Working with new articles
[edit]Creating articles
[edit]Creating an article requires research to determine if there is significant coverage of the subject in reliable sources. See WP:Notability, including the general notability guideline, for more information. The WP:Articles for creation process is recommended for editors new to article creation.
There are several possible sources for new article subjects.
- At WP:Requested articles, people can suggest topics for new articles:
- There are automatically updated lists of LGBTQ+ people in Wikidata that do not have articles on Wikipedia: LGBQ, trans women, trans men, non-binary, intersex
- See also intersex-related redlinks, Wiki Loves Pride/Tasks, and User:Skysmith/Missing topics about LGBT.
- Category:Draft-Class LGBTQ+ studies articles contains draft articles currently in development. With expansion and additional sources, these could be put forward for WP:AFC review to become full articles.
Project-tagging
[edit]Newly created articles that deal with LGBTQ+ topics should have the WP:LGBTQ+ project banner added to the talk page. If you are unsure whether an article should be added to the project, raise it for discussion at WT:LGBTQ+.
Improving navigation
[edit]There are several ways to make it easier for readers to find new articles.
- New articles should be placed in appropriate LGBTQ categories, to group related topics together. See WP:CAT for more. WP:BLPCAT and WP:EGRS provide important guidance on categorizing articles about people.
- Navigational templates for LGBTQ topics can be added to articles, creating links between all articles with the template.
- New and expanded articles can be submitted to WP:Did you know, and if selected will be featured on the Main Page.

Assessing article quality helps WP:LGBTQ+ members to recognize excellent contributions and identify topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program, which the WikiProject uses to help automate some of the assessing process.
- When the {{WikiProject LGBTQ+ studies}} banner is added to an article without an assessment parameter specified in the {{WikiProject Banner Shell}}, the article will be placed in Category:Unassessed LGBTQ+ studies articles.
- Once an editor has assessed the article and completed the assessment parameter, the article will be added to the appropriate sub-category of Category:LGBTQ+ studies articles by quality. These categories are used to generate reports like the quality table in this section.
- The LGBTQ+ studies articles by quality log lists articles that have been assessed, reassessed, moved, or removed from the project's scope in the past week.
Improving articles
[edit]There are several ways to find articles for improvement.
- WP:LGBTQ+/Core lists articles that are of fundamental importance to WP:LGBTQ+'s mandate.
- WP:LGBTQ+/Vital lists in-scope articles that have been identified as among the most important on Wikipedia. See WP:VA for more information.
- WP:LGBTQ+/Popular lists the 500 highest traffic articles within WP:LGBT.
- There is a Report of all WP:LGBTQ+ articles with maintenance tags. Addressing these issues can help articles maintain or improve their quality rating.
- Use the quality table to pick an article from one class and work to get it to a higher class.
- Review former featured articles and former good articles that have been demoted, and work to restore their status.
If you have worked to bring an article into good shape and want feedback on further improvements, you can request a peer review.
Watching articles
[edit]You can help maintain the quality of LGBTQ+ content on Wikipedia by reviewing recent edits and joining active discussions.

- WP:LGBTQ+/Watchlist identifies articles that may attract controversy or vandalism. Anyone who comes across contentious or frequently vandalised article is welcome to add to it. Review recent changes to WP:LGBT Watchlist articles.
- See current talk page discussions for all articles in WP:LGBTQ+.
- Particpate in deletion discussions for sexuality and gender articles nominated for deletion.
