Do you need help with your existing account?
You are in the wrong place.
You are in the wrong place.
The ACC process cannot provide assistance with accessing or editing from an existing account, nor assist with resolving any sanctions or technical restrictions (such as being blocked from editing) that are applied to an account. Information and links to common solutions and answers are listed below for you to review and try in order to resolve the particular issue involving your account. Any account requests that are submitted asking for assistance with an existing account will not be processed.
Fixes and solutions to common issues with existing accounts:
- My account has been blocked
- If your account has been blocked from editing, you may not create nor request a new account. Instead, you should appeal your block following the guide to appealing blocks. If you are unable to edit your user talk page to request an unblock of your account, you must file an unblock request using the UTRS process here.
- All policies, guidelines, and edits — as well as all sanctions, blocks, bans, and/or other restrictions that are enacted are attached and bound to the person, not to the account. Hence, creating and using a new account while your existing account is blocked, banned, or under any other kind of sanction does not lift those restrictions. Any attempts that are made in order to evade any active sanctions or restrictions that are applied to you will be considered a serious violation of policy and result in additional blocks or sanctions being applied.
- I forgot my username or password
- If you added, associated, and confirmed an email address to your Wikipedia account at any time before you lost the ability to access it, you can recover your username and password by clicking here. Enter your Wikipedia account username or the email address you associated and confirmed to your Wikipedia account, and a temporary password will be sent to the email address associated with the account. If you did not add an email address to your account, you will not be able to recover the password to your account. In this case, you can create a new account with a different username in order to resume editing.
- I want to change my username
- If you'd like to change your username, please log in to your existing account and follow the instructions that are provided here.
- I want to delete my account
- Wikipedia's files, data, web pages, interface, pages, content, design, core structure, and other components all operate and run using the MediaWiki Software, which currently does not support the ability to perform the deletion of any existing accounts. In nearly all cases, simply abandoning your existing Wikipedia account and no longer logging into or using it again is the equivalent action comparable to "deleting your account"; any information that is stored in accordance to the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy (such as your IP addresses and user agent information) are purged after three months have elapsed since their creation. If you'd like to change or remove the email address that you associated with your account, you can do so by clicking here. In certain situations, courtesy vanishing may be appropriate for users who need to leave Wikipedia permanently. This is different from performing a clean start, which involves abandoning an existing account and creating a new account in order to "start over" and edit in different areas and with new habits separate from your old account.
- I have a legitimate reason to create and use a second account
- In certain situations, Wikipedia policies allow users to create and use more than one Wikipedia account. Please review the list of legitimate situations that allow for the creation and use of more than one account before you decide or proceed to create or request a second account. If you need to request an account be created for you using the ACC process, please remember to list and specify any and all other accounts that you currently use or have used in the past, as well as include and detail the exact reason that you are requesting another account in the comment section in your account request. Failure to do this will result in your request being declined.
