On the topic of 唼

Besides the rather apocryphal method of information gathering a la "I know that from a guy who told a guy I know" (also known as hearsay), do check the Wiktionary page on the offending hanzi/kanji. (I do think it's a hanzi, rather than a kanji in common use.) The "gobbling sound made by ducks" is, of course, impossible to render succinctly in English, but some sort of reference to feeding serves the purpose. ‹кндмцяд› ж «тдгк» 10:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Redirect 'fixing'

Re this edit, you may wish to read Wikipedia:Redirects#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken. And that's before we even get onto the question of why the article is currently at a TYPOGRAPHIC CAPS location rather than a sensible qualifier... --zippedmartin 13:59, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

First of all, that's not a policy but a guideline, the reasoning behind which is that avoiding redirects by editing taxes the servers more. However, what if my reasoning is to bring consistency to the pages? It becomes completely unrelated to the guideline.

Regarding the other comment, the move from Bleach (manga) to BLEACH was indeed controversial (and I did not support it until the move was made), but in the end the consensus was to keep BLEACH, since it is spelled BLEACH everywhere, and was intended to be spelled BLEACH with all-caps, by the author. I think this may be the case with some other series as well, but Wikipedia policy does not say that all-caps are not allowed where they are warranted. However, it does clearly state that naming consistency must exist, and this is one of the reasons I changed many Bleach links to BLEACH.

Why confrontational? I didn't say it was a policy that you could be banned for ignoring, I said you might wish to read it. An edit for which the only purpose is changing an internal link target is just a bit pointless.

On issue #2, it's confusing typography with spelling, case comes under the former. In fact, you'll often see roman lettering written in all caps in Japanese text, this is largely because all three of their scripts are 'caseless', and it keeps the height of the line consistent. --zippedmartin 21:05, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you just signed up on our Wikipedia - I don't suppose you or someone else would be interested in writing a stub on the Hebrew Wikipedia on the language? Seeing you sign up reminded me that I had requested it on the Hebrew Wikipedia back in December, and though they said they would write it, it seems to have been forgotten. I corrected the article; one part that I changed from urbo di Israel to urbo en Israel wasn't incorrect to start, just a more usual wording. City of Israel vs. city in Israel. I guess I'll be seeing you on a few other boards as well - most Idists post on Yahoo! groups, on groups like idolisto, idoespanyol, idocatalaoccitan, etc. Also, the most comprehensive course in English is here in case you haven't come across it yet. One more thing

Here is one of the best places to read Ido that you are sure is correct; these are small news stories written every day or two by a French guy named Jean Martignon who is also the editor of the magazine Internaciona Kayereto. Here is where the archives are. There's also the magazine Adavane! which is published every two months, and the next one comes out in two days, so maybe print out one of those if you have any time to read when you're away on duty. Efrat/a

Hi Ynhockey,

On Hebrew Wikipedia, the name used is Efrat (אפרת), and the municipality's website (despite its URL, which is probably gov't issued and subject to the same treatment as CBS reports and intercity roadsigns) identifies it as Efrat. I'd like to suggest that we move it to some form of Efrat (either the main page, or in leiu of its occupation by the disambig, then "Efrat (municipality)" or something like that). While Efrata is certainly a correct name, I think that as a self-identifying entity, the municipality's wishes to be identified a certain way, Efrat, should be deferred to. Additionally, while it's not directly pertinent for this issue, the guidelines at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Nutshell: Generally, article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature.) seems to favor Efrat (reinforced by the results of a Google search).

In terms of the disambig, I apologize for moving prematurely - I didn't realize that the move would take so long. However, I believe that most people searching for Efrat would want the settlement, and not the biblical place or other places named after it. If the Ephrath page was standardised to a spelling of Efrat, then perhaps they would have equal demand and Efrat would be a disambig, but in the meantime, perhaps we should just have an {Otheruses} tag on Efrat.

Popular Russian singers

Please stop categorizing all Russian singers as pop singers (e.g. Psoy Korolenko, Nikolai Fomenko). Russian pop is a well-definted genre and many (probably most) Russian singers do not fall under it. I am sorry if I have offended against some special definition of 'Russian pop'. That was not my intention. If that is your field I suggest you go ahead and make a specific category(ies). I would merely point out that categorizing all popular artists simply as 'Russian singers' is unhelpful to readers. Please go ahead and categorize them as you think is appropriate. Actually you offended in the fact that you put some good singers in the same category as pop ;) but anyway, not all Russian singers are easy to categorize. For example, Psoy Korolenko writes and performs his own songs, but does not necessarily write the music, and is too far from the Russian bard 'tradition' to call him a bard anyway. Or for instance, Maxim Galkin mostly sings parodies, but he has also sung some regular songs with Alla Pugacheva, so I guess he can be put into 'pop singers' and 'parody singers' at the same time, but that still does not encompass what Galkin does in singing (he basically sings whatever the studios tell him). The category Russian singers isn't very large (yet) anyway, so I don't think it's a problem yet. -- Ynhockey ^(Talk) 09:46, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

True, but look at it this way. They need changed to one of the two regardless, and the (manga) designation seems to be standard for other series. Furthermore, since we would have to change them anyway, if I start changing them now (especially the ones in the templates, etc.) when I have the free time, even if it's only a 50% chance of being right that means I have a 50% chance of having saved the rest of you a lot of work. He says something like "...after receiving Benihiko and Tenken's attack..." or something like that. If you have the RAW you can confirm. Also, if you search other official sources, you will see that Tenken is aways called like this.

Can you explain why you wasted time on this pervasive and misleading change? There is a master category called Category:Roads by country where dozens of other countries in the world are represented by 'roads of ...' except Israel thanks to you. Only Israel has a 'highways of Israel' subcat represented there, and in this sub cat are roads that are not even highways. If you are not sure about geographical cats, I suggest you go to the main cats of English-language countries and see how it's done there. I usually use the US or Canada. Roads of Canada is the super-cat, underneath that are roads by provinces or national highways, and under the roads by province cats you'll find subcats for highways, roads, and streets.

The issue is not whether it should be named Highways in Israel or Roads in Israel, it's whether we need 2 separate categories. Clearly we do not, there aren't even that many notable roads in Israel, and there is no precedent for 2 separate categories. That is why I merged the categories into one. If you feel Roads in Israel is a more appropriate name for the new (merged) category, propose it on CfD (a move proposal).
