- Comment - Looks like Prokofiev was not sitting still for the camera. Not quite sure how I feel about it; for 1918, I can forgive it, but at the same time it is a major flaw in the image. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 15:43, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- (ec) Comment – I was about to say the same thing when Chris's comment went up. At small sizes this looks okay, but at higher resolutions the face is pretty badly out of focus, so much so that I think it probably fails to meet the criteria for FP. Prokofiev was photographed a lot, so I would think that it shouldn't be too hard to find a better image. But then I haven't actually tried, and the number of photos without copyright restrictions may be much smaller than I imagine. Choliamb (talk) 15:51, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- It's a series, these two looks sharper File:Sergei Prokofiev 04.jpg and File:Prokofieff (i.e. Prokofiev) LCCN2014708412.jpg, and these two are out of focus File:Prokofieff (i.e. Prokofiev) LCCN2014708410.jpg, File:Sergei Prokofiev 03.jpg
- File:Sergei Prokofiev 04.jpg is a nice image... a recrop (current crop is too close on the shoes) might be featurable — Chris Woodrich (talk) 00:36, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- I see then, I'll get started on File:Sergei Prokofiev 04.jpg and reupload the original. Withdrawing nomination. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 12:04, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Crisco 1492 and @Choliamb, thoughts on this crop? I tried following what File:Sergei Prokofiev 04.jpg did by keeping the fireplace in frame, but it may be odd having him off center. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 16:51, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- @MyCatIsAChonk: I may be wrong, but I don't think that's what Chris had in mind when he mentioned recropping. I suspect he was suggesting that you go back to the original full version of no. 4 from the Library of Congress (File:Prokofieff (i.e. Prokofiev) LCCN2014708419.tif) and make a more generous crop than the one by Materialscientist that you originally linked to (File:Sergei Prokofiev 04.jpg), which is very tight at the bottom. It's a good full-length portrait and worth preserving, rather than cutting him off at the thighs, which to me at least looks a little odd (although maybe that's because I've already seen the original). Cheers, Choliamb (talk) 21:28, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was thinking more like File:Prokofieff (i.e. Prokofiev) LCCN2014708419 Crop 2.tif (I'm a sucker for full portraits). If we were to go for a 3/4 crop, I'd definitely want more space by the elbows to give him some breathing room. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 21:40, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- That makes more sense, I'll get started soon. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 01:38, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Crisco 1492, just uploaded a restored version. Before I send it to FPC, what're your thoughts? MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 02:25, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- @MyCatIsAChonk, that looks excellent. I'd definitely support that. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 10:04, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
