Introduction In February 2006, New York State Route 365 was nominated for deletion. The article was kept amidst heavy consensus. Almost one year later, Dutchess County Route 66 was sent to AFD as part of a series of highway-related deletion discussions. Like NY 365, CR 66 was kept. To prevent further AFDs in the future, every effort should be made to expand each and every article covered by NYSR and NYCR to be the best articles that they can be. A article improvement drive has been started by WP:USRD; feel free to nominate an article that appears to be in dire need of improvement or expansion. In this issue, NYSDOT announces plans for its newest state route, announces plans for another construction project and updates the public on a key study in downstate New York.
Project News New York State Route 17K was picked as this month's project featured article. Three more articles, New York State Route 15, New York State Route 31 and New York State Route 55, are being considered for March. Vote or recommend another article today! Looking for something to do? Articles needing cleanup can always be found at Category:New York State articles needing work. Both state and county routes needing cleanup are fed into this category. County routes in New York still needs pictures of actual county route shields, some additional text and more details about the history of county routes in New York State. Also check Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in New York (state) for roads that need pictures. General reminders: For reference route articles: Use {{Infobox NY Reference Route}}. Link to your new article (or, if necessary, add it) on the List of New York State Reference Routes and Parkway Routes. See TwinsMetsFan or Fwgoebel for reference markers. For county route articles: Be sure to abide by the guidelines on the project page, to maintain a consistent feel across all of the articles. See TwinsMetsFan or Northenglish for shields. New York State Route 11A is still the lowest active route without an article. The lowest decommissioned route with no article is now New York State Route 20A. No articles were nominated for Good or Featured Article status this month. References for New York State Route 52's history section are urgently needed so that the article can be renominated for GA in the coming months. Pictures are also desired for New York State Route 104 to bolster a potential GA nomination. There are NY routes still lacking mileposts. Please note that the standard for mileposts in junction tables has now been increased to the nearest hundredth of a mile, to match the precision of the NYSDOT Traffic Counts. If possible, update any tables that you may come across to match this new standard. Anyone that needs the 2005 (most recent) counts can download them here.
Member News A flurry of members joined the NYSR/NYCR "family" this past month. On 15 January, Vishwin60, an active participant in many other U.S. road projects, joined. On 24 January, MichaelR. signed up. On 27 January, Jgcarter became a member. On 15 February, JohnnyAlbert10, a major contributor to PA roads, signed on. A warm, New York (wow, that's a paradox) welcome to everyone!
Newest state route to go airborne By TwinsMetsFan A 11 February Times-Herald Record article confirmed that Orange County Route 54, Drury Lane, will be named New York State Route 747, the number an homage to the road's expected purpose as a connection between Interstate 84 and Stewart International Airport. The road, currently undergoing construction, is expected to be given the NY 747 designation when the renovations (as well as exit 5A on I-84) are completed at the end of 2007. Tappan Zee study progress to be released By TwinsMetsFan Two open houses will be held by NYSDOT, the New York State Thruway Authority and the MTA Metro-North Railroad on 27 February and 28 February in Rockland County and Westchester County to inform attendees of the latest progress on an environmental study regarding Interstate 287 and the Tappan Zee Bridge. Route 12B to receive safety upgrades By TwinsMetsFan NYSDOT held a meeting in Hamilton on 8 February to discuss a proposed project to improve New York State Route 12B in Hamilton and Madison in Madison County. The project will encompass 1.5 miles of Route 12B from the village line north into Madison. The project, which will improve the NY 12B/Airport Road and NY 12B/English Avenue intersections and introduce safety measures to the roadway, has no given timetable. Source: NYSDOT Press Release
