Hello, and Welcome to Wikipedia. A couple of points to cover here. First, I'm afraid that your username is likely to be problematic. Our username policy provides guidance on selecting your username. In brief, usernames should not be offensive, disruptive, promotional, related to a 'real-world' group or organization, confusing, or misleading. Usernames that reflect a "real-world" group are particularly likely to be seen as promotional when used to edit articles about said group. It would likely lead to your account being blocked—not to prevent your editing, but to require your re-registering under a name that is consistent with policy. It may be easiest to simply choose a new account name which does meet our guidelines to circumvent this difficulty. If you've already made edits under this account and would like to transfer them to a new account, you can instead request a username change.

Moving on from the username concern, this particular article would be governed by the notability guidelines on companies. There is a proposal to implement a guideline specifically on schools, but this has not yet passed. The rule of thumb under the existing guideline is noting whether the company has received significant or widespread coverage in secondary sources that are reliable and independent of the school (excluding PR releases and information solely available on the school website—these sources may be used for additional information after notability has been established by secondary sources). All material must be attributable. The text as it was placed above did not provide secondary sourcing, without which the article is unlikely to survive a deletion evaluation.

If you are able to assemble necessary sources to assert notability, you may certainly create such an article, although if you are closely associated with the subject, as your current username suggests, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends that you do not create or edit the article yourself, but instead consider proposing its creation at requested articles or at a related article or relevant WikiProject. If you do choose to write the article in such a case, you'll want to be particularly careful to approach it neutrally and without undue promotion. The text above would undoubtedly be considered as overly promotional, and I suspect the article would be subjected to deletion as blatant advertising.

Finally, it's also a concern that the text above seemed to have been taken directly from the school's website, which bears a prominent copyright notice. Renting Books and Audio Books Online

We were the first web site to rent books and audio books online. Like two other online rental services in Wikipedia, Netflix and Gamefly, who rent movies and video games respectively. I would like someone to create a page about Booksfree.com. We launched our site in 2000 and have a very interesting history. We are pioneers in the online book rental service and think like Netflix and Gamefly, that we should be include in Wikipedia. I would prefer an unbiased third party right an article on us. Wikipedia, All about it

Yeah when you search something on google most search results are from wikipedia, but is the information correct? Here in wikipedia anyone can post anything. Is that really good for people? Especially children looking for information for projects? How do you know that the information posted on here is valid???? Well, it might be helpful if the article you are reading has listed sources, as a reference. Or if the article is just reccommending a certain site. I would suggest that you do not use unsourced articles. Who knows a ten year-old could be posting what you are reading??? Wikipedia is not one of the best sites for information, but maybe the best site to state opinions, expierences, or advice. If you are to do that please post that the information is based on PERSONAL views. This article I am writing for you will give you good methods to write/find information on wikipedia. New Bands Up and Coming

I'm trying to get this bands name out in to the open. The band doesn't yet have the websites and such, but that's why I'm here. I don't know if I can put the bands information on here without internet sources.

The bands name is Chi Roe. They consist of Dylan Pratt on vocals and guitar, Mathew Mueller on the bass, and Jason Mueller on the drums. They've been together for about four, almost five years, and have played in several different shows.

But as of right now, there is no other source to put on here, other then the actual band. Is it possible to still put them on here, that way people who want more information can at least come here to look?

Hi, and welcome to the drawing board. I'd have to say it depends on what the band has accomplished. We have specific inclusion criteria for bands, which can be found at WP:BAND. There are currently 12 criteria on that list, but the most commonly used are #1 (significant coverage in reliable, unconnected sources, like newspapers or magazines), #2 (charted hits) & #5 (two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie label). Articles on bands are frequently deleted almost immediately for not indicating that they are encyclopedically important (see WP:CSD#A7 for more about that). You should take a look at the list to see if the band currently qualifies.

If it does, great. The next step would be proving it. Stating that a band meets the criteria, but not demonstrate it through citing verifiable sources may lead to the band's article being put up for deletion debate. The fact that the band doesn't have a website isn't that big a deal, since their website wouldn't be usable anyway (primary sources can't be used to verify notability). What you'd be wanting to here is newspaper or magazine articles, documentation at reliable websites (Billboard; MTV; Rolling Stone; EW Online, etc), stuff like that.

