First Annual Southern Crossroads Wiknic
[edit]The first annual Southern Crossroads Wiknic shall be held July the twenty-fifth, A.D. (common era) 2014, held from eleven-fifteen to 3:30, post meridian; guests are free to converse and convene with each other however long they wish past three-thirty. The Wiknic may be held any city in the south outside of Atlanta or Miami, those cities that have their own wiknic. Guests bring their own entrès,drinks, and sides; and guests are also encouraged to share any of the three they may want to share.
'Who, What, Where, Why'
[edit]Who can come?
[edit]Any wikipedians and anyone else interested in Wikipedia or this Wiknic can come.
What happens?
[edit]In a city (in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, or the southeast):
you can convene or converse with your fellow Wikipedians in person;
you may collaborate with individual Wikipedians on articles or projects, or you may assist groups of Wikipedians with large articles or projects;
you are free to bring your own picnic food, water or ice or share food, drink and ice with fellow wikipedians at this wiknic, and you might like some bugspray, sunscreen, football, softball/Frisbee, beach umbrellas, or picnic blanket if the picnic will be held in a park or garden;
please bring any guests you wish to bring;
a few of us will play any board games any of us may bring (though some won't play any at all, and some may only play a few);
bring your own WALRUS group or Wikimedia Foundation chapters, and all of you are free to conduct any sort of business or group meeting you wish to conduct;
AND you are encouraged to bring your own laptop, tablet, or smartphone if you are to conduct any online business or be engaged in any online past time, and feel free to share your laptop with anyone who you want to share with.
Where will it be held
[edit]- This is a work-in-progress, so we have no location yet. Please, anyone, feel free to suggest any city other than Atlanta or Miami to host this thing. It's a good idea for Wikipedians in the south to have a chance to meet up with their fellow southern Wikipedians, and it sure can be a good idea to not have to drive to the other end of the country to visit events like this.
Why?
[edit]The South has the lowest cost of gasoline, and six major highways pass through the South with two major highways in the south only (including Texas and Oklahoma); wherefore, would not it be a bright Idea to go to a place that's within driving distance of a major airport in the south?
