: 1,200 (5,700 actions)
  • Master Administrator: 1,300 (7,000 actions)
  • Master Administrator II: 2,000 (9,000 actions)
  • Master Administrator III: 3,000 (12,000 actions)
  • Master Administrator IV: 5,000 (17,000 actions)
  • Grandmaster Administrator: 10,000 (27,000 actions)
  • Grandmaster Administrator First-Class: 15,000 (42,000 actions)
  • Vanguard Administrator: 20,000 (62,000 actions)
Thoughts? - ZLEA T\C 18:52, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Those numbers seem reasonable. If there aren't any objections, I'll update the template code I'm working on. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 01:12, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with that proposal. Cheers! bd2412 T 01:32, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Completed Templates

[edit]

I've finished making the medal image, medal userbox, large ribbon, and top icon templates for all the levels. {{Admin service awards}} has also been created and is ready for use. I'm just waiting for the various mop images, then I'll be able to make the mop image and userbox templates. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 01:19, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, thanks. I am wondering whether it would be possible to make the Quantum Custodian badge an animated GIF. Something like a mop backed by a rotating starfield. bd2412 T 01:31, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why not. I think that's an excellent idea. — Jkudlick ⚓ t ⚓ c ⚓ s 02:16, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Any issue with using File:Mop.svg?

[edit]

@Jkudlick: I see that you need a mop image for the alt award, maybe you could use Mop.svg? Seemplez 10:33, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Seemplez Actually, I said that I would create the mop awards but never got around to it. I will try to create them when I have time. - ZLEA T\C 18:32, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Late to the party here, but it seems like a "basic" version of the mop would be to slap a small version of the "topicon" on the mop handle, running vertically down the handle, perhaps with the color of the "mop-head" matching the star. Maybe something special added on to the highest levels to represent the "key." I'm not a graphic artist, these are just some ideas. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:39, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The one with the plutonium keys or whatever, help!

[edit]

Alright, who's in charge here? Who has the "Vanguard Administrator Quantum Custodian Gold Service Badge with Gold Keys to the Encyclopedia"? I don't have time for messing about. LOL 112.213.221.244 (talk) 05:21, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
