I am not Zerbu, but since there is no reply, @HouseBlaster can I do it? ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 11:13, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've been doing handfuls of them every so often (there's a lot to go through, and I need to make sure I don't accidentally put one in the wrong category) but any help is appreciated. Zerbu 💬 13:20, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 October 10#Category:Film and television memes
Purge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 21:58, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just came across this randomly, but I could do this one within the next few days. However, just for clarification, because it isn't entirely clear for me from the discussion/close how strict the purge should be: It reads to me like we only keep existing articles (so excl. redirects) where the subject is a meme or memes (related to or stemming from film and television, incl. web series), which means the following would be removed: a) redirects (for specific memes or any other subject, but excl. soft redirects, e.g., to Wikiquote) and b) articles about films, tv shows or any other subject that is not a meme (regardless of whether or not a meme is associated with the subject and sourced content about a meme is in it). Have I got that right? Felida97 (talk) 23:14, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Felida97, and thank you so much for volunteering to take this one on! The closure is requesting that the category only contain articles which are defined by being memes. So redirects from specific memes to the film/movie they come from should remain in the category. What should be removed is all articles about films/TV shows/etc. which happen to have memes. If a hypothetical television show is in and of itself a meme, that would belong in the category, but I do not think there is anything in the category which meets that description. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:33, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HouseBlaster: Ok, no problem, sounds good! I wasn't sure about the redirects, because the nominator had said that "redirects aren't helpful either because no sources can be applied to them", and I do see their point (or at least the issue I believe they were referring to; see, e.g., Is mayonnaise an instrument?, which redirects to a section/article without any indication that this is a meme or that it comes from that TV episode), but you probably meant that the meme must be mentioned in the film/TV show article in order to keep the redirect (e.g., Baneposting), right? Felida97 (talk) 03:43, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have it exactly correct, Felida97 :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 19:37, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HouseBlaster: I think I'm done with this one. It took it a bit longer than expected because I decided I didn't want to just remove all those film and TV articles and tried keep/add as many memes as possible (by adding memes with sources to targets of unsourced meme redirects or creating/finding redirects for memes mentioned in the film/TV articles). Two category entries I would ask you to take a look at, because I'm not 100% sure if they should be removed: Barbenheimer and We Are Number One (I've removed all other non-redirects that are not about a meme, but Barbenheimer may be considered a meme, and the song "We Are Number One" and its notability is closely associated with its Internet popularity that I'm just not sure).
Also, the category seems to be filled with non-fitting entries somewhat regularly (e.g., in the past week, an IP added a few films to it [see one, two, three], and an editor that even participated in the discussion about this category added a few redirects for supposed memes about which nothing was in the target [see Baby knife, Marvel Jesus, I am Marvel Jesus]), so I can only say that it's purged at this very moment (with 69-71 pages) and won't be able to keep it clean going forward. Also, I believe the parent catgegory Category:Internet memes has the same problem as the purged category, just worse, I imagine (when I removed the film and television memes category, I also always removed any other meme categories, but that obv didn't significantly change the state of these other categories). Felida97 (talk) 18:31, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Felida97: So generally we consider it a job done once the category has been purged. I have added a note to the category which should hopefully help at little. I would remove Barbenheimer (it described as having prompted a comedic response from Internet users, including memes, which is not being a meme itself). I would keep We Are Number One, because its status as a meme is central to the reason it is notable. It is also described as bec[o]me common among internet memes, implying that it is one. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:42, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HouseBlaster: Yes, of course, sorry; thanks for your input on the two articles (I've removed Barbenheimer); now it's actually done. Also thanks for adding the note, I had the same idea (although I'm not sure many people that add the category to the wrong kind of article will come across it). Felida97 (talk) 01:01, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Felida97: No need to apologize! Thank you for your hard work :) If you want to do the honors of removing this listing from the page, be my guest.
