Join us for the...
Emerging Technologies Edit-a-thon
- in honor of National Nanotechnology Day
- Sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
- This workshop will bring together experienced Wikipedians from across Ohio and Kentucky with scientists at NIOSH's laboratories in Cincinnati. Learn about NIOSH's research on health and safety issues of emerging technologies like nanotechnology and 3D printing from the scientists themselves. Afterwards, we'll work together to improve coverage of workplace health and safety topics on Wikipedia. Lunch will be provided courtesy of Wikimedia District of Columbia!
- NIOSH is the leading federal agency conducting research and providing guidance on the effects of engineered nanomaterials on worker health, and methods to control or eliminate exposures. NIOSH's Nanotechnology Research Center coordinates the nanotechnology-related activities of a diverse group of scientists from across NIOSH's many divisions.
- Thursday, October 19, 2017 at noon–4:30 PM
where
- NIOSH Robert A. Taft Laboratory
- 1090 Tusculum Ave, Cincinnati, OH
- All attendees needed to register in advance and bring a valid government ID in order to enter the building.
- You may also join us remotely from wherever you are!
Agenda
[edit]Because this event is geared towards experienced Wikipedians, a traditional training will not be given. Instead, we'll have a few brief topical presentations over lunch and then proceed to the editing. The following agenda is tentative.
- Lunch (starting at 12:00)
- Presentations (12:30–1:30)
- Overview of NIOSH (Dr. Paul Schulte)
- Introduction to Nanotechnology (Dr. Gary Roth)
- Introduction to Additive Printing (Dr. Gary Roth)
- NIOSH website organization (Chris Storms, Bill Bennett)
- Local Wikimedia groups (Emery Dalieso, Sydney Poore, Dominic Byrd-McDevitt)
- Editing on workplace health and safety topics (until 4:30)
Articles to work on
[edit]Your contributions to the edit-a-thon can cover any notable occupational health and safety topic. Here are some resources to help you get started.
