Welcome to the OKA taskforce of WikiProject Intertranswiki!
OKA (Open Knowledge Association) is a Swiss non-profit organization dedicated to improving Wikipedia and other open platforms. It provides Wikipedia training and monthly stipends to translators to full-time translators to edit Wikipedia. Because OKA editors receive a compensation, they are disclosed as paid editors, however OKA editors act independently and are free to work on any articles they like. OKA covers a large variety of languages including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.
Intertranswiki and OKA are not formally associated. However, due to the close alignment of their objectives, the IntertransWiki project agreed to host OKA as a taskforce to simplify collaboration.
Editor status and use of Afc
[edit]Since OKA translators are paid editors, according to WP:FCOI, all their contributions to English Wikipedia are considered to have a conflict of interest. As a result, they are not allowed to create new articles here directly, but must use the articles for creation (AfC) process.[a]. (Note that this is an en-wiki requirement that does not apply to other Wikipedia languages where OKA operates, e.g., Spanish and Portuguese Wikipedias). Unfortunately, the AfC review process is very slow (often 3+ months of backlog), and was not designed for translations. As a result, articles created by OKA often get stuck in the review process, with many back-and-forths.
See a list of current and former OKA editors at Wikipedia.

How to help
[edit]By improving articles submitted to Afc by OKA editors, you can help translations reach the wider public faster, and also pass helpful feedback to OKA editors based on your own experience as a translator in Wikipedia.
The list of OKA articles currently waiting for AfC review can be found here. OKA editors are instructed to add the {{OKA}} template to the talk page of their drafts only once these are submitted for AfC. If you see that an article in this list is not submitted in AfC or already published in the mainspace, you can remove the OKA template from the draft talk so that it no longer shows in the list.
A complete list of articles worked on by OKA editors at en-wiki can be found here, and via the § See also links below.
