This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Football (soccer). It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Football|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Football (soccer). For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Sports.

Fails WP:SPORTCRIT and WP:GNG. First, a WP:BEFORE found no significant and independent coverage, only databases, namesakes and WP:PASSING mentions such as this, this and the ABC piece already in the article (which mentions him in a match lineup). Second, the international appearance for Paraguay seems false. According to NFT, the only Pérez who played that match was Hernán Pérez, a much more merited player, and think about it: why would Héctor Pérez represent Paraguay in 2011 when he has not been verified as having a club that year, playing once in 2010? Notability of this topic has not changed since the last AFD 6-7 months ago. It still falls foul of WP:NOTTVGUIDE, and doesn't meet WP:LISTN or WP:GNG. I would support WP:SALTing this to prevent another re-creation. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:54, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

- Delete as per nom. Not deemed to have standalone notability here (straight lift from itwiki which can set their own inclusion standards) and already deleted recently only to re-appear due to the page title being 'freed'. Crowsus (talk) 12:55, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment I think it's important to note that it's not a direct recreation. There was a request for speedy deletion which was denied by Asilvering saying
decline WP:G4, text greatly expanded from deleted version, no longer just a list, would need new discussion
. Therefore the recreation isn't due to the page title being 'freed', but rather the creator would seem to think the expansion is enough for it to be notable enough to stand currently (also see what Claudio Fernag wrote on the talk page:This page should not be speedily deleted because the article is no substantially identical to the deleted version. The article is no longer just a list of broadcasters like when it was deleted, a context has been added that gives it notability, and verifiable and reliable sources were also included. The same happened with the article List of La Liga broadcasters, which at first was just a table with a list of broadcasters. It was nominated for deletion, more information was added to give it more notability and it was finally kept
). --SuperJew (talk) 13:36, 21 November 2024 (UTC)- Fair enough, but to be fair I couldn't see the original version for comparison. Crowsus (talk) 07:25, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

- Keep: but rename to "Serie A in media", "Serie A broadcasting", "Serie A on television" or similar, not opposed to Draftify until quality concerns are met. Strongly opposed to salting. The article is not in a great state and is clearly based on / inspired by the it:wiki article which is IMO in need of some editing to trim it down. Nonetheless, the notability is clearly there, and this should be the "expansion/detailed article" corresponding to the TV rights section of the Serie A article. There is repeated coverage of TV rights negotiations, impacts on viewers and commentary on current status of TV rights in the main Italian newspapers of record (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...). There is more specialized work to analyze the landscape in niche publications / sources (which should naturally be reviewed to ensure they pass RS), such as 6, 7 (also independently published as a book, which may be better for referencing), 8, 9, 10 (appears to be a very good source, published by Taylor & Francis), 11... Research papers on this topic also exist, however I don't know if they meet our quality requirements: 12 and 13 published when Serie A TV rights were being renewed in 2005, 14, 15, 16... As well as theses (again, to check if RS is met): 17, 18. Shazback (talk) 17:18, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

- They don't look like WP:SUSTAINED coverage to me. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:49, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- There are sources already in the article that span 20 years of coverage. SportingFlyer T·C 20:25, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- What would be sufficient for WP:SUSTAINED? In 1995, half-page on page 4 of La Stampa regarding the TV rights sales of Serie A and B La Stampa 31 Oct. 1995 p.4, 2010 editorial article and analysis in La Repubblica on how TV rights sales affect the league to optimize commercial revenues La Repubblica 3 Mar. 2010 online, unknown if published... See the links above in addition... What type of sources would satisfy this aspect of the notability guideline? Shazback (talk) 20:37, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

Fails WP:GNG, Wikipedia is not a list of every structure to have ever existed. Stadiums are split off from clubs/cities when they are subjects of discussion as primary theme. Even while searching for his name in Japanese, I didn't find any significant coverage. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 11:34, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep - So, Umemura didn’t play a lot of soccer due to some serious injuries, but there is an absolute ton of extensive independent coverage both of the injuries cutting his career short, but also of his after football career as the assistant abbot of a Buddhist temple belonging to his wife’s family. I’ve gone ahead and edited the article with all the extra information, sources and line citations. It’s all in Japanese (naturally), but you should be able to use google translate to check it if you are so inclined. I only ended up using like 6-7 of the articles, but there are at least another dozen or so readily apparent via a basic google search of his name (in kanji), and I can only guess many more if I used more precise search terms. With all these in-depth and independent sources, there is no way that this article does not meet general notability, and since, as @Clariniie points out, there is no seperate NFOOTBALL, this is as clear a keep as I’ve come across in a while. Ping to @GiantSnowman as requested. Absurdum4242 (talk) 17:51, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment To add, I can’t find evidence of a prior AfD (I’m guessing just because I don’t know where to look, having only been here 3 months still), but if it was 10 years ago that would have been just after that first injury, so it makes sense it failed because at that stage he’d still played no professional games yet, and had not transformed himself into a monk, so coverage would have been minimum simple due to “too soon”. - They’re all in the article now, I added them all as sources / line citations… just click and translate via google translate. Some shorter articles, but some long articles too, a couple in the 3-5 page range. Here’s the kanji for his name though 梅村 晴貴 - cut and past that into google and you’ll get the full basic search for his name.

