Information icon Hello, I'm Contributor321. I noticed that you made a change to an article, List of Harvard University people, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Billy Ruane

[edit]

Hello, and thanks for your note on my talk page about Billy Ruane. I understand your frustration. Here is the situation: Several years ago there was a community discussion about that article. The discussion can be seen here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Billy Ruane. The conclusion was that he as an individual does not meet Wikipedia's requirements for an article, which can be found at WP:GNG and WP:BIO - but that his name should be kept in the encyclopedia as a redirect to The Middle East (nightclub). That was done, and that was the situation until this month, when you started expanding the redirect into an article. But several reviewers concluded that your article does not meet WP:GNG or WP:BIO and did not improve on the original article, so they restored the redirect. Looking at your version, I agree with them. It contains lots of unsourced assertions and rumors about people; that violates Wikipedia's guideline for biographies. You provided a few references but they do not meet our requirement for significant coverage from independent reliable sources. I am sure you meant well, but Wikipedia is an international encyclopedia and has to have standards for what kind of articles get included here.

I see that you are what we call a single purpose account, meaning that everything you have done here at Wikipedia relates to Mr. Ruane. I'm sorry to have to stop you from doing that, but Wikipedia has standards, and this subject does not meet them. If you continued to restore your article, you could have been blocked from editing for edit warring. We always prefer not to block someone if it can be avoided. So at the request of another editor, I fixed the redirect page so that you can't expand it any more. Please accept this and let it go. --MelanieN (talk) 01:17, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
