On this page may be found a pool of articles that are stubs or missing entirely. If you have the urge to work on something new to you, this is a good place to start.
Specificaly requested articles
[edit]This is usually a good place to start, if only because you know that somebody out there is waiting partiently for more information on some particular topic.
Articles requested here
[edit]On occasion, users will post requested articles directly to this page. These are sometimes completed first because somebody was kind enough to acknowledge our existance.
- Articles that are in need of creation/destubbing
- New wikipedia entry for Soluble NSF attachment protein
- New wikipedia entry for Synaptosomal-associated protein
- New wikipedia pages for CA1P-phosphatase are needed at RuBisCO.
- New wikipedia pages for desmocollins are needed at Intermediate filament.
- New wikipedia pages for ParM are needed at Cytoskeleton.
- New wikipedia pages for bacterial MotA, MotB, FliG, FliM, and FliN motor components are needed at Motor protein.
- New wikipedia entry for protein Sliding clamp loader (Sliding Clamp)
- New wikipedia entries for protein channel and protein pump (highschool/SAT biology)
- New wikipedia entry for sex-linked mutation (highschool/SAT biology) - redirected to Sex linkage.
- New wikipedia entry for specificity (biochemistry) (highschool/SAT biology) - disambig page at specificity only contains other meanings
- Destubbing for Secondary cell wall (intro bio topic)
- New wikipedia entry for Communication protein (intro bio topic)
- New wikipedia entry for Recognition protein (intro bio topic)
- New wikipedia entry for Calcium pump (intro bio topic) - possibly a redirect to another page, but which one? (Calcium ATPase, Plasma membrane Ca2+ ATPase, Sodium-calcium exchanger, Potassium-dependent sodium-calcium exchanger, SERCA?)
- New wikipedia entry for Membrane cycling (intro bio topic)
- New wikipedia entry for ATP/ADP cycle (intro bio topic)
- New wikipedia entry for electron transfer phosphorylation (intro bio topic, common principle of photophosphorylation and oxidative phosphorylation)
- New wikipedia entry for anaerobic electron transfer (intro bio topic; in archaea and bacteria)
- Destubbing for MYB (protooncogene)
- New wikipedia entry for ICE-like protease - mentioned in intro bio textbook in the context of apoptosis, but I couldn't find a page for it yet - older name for caspase. Redirected.
- New wikipedia entry for cyst (microbiology) - mentioned in intro bio textbook in the context of protozoa such as Giardia forming protective cysts
- New article Microbial cyst created and Encystment redirected to it.- TwoOars (Rev) 18:07, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- New wikipedia entry for gland cell (intro bio topic)
- New wikipedia entry for synaptic integration - possibly as part of either neurotransmission or chemical synapse (intro bio topic)
- New Wikipedia article for L-5-vinyl-2-thiooxazolidone, a goitrogenic compound found in vegetables in the genus Brassica
- New wikipedia entry for Synechocystis (cyanobacterium, model organism - was the first photosynthetic organism to have its genome completely sequenced)
Wikipedia:Requested articles
[edit]Perhaps the richest source of red links on all of Wikipedia, the Wikipedia:Requested articles is essentially unexplored territory. The sections that are of most interest to this project live at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Natural sciences/Biology.
Lists of topics
[edit]The main space pages are repositories containing dozens of links to a myriad subjects of interest to molecular and cellular biology. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, if you're bored), a large number of these links are red. There are several such lists, including, and probably not limited to:
- List of basic biochemistry topics
- List of biochemistry topics
- List of biomolecules
- List of molecular biology topics
Articles needing attention
[edit]- Main category: MCB articles needing attention
- Major category: Molecular and Cellular Biology articles needing expert attention
If you happen to have the desire to work on something new, but don't want to make the effort to create from scratch, an excellent source of lonely articles can be found at Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Biology. Here, one may find articles ranging from stubs to delisted featured articles. All, however, are biology articles that need some degree of work.
Assistance requested at Keratoconus
[edit]Keratoconus is a featured article, to which I made a number of contributions. The article contains a section on the pathophysiology of the disease, which includes a paragraph on its possible genetic links. I know very little about genetics, and this section is probably a weak point in the article. If a knowledgeable person associated with this project would care to lend their expertise and give this section a once-over, making such edits as are required, I've no doubt that the article would improve as a result. The National Center for Biotechnology Information website contans some details, but this is outside my field of understanding. If this request is incorrectly placed, perhaps you could point me to a better location. Thanks, and regards, BillC 19:11, 2 November 2006 (UTC).
Negative feedback loops and feedback inhibition
[edit]There seems to be little information on negative feedback loops and feedback inhibition on Wikipedia. Negative feedback loop redirects to negative feedback and feedback inhibition redirects to feedback. Neither article provides sufficient information for a topic that is covered in high school and intro bio classes. Should there be a separate article for feedback in biology? - tameeria 21:18, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Addendum: Autoregulatory loop has been transwikied and thus has no Wikipedia page at this time. I think it should have a page though, maybe in merge with the two mentioned above. This is an important concept in enzyme and gene regulation. - tameeria 17:37, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Assistance required with Morphogenetic fields
[edit]For years now there has been a wikipedia page called morphogenetic fields, but was actually about Rupert Sheldrake's fringe ideas on Morphic fields. PZ Myers at Pharyngula noticed the problem.[1] and a swift fix was put in place by a reader. As a result, the offending article was moved to Morphogenetic field (Rupert Sheldrake) and is proposed for merge into Morphic field. There is also an almost empty article on morphogenetic fields which could use a lot of input -- and the Pharyngula blog article I have linked also has good information and links that can be used. -- Duae Quartunciae (t|c) 20:59, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Merge is apparently contentious for at least one Sheldrake supporter; who removed the tags indicating that a merger is proposed. I have replaced them; but more input from people with biological background and experience with wikipedia conventions would be very much appreciated. -- Duae Quartunciae (t|c) 05:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