- Ok, so just the basics since I’m a bit busy this afternoon, but here’s that summary. Source order is as listed on the article.
- Sources 2 and 4 - different pages from a 3 page article in a sports magazine on Umemura’s youth career, move to the professionals, and the injury that derailed his career.
- Source 3 - single page article in the Shizuoka Shinbun Newspaper talking about Umemura’s participation in the SBS Cup International Youth Soccer tournament during his youth career.
- Source 5 - short announcement, in an online soccer site, published by Kodansha, Japan’s largest publisher, announcing his professional signing.
- Source 6 - short announcement, in same online site as source 5, announcing his injury and upcoming surgery.
- Source 8 - 4 page article in a sports magazine talking about Umemura’s move from professional player, to team staff, to priest, due to the request from his wife’s family to take over their temple, and about his new role in that temple.
- Source 9 - 1 page article in same online site as 5 and 6, talking about transition from player, to team staff, and then his two and a half years of training to gain his priest’s license. Also an announcement that he will be involved in a 15th anniversary match for the Toyama team, that I haven’t tracked down yet, as this article talks about it in the future tense.
- Hope that helps. Absurdum4242 (talk) 04:20, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Creator claims such small stadiums are inherently notable; I don't think that's true at all. Article was moved back into draft space by User:Mccapra, and creator moved it back to main space twice. Their argument? "The subject is encyclopedic, the article is well-sourced, and there is nothing in it beyond what is present in the Polish-language article." But the first thing is untrue and certainly questionable, the second is ridiculous (the link is to a user-generated database of stadiums), and the first is irrelevant on the English wiki. Drmies (talk) 14:55, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am in favor of keeping the article. Tarnobrzeg Municipal Stadium may not stand out significantly from other stadiums, but it represents a typical example of local sports infrastructure, much like other stadiums already included in the encyclopedia. To provide context, I reviewed two randomly selected stadiums—Stjörnuvöllur and Akranesvöllur—and found them similarly modest in scale. Deleting Tarnobrzeg Municipal Stadium based on the argument presented here could set a precedent for removing numerous comparable entries, which doesn’t align with our established approach to such topics. While I understand the concerns raised, I believe the article is well-sourced and falls within the scope of what we consider encyclopedic. Paradygmaty (talk) 15:03, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Football and Poland. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 15:07, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep stadiums are generally notable. The article only has one source, though, that doesn't help with GNG, so we have to do a source search, not a blanket AfD. And what we see is that the stadium has been covered in secondary sources: [17] [18] (looks like the same story) [19] [20] (about hooligans who vandalized it.) Now those may not be a clear GNG pass, but they are all from the past month. It should be relatively easy to write a decent little article about this. SportingFlyer T·C 16:22, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Again we're missing the point here - since the article was sent to AfD, there's been some expansion with some sources which I think are fine (some don't count like transfermarkt), but more importantly there's at least one site - stadiony.pl - which includes news about the stadium back to 2009, and while some of it is self published others appear to be copies of articles published about the stadium. Polish football is generally well documented and a search of "Stadion Siarki Tarnobrzeg" brings up even more material which clearly clears GNG. There's news going back to 2013 for instance [21]. SportingFlyer T·C 07:16, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
*Delete all sports stadiums are not notable, and small local stadiums generally aren’t. There is nothing architecturally, historically or culturally distinctive about this one as far as I can see. Most towns have a stadium like this, just like they have a police station and a post office. Mccapra (talk) 16:54, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- The test isn't about whether they are "architecturally, historically or culturally distinctive." The test is whether they've been covered in secondary sources, and this one clearly has. SportingFlyer T·C 17:13, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with SportingFlyer – notability is based on coverage in reliable secondary sources, not just architectural or cultural significance. I’ve also expanded the article to provide more context, which supports its notability. Paradygmaty (talk) 17:18, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

- Delete, or maybe better merge into Siarka Tarnobrzeg. Per WP:NSTADIUM, stadiums are not generally notable and has to meet WP:GNG criteria. WP:GNG says that "significant coverage is not a guarantee that a subject merits its own article". Currently used sources do not demonstrate notability, and the vandalism articles are not even "significant coverage". The vandalism is not a historical event and Wikipedia is not a newspaper to collect such events of local importance. So I suggest deleting this paragraph and moving the rest to the club as a section, which should satisfy everyone involved. FromCzech (talk) 10:01, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

- Comment: I maintain my stance for KEEP, especially since I have updated the article to include the fact that this stadium hosted Siarka Tarnobrzeg during their three seasons in the top Polish league. This clearly indicates that it is not just an insignificant stadium. Surely, we wouldn't delete the stadium of an Ekstraklasa club – following that logic, we should also consider removing Františka Kloze Stadium (in Czechia), which is also "just a building." I kindly ask you to reconsider your position. Paradygmaty (talk) 16:09, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

His playing career is/was mostly convinced to lower leagues and lasts/lasted a total of 920 minutes so far. I have searched his name in conjunction with *any club he has played for* and "site:.sk", but couldn't find any WP:SIRS. All I found are passing mentions in match reports (e.g. Sport Aktuality, SME, Teraz) and squad list U15 call-up as well as paywalled rumor. Not to be confused with the more notable Michael Krmenčík, who was also born in 1993 but has a different nationality. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 14:48, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

- Instead of deletion, why can't merging it with the Major Indoor Soccer League (1978–1992) on television be considered as an alternative option to having an stand-alone article for the list of MISL broadcasters? - Comment: Looking at the article's sources, they seem to be WP:ROUTINE mentions that something happened (e.g., YouTube videos which are just copies of the broadcast of a game, news articles reporting the match's results and participants), making this seem like citation overkill. His soccer career was not notable at all, having only played 172 minutes in Revolution, as well as a friendly goal that can't be the basis of a Wikipedia article. I don't think the local news source cuts it GNG-wise, as it is an everyday piece of coverage with the majority being a Q&A interview. It would take much more making this meet WP:SPORTCRIT and WP:GNG.