I don't mean to discourage you here. You haven't got to write a perfect article on the band out the gate. :) But you will want to be sure to indicate that the band meets notability and demonstrate that to avoid wasting your time. If this band doesn't qualify now, it might well down the line. If in the meantime you'd like some experience working on music related articles, you might want to check out some of the WikiProjects, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Music, Wikipedia:WikiProject Rock music, Wikipedia:WikiProject Alternative music or Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums.

Santidev Ghosh

Hello all.

I am trying to create a page on Mr. Santidev Ghosh, born 1910, died 1999, but am having difficulty getting Wikipedia to accept the creation, because of me not being very used to this and likely because I am not doing somethign right. As suggested, I created a subpage under tonymitra/Santidev Ghosh, and have copied the same here as follows:

Santidev Ghosh, singer, actor, dancer, maestro of Rabindra Sangeet, from Santiniketan, is among the most notable persons that was linked with the Rabidnra Sangeet during the second half of Rabindranath Tagore's life. Santidev Ghosh was, as a teenager, selected by Tagore to be a music teacher in Santiniketan. He was encouraged to act and dance too in the newly formed dance dramas that Tagore was busy creating. Tagore sent Santidev to far corners of India and even to the far east such as Bali, to study and pick up folk and classical dance forms from there and bring them back to Santiniketan for use and further modification and experimentation. Some of the poems of Tagore, to which he later applied tunes and converted them into songs, were first experimented in the voice of Santidev Ghosh. One such song, "Krishnakali", to be sung more like a poem with a tune, sung in one go from start to finish without repeatation of the first two lines, was first presented to the public at Santiniketan through the voice of Santidev Ghosh. He was personally tutored by Rabindranath Tagore as well as Dinendranath Tagore. Santidev Ghosh spent much of his later working life as the head of the department of Sangeet Bhavana, th colelge of Music in Visva Bharati University, at Santiniketan. In fact, his name is already included in the Visva Bharati University page on Wikipedia, in the section "Famous alumni/academics/affiliates".

Kalimohan brought the newly born Santidev, to Santiniketan when he was merely a year old. Santidev lived there for the rest of his life, and died there at a mature age of over 89. When Rabindranath Tagore left Santiniketan for the last time, to be hospitalized in Kolkata, and knew he might not see Santiniektan any more, he wrote a letter to Santidev Ghosh, asking him never to leave Santiniketan for better salaries in the commercial world of music, but to dedicate his life to Santiniketan. Santidev Ghosh obeyed it to his last breath.

Early Life

Santidev Ghosh was born on 7 May, 1910 in a village named in the village of Bajapti near Chandpur. At that time, it was part of the British controlled India, and was named the province of East Bengal. Today, it is in Bangladesh.

His father, Kalimohan Ghosh, worked with Rabindranath Tagore from before Santidev Ghosh was born. Originally, Tagore took Kalimohan to work on rural reconstruction programs in the Tagore estates in Silaidah, today's Bangladesh. Later, Kalimohan was brought by Rabindranath Tagore to Santiniketan, to work on similar scheme of rural reconstruction at Sriniketan, adjacent to Santiniketan. Kalimohan brought his six month old son, then named Santimoy Ghosh, to Tagore. Tagore changed the middle part of his name to Santidev. Since then, the eldest son of Kalimohan was known to one and all as Santidev Ghosh.

Hi, Tonymitra, and welcome to Wikipedia. Establishing new pages can be tricky here, but you seem to be on the right path. There are a couple of issues that I see with the article that might make it difficult to establish. First, the introduction is a little confusing for people who don't know who Rabindranath Tagore was or what Rabindra Sangeet is. (I speak as one of them.) It's always good to make clear who your subject is and why he is important from the start. For instance, while you use the postage stamp release as a reference, you don't mention it within the article. This is probably a lot more valuable to establish Gosh's notability per WP:BIO than some of the background material about how Gosh never looked for better pay in another area. I don't see any mention in your article of the numerous books that this individual evidently wrote. This passage here seems significant enough to bear some mention (although context will be necessary since, again, those unfamiliar will have no idea with a Deshikottama is): "Shantidev was given many awards. He was made Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1977. He received the Sureshchandra Memorial Ananda Award in 1980. The Central Government of India conferred him the title of Padmabhusan in 1984. The same year the Vishva Bharati awarded him with its highest title: Deshikottama."

Second, we never reference other Wikipedia articles directly like that. :) The fact that Gosh is mentioned as notable in another article has no bearing on his stand alone article.

