Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic
Programming language(s): Automator
Source code available: No, but the primary API action I'm taking is listed at LourdesBot
Function overview: forcelinkupdates WP:TFA Title once every day
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): Duplicates the currently inactive User:Joe's Null Bot for one page
Edit period(s): Daily once
Estimated number of pages affected: 1
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): No
Function details: One of the scripts User:Lourdes/TFAhistorylink.js (a script to assist FA regulars in tracking recent changes to today's featured article), requires the page WP:TFA Title to undergo either a forcelinkupdate or a null edit every day once, after the WP:TFA has been updated (which is done at midnight UTC). I had requested Joe Decker to include this as a task at User:Joe's Null Bot. He said the bot is inactive, and if and when it is up, he would be okay doing that. I'm not sure when his bot would be up. I had gone to Anomie for assistance. He suggested the API solution; Xaosflux also discussed this issue with me. And thereon, am requesting this bot to be approved. I will discontinue this bot the day Joe gets his bot up and running, or if any other bot doing the same stuff for other pages includes this page too. The bot is an Automator work flow process loaded on my laptop and is slated to be executed once every day. The function of this bot would be to simply forcelinkupdate WP:TFA Title every day. The total number of edits from this bot account will be zero after BAG's approval. The total number of pages edited will be one. Because this would be an automatic, repetitive task being undertaken by an automated tool without my direct active supervision, I am requesting the approval here. This is my first bot request so do assist me if I've filled in the blanks wrongly or something is out of place in this request. Thanks. (p.s: The bot is not exclusion compliant as it is limited to one page edits)

[edit]- OK, so this account will not be making any revisions or logged actions correct? — xaosflux Talk 13:37, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- That's right. Lourdes 04:54, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- @Lourdes: Please use your main account to make any edits unrelated to bot tasks, including edits to your bot's userpage. Thanks. ~ Rob13Talk 08:09, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- BU Rob13 sure. The bot account has only made setting up edits to the bot user page. It's not slated to make any other edits. Lourdes 09:43, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

- Approved for trial (7 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Let us know how it goes. This bot will not require a bot flag for this task. — xaosflux Talk 13:30, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks. Will do. Lourdes 13:35, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Xaosflux hello. The trial went off well. The only issue I got was when I forgot to reconnect the laptop to the mains and the battery ran out; the automator didn't launch at the scheduled time as the laptop was off. And when the laptop was switched on again, the automator didn't/doesn't finish any unfinished task of the day if it's already missed the scheduled time. I worked around that by fixing two 12 hour update schedules. Thanks. Lourdes 10:25, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Marking Trial complete. procedurally. ~ Rob13Talk 10:40, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Lourdes I'm marking this approved, but will not be approving a "bot flag" (will not impact you task). If you want to run something like this long-term you would need to move it to a server. — xaosflux Talk 12:37, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved. Task approved, no bot flag needed. — xaosflux Talk 12:37, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
