Welcome to the United States National Archives WikiProject on the English Wikipedia! This is a project focused on sharing the National Archives' resources with the public and improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the National Archives. Our goal is to foster collaboration between Wikimedia projects and the National Archives in order to make cultural works more discoverable to the public. We intend to do this through the creation of related Wikipedia content and digitization of materials on Commons and Wikisource. Please make suggestions for accomplishing this goal on the talk page.

[edit]These files were all identified and uploaded by a human. Please double-check that they are correct. Any errors listed here now can be easily fixed. This is a list of the checking that is required; please strike through these when completed.
- Ensure that all NARA Ansel Adams photos are associated with an ARC identifier (e.g. 519836).
- Manually verify that all images match the images in their ARC record (see "Digital Copies" tab) to confirm that the metadata is associated with the correct photo.
- Ensure that all Ansel Adams photos listed at [1] have been uploaded to Commons.
- Make sure that all of the images are actually high-resolution.
On Commons
[edit]- Create an institutional template for the National Archives (if needed)—or possibly one specific to Ansel Adams National Park Service photos—that can associate JPEGs with their duplicate TIFFs.
- Identify the medium-resolution duplicates, and replace them on Wikimedia projects with their high-resolution versions (then delete?).
- Somehow do the same for duplicates uploaded locally to projects?
- Categorize photos according to their subjects to make them more discoverable/useful.
- Perform digital restorations.
- Nominate any qualifying photos for featured status.
On Wikipedia
[edit]- Add Ansel Adams photography from commons:Category:2011 Ansel Adams donation from U.S. National Archives to articles where appropriate. These are often good lead images, or else good in "History" sections. They can illustrate not only articles related to their subjects, but also general articles on the pictured geological and environmental phenomena, regions, plant species, peoples, architecture, and so on.
- Nominate any qualifying photos for featured status.
- Create or expand closely related articles, especially by utilizing WP:DYK or achieving upgrades in quality assessments. The following is a quick list (expand or prune as desired) of possible targets for creation or expansion:
When you have added the images to one of the articles, or expanded one of the associated articles, please note completion of the work next to the article name.

If someone would like to write about it, I can put even put you in contact with one of the members of the team for reference (though this should be at all times the independent work of a Wikipedian to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest).