I'm going to offer a proposed revision of your opening which is completely composed on the cuff and may reflect some essential misunderstanding of who he is. The point of it is to demonstrate the best way to get the importance established in your lead. The rest of the material currently in your lead should probably be moved to a background section.

Santidev Ghosh (also Shantidev Ghosh) (May 7 1910 - December 2 1999) was an author, singer, actor, dancer and maestro of Rabindra Sangeet from Santiniketan, India. As a teenager, Ghosh was selected by poet laureate Rabindranath Tagore to be a teacher in Santiniketan and sent across India and even into Bali to further his musical education for that purpose. Tagore also encouraged Gosh to act and dance in the poet-laureate's dance dramas, and some of the poems of Tagore which he converted to songs, such as "Krishnakali", were first presented to the public by Gosh. As an adult, Gosh garnered fame as a teacher and author, producing a number of books including Rabindra-Sangit, Java O Balir Nrityagit, Rabindranather Purnanga Sikshadarse Sangit O Nritya, Rabindra Sangit Vicitra and Rabindra Nrityakala. During his life, he received many awards, including being made Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1977, receiving the Sureshchandra Memorial Ananda Award in 1980, receiving the title of Padmabhusan by the Central Government of India in 1984 and, in the same year, the title of Deshikottama, the highest award bestowed by the Visva Bharati. In 2002, India released a postage stamp on Gosh to commemorate his contribution to music. The Minister for Communication and Information Technology noted that Gosh "belonged to that class of musicians who through the ages carried forward music's unique creativity".

An opening like this will almost certainly survive challenge under WP:CSD#A7. (Note that I've tucked a couple of references in there. To make those show up in your article you need to create a reference section and then tell it to pick those up, by typing something like {{reflist}} under it. Note the curly brackets; they're required.) It would be helpful to explain what some of those honors and awards actually mean. :) It would also be helpful in the body of the article somewhere to talk a little bit more about his books and (based on a quick google search CDs.) Also helpful would be providing a few more references. Up to a certain point, my philosophy is the more the better.

I'd be happy to discuss this with you further here. The main point I'd like to make is that the opening paragraph should make it absolutely clear to people who know nothing about Indian poetry or music that this man is important. More details about his work and history are valuable to the article, but if it doesn't establish importance it may well find itself tagged and deleted because people don't understand it. --Moonriddengirl ^(talk) 12:26, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I thought, once the page is up, I would work on it gradually building it up, but I understand it is better to put enough information up front for the page to be selected. I am still not sure about your comments on how to use the {{reflist}} thing, but intend to play around with it in my subpage and see what it means. Hi, Tonymitra. Glad if it was helpful. In some ways you can call for help, by heading over to the help desk and asking your questions there. You can even ask your question on your user talk page and place {{helpme}} next to it, and a volunteer will make his or her way to you. :) As for {{reflist}}, there's more on how to use reference lists here. Specifically, you might find this section helpful. I myself like to look at examples. Take a glance at the article Juju Music. The reference section at the bottom offers two columns of footnotes. If you open the edit window to look at the source, you'll see {{reflist|2}}. "reflist" tells it to make a list of everything between <ref></ref> tags in the article. "|2" just tells it to do so in two columns. :)

As for your point about gradual creation, Wikipedia does encourage "works in progress", but it is wise to make sure even the most abbreviated articles explain what makes the subject important. Hi. Sorry for the delay. We are operating, I believe, in different time zones. :) I think it's a fine start. You need to remove the signature from the bottom (we don't sign pages; what we write, we release by GFDL for all others to work on. We do retain right to authorship credit, but that is found in the article's history. As far as gaining approval, unfortunately it doesn't work that way. There are three steps in the deletion process. The first, speedy deletion,is meant to be used for articles that are clearly inappropriate for Wikipedian in specific ways. The second, "proposed deletion" is meant for uncontroversial deletions of articles that fail to meet policies and guidelines. The third, deletion debate, is for articles the deletion of which will be controversial. Sometimes these become quite heated, and some articles are nominated more than once. I don't think your article is at risk for any of those, but I can't guarantee it, and neither can anyone else.

I'm going to tweak a little bit in your userspace. When you're ready, I think you can move it to article space. I will gladly help with this, if you like. --Moonriddengirl ^(talk) 11:32, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Fantastic! Yes, I like if you help me. You have been incredibly helpful already. I live in Vancouver, Canada, hence the timing difference. I was born in Santiniketan, the same place where Rabindranath Tagore as well as Santidev Ghosh spent most of their creative life. I noted the work you already did, to clean the page up. Fantastic. No problem. :) GFDL is the license under which we release our contributions to Wikipedia. It is somewhat similar to releasing it to public domain, in that it allows all material we write here to be used or modified in any way (commercial or otherwise), but it is different in that we retain the right to credit to our contribution. If somebody uses the material without providing that information (many just link to the article on Wikipedia, which satisfies), they are violating our copyright. I'll go and move the article into article space, and we'll see what happens. It should not be speedily deleted. If by chance anyone chooses to nominate it for deletion by the other methods, you will have a couple of days to address it. I'll be watching the article for a while, so I'll be able to contribute to any discussions about that. But if it is nominated, there is a certain protocol for discussing it. Thanks again, --Moonriddengirl. Yes, I want to talk about it some more. First, I am amazed at the amount of time you spent on this page, with what must be inscrutable information about an inscrutable place with inscrutable cultural references.

I have several questions, looking forward to improving that page, as well as gather more information for additional pages on related topics, mostly going back to the same place and the same time period (last century - eastern part of India - Bengali Renaissance and the reform movement within the Indian socieity).

1. I did not figure out how you "moved" the article out of my subpage to the main section. I would have created a new page and copy/pasted the information from my sub page.

2. Another question that comes to mind immediately, is, if I want to put supporting reference on some of the information up there on the page on Santidev Ghosh, but the supporting info in not on line, but taken off a printed book, what is the best way to do that ?

I don't know if you will be reading this part. I hope you do. But, if I should take this conversation someplace else, please tell me where.

A last footnote - the people of Santiniketan, and of the University there (Visva Bharati University) and the attached school Patha Bhavana did not have much of an internet access in the past, and are not savvy enough to engage in Wikipedia. As a result, a lot of material on Wikipedia which relate to their rich cultural history is ill-represented on Wikipedia. Some of them are closely watching what is happening to the Santidev Ghosh page. It is my hope that we should be, gradually, get them interested to actively participate, and learn the ropes on how to be good contributors to Wikipedia. For now, they are curious to see how my efforts come out. This very topic is scheduled to be discussed, among other things, in a public meeting in Santiniketan within the next week. I wont be able to attend, but learn the views that come out of it, since it would be recorded.

There is, however, a problem in that you have an evident conflict of interest, based on your username. Our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends that contributors who are closely associated with the subject not create or edit an article on that subject themselves, but instead consider proposing its creation at requested articles or at a related article or relevant WikiProject. For instance, if either of the individuals above meet notability guidelines for people and have articles, you may wish to propose at the talk page of one of them. If you choose to write the article in spite of that strong recommendation that you not, you'll want to be particularly careful to approach it neutrally and without undue promotion. Some of the language in the current example would be problematic. We don't refer to companies as "innovative" unless we are quoting a reliable reviewer. Even if it is not promotional, it may still be tagged with a warning to Wikipedia's readers that its creator has a conflict of interest and may not be neutral through the use of template {{COI}} or {{COI2}}. It is also quite possible that concerns over your conflict of interest will lead to your account under that username being blocked, as it is against our username policy for a username to duplicate a company name, particularly if it is used to promote that company.

Luna Trick

Luna Trick is the creative brainchild of English multi-Instrumentalist, Daniel Staniforth. Classically trained as a Cellist, Staniforth crafts an array of songs styles - ranging from darkwave, electronica, space-funk, ethereal, to more widely experimental. His hybridized guitar style renders many different sonic colors, which are further enhanced by his willingness to explore various instrumentations. Otherwise, this individual would be judged for inclusion under the criteria set forth for musicians and ensembles. He would not qualify under album releases and the text above would probably be deleted according to WP:CSD#A7, as a non-notable musician. In order to establish an article about this person on Wikipedia, you will need to be able to verify that he meets one of the other criteria set out there, such as widespread & significant coverage in secondary sources. The language is a little problematic in that we're not supposed to speculate about a subject's "willingness" to do something, although we can report that if a reliable secondary source has declared it. Otherwise, you've done a good job of avoiding promotional language. The article might still be regarded as problematic there because of your interest in the article.

This one hints that there may be notability, provided that any of these projects can be documented as meeting the criteria at WP:MUSIC. Phrases like "rather bizarre and mind-boggling" are still problematic with regards to neutrality and suggest original research (which is a catch-all phrase on Wikipedia for many different types of information that can't be attributed to reliable sources.) Career

RKG started with Ryan Morris, Gabe Lay, and Kyle Moore. Sadly, Kyle Moore was kicked out and the reason is unknown. Today, Ethan Strange, a.k.a Guelliermo, took the job as a performer and a camera man with good experience. They are creating the new series on Youtubecalled Mountain Doom

The group began in October of 2007 with their first clip of RKG INTRO. Later, they created the series Coke Zero, along with RKG Sport Skills, and their epic boriestas.

A few months later, Ethan Strange came as a guitarist on Creepy Complextion and RKG Guitar Battle. Ethan Strange is supposed to be in the new series of Mountain Doom.

Also coming near the same time as "Mountain Doom", the series called Halo Cops.

I get 7660 hits for "particle technology" on Google Scholar, including whole books on the topic. Looks good. Also, I don't think an article named "Particle technology" was ever deleted via a deletion discussion. I don't see any deletion discussion named "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Particle technology". The deletion log suggests that such a page was deleted once, but apparently not via a deletion discussion; it was deleted apparently because it only contained one word. The rule of thumb here is noting whether the company has received significant or widespread coverage in secondary sources that are reliable and independent of the company (excluding company PR releases and information solely available on the company website—these sources may be used for additional information after notability has been established by secondary sources). All material must be attributable.

One problem with both of those versions is that there is nothing in either to indicate that the company is of encyclopedic significance or importance. That could make it subject to speedy deletion under criterion WP:CSD#A7. In creating a new article, you need to set out clearly why this subject should have an article. When doing that with companies, though, you have to guard against going too far in setting out the importance of the company. If you seem to be unduly promotional, the article might instead by tagged for deletion as WP:CSD#G11, advertising.

If on consideration you think the company meets WP:CORP and if you are able to assert significance, you'd probably want to go something closer to the first option, at least to begin with. However, there's plenty of room for more information in the opening paragraph. You could mention where they are headquartered and when they were founded, for instance. Check out Wikipedia:Companies, corporations and economic information for an "infobox" that you might use. You might take a look at another independent development company, like Remedy Entertainment, for some ideas.

There are specific criteria listed in that notability guideline as to what makes a musician notable enough for an article. The usual rule of thumb is number of releases on notable labels. Dollar Man doesn't seem yet to qualify there (two albums is the threshold), but he may qualify for others, particularly if he has widespread media coverage. An article of this sort would also be covered by Wikipedia's guidelines on "biographies of living persons", which in part urges editors to be extremely careful not to include any information that isn't sourced, even if it's true, and also reminds us that biographies particularly must be written from a neutral point of view.

If you are able to assemble necessary sources and Dollar Man meets the notability requirements, you may choose to create the article yourself, although if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline urges great caution, particularly with neutrality and not adding information you know to be true but cannot verify. It is strongly recommended that you do not edit an article on a subject with which you have a conflict of interest but instead consider proposing its creation at requested articles or at a related article or relevant WikiProject.

That sounds like it could be an interesting article, if you can verify that the topic is of encyclopedic notability by demonstrating widespread coverage in secondary sources that are reliable and independent of the companies that release such records themselves (this would exclude company PR releases and information solely available on copyleft record label websites—these sources may be used for additional information after notability has been established by secondary sources). All articles on Wikipedia are supposed to be written neutrally, but you'd probably want to be particularly careful in doing so here to avoid the appearance of undue promotion. You'll also need to be sure that the current copyleft record labels you're interested in writing about are demonstrably notable enough for inclusion within the article. As part of an article, they don't have to meet notability guidelines for companies by themselves, but I think there is a chance that over emphasis on the companies as opposed to the concept may lead to the article being seen as advertisement, which can lead to speedy deletion.

You might also want to consider creating a section on the topic rather than the article, in which case Copyleft art might be a good place to begin. This is particularly useful if there's not a lot of information currently available. If the section grows large enough, it can be divided out as described at Wikipedia:Summary style. (Note that the current article at Copyleft art does not have any sourcing, unfortunately. If you do choose to add, you should provide sources for the new information, because without sourcing any information is subject to removal from Wikipedia. Sometimes it takes a while. :))
