I love messages! Even if you just want to say hi, I'd love to hear from you. If it's not apparent enough from my username that I love classical music...feel free to talk over Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, ETC, and I'll be very pleased to chat with you about it. Click here to post a new message. I'll always reply on your talk page, unless you don't have a username, so unless you want to have to keep checking back here, it would be a good idea to sign your messages using four tildes (~~~~). Please add new comments at the bottom with a relevant message heading. I archive every 30 message headings...archived talk can be found at the right. And thanks for talking to me!

Thanks to Sango for the design of the archive table, etc. and to Tito for the beautiful colors of this and my userpage. Thanks, guys!

Update: If you are waiting for a reply from me and it's been more than a month, please leave another note, because it's extremely likely that I forgot to reply. Thanks!--ViolinGirl 00:46, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Merry Christmas and a barnstar

Hi there ViolinGirl. I have decided to award you this barnstar for being a kind, friendly, enthusiastic, and great editor. Although you do not know me, I have seen you around and am most impressed by what you have done for this site. Would you be at all interested in becoming an admin early February (so that you would have been here 3 months)? If not, no worries. Have a Merry Christmas! P.S. What is your favourite classical violin piece? All the best Banes 18:41, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

I, Banes, do hereby award ViolinGirl this original barnstar for just being an all-round great wikipedian. Banes 18:41, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
Wow, ok, your violin is a little above mine.... In my opinion, I would quite happily make you an admin right now, but there are those (and I mean no offence to them) who oppose nominations if the nominee has been here for less than 3 months. You are doing a good job of making yourself well known. Just by being kind and helpful (and having 1300 edits in a month or so) you become well known. I have seen you around outside of vandal matters, and you are doing a great job! So, I would suggest you keep doing what you are doing (do you participate in AFD?) and I cannot see how anyone could have a valid reason to oppose you. But sadly, there is the 3 month threshold... Thank you, in turn, for your kind words. Banes 19:02, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Just out of interest, why do you mark all of your edits as minor? See you around wikipedia! Again, Merry Christmas (must get off the computer now...) Banes 19:14, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

Merry Christmas to you, too!

Again, thanks for caring! Thus far, you're the only person to ever post any messages on my board, and I appreciate it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, and thanks again for being a great Wikipedian (I'd give you an award, too, but I don't know how :).

A Bach Christmas

I wish you a Brandenberg Concerto Christmas and a Cantata and Fugue in D minor New Year. Those are what would make me happy - hopefully, they would please you too. Denni 01:42, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the christmas message - very welcoming.

Have a happy new year.

Bach's Goldberg

Hi, and Merry Christmas. Great to see people actually read my page and get something of value from it. I have bumbled my way thru some of the variations, but the rest are far beyond me, I'm afraid. And I'd be no help to you with the ornamentation, either, I'm afraid. My last formal lesson was when I was about 17 (I'm 55 now), and I've kept up playing purely for my own enjoyment (and the occasional performance). I've probably learnt millions of bad habits (and created a few unique ones), but I think I still make a fair fist of pieces within my capacity. But as for musicological advice, I'd be the last person you should ask. I'm very flattered to have been asked, nonetheless. Cheers JackofOz 12:25, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

New header by Banes

In music I like to play this concerto by Rieding, it is pretty easy but sounds nice. I also enjoy playing Brahms, and a little Bach from time to time. I am not that advanced (gr. 7), but play whenever I can...

On minor edits: According to the policy on this (this is hearsay as I have not even read the page), any addition or subtraction of words is a non-minor edit...So, quite a few of yours actually ARE "major edits". Anyway I will get back to you at some future date (soon, I hope) if you would like me to nominate you.....Hope you had a good christmas....Cheers Banes 14:42, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Oh, another thing....If you want to run for adminship sometime it would be a good idea to have more article space edits than talk page ones. Because most of your edits are userspace edits....I'm not telling you how to edit, but if you want to run then you ought to edit articles a little more. Do you have Cryptoderk's Vandal Figher? All the best Banes 14:52, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Happy to help. You do in fact do wikipedia a great service by making people feel appreciated, and easing stress. But yes, regarding adminship, it is good to get involved elsewhere. Cryptoderk's Vandal Fighter is the greatest tool ever for fighting vandals. Here is a link to it for you: User:CryptoDerk/CDVF. No, no complicated programming required (I am a total moron regarding programming, internet, etc), it works just fine for me, and should do for you. Let me know if you want to look into it.... Banes 18:44, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

You're most welcome. In a nutshell the program gives you a second by second list of recent changes to wikipedia, telling you who did it, how many characters were added/removed, on what page, etc. So, if you where to see say, 20 000 characters (big addition/removals show up in green) removed from George W. Bush by an anon, you can guess it was vandalism. Anyways, not everybody enjoys fighting vandals (your userpage get vandalized).... Again, you are welcome to drop me a line anytime to ask about anything (although you seem to know your way around quite alright without me). All the best Banes 18:55, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, you are supposed to click on the article. I used to have that exact problem. Are you on Internet Explorer? Because the program sometimes does that on IE. I don't really know how to fix it (besides changing your browser) so you may have to ask on the CDVF talkpage... Banes 07:00, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
Oh, for me it didn't work on IE so you're fine on that count. Have you tried running the program with your browser open? I presume the program itself is working fine, showing all the recent changes? Banes 16:41, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I would advise asking there. I've had that problem (for ages I used to go manually and type out the article name, always getting beaten to it by other reverters), so I think (since it is a common issue) that someone there will be able to help you out. I don't mind at all, sorry I havnt been of much help on this....You are most welcome to drop me a line anytime. By the way, there is a small error in your welcome messages, two words run together...Glad to see you are working on afd and using the "minor edit" more sparingly....All the best Banes 16:48, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
You are very welcome ViolinGirl! If I may, you will probably get a quicker response on the CDVF talkpage, as other users and vandal fighters may be able to help you too. Cheers Banes 16:54, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Merry Christmas to you too, ViolinGirl! --LifeMega 04:30, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

You're Welcome!

Well, that says it all! Adding the links were nothing (a matter of 4 keyboard strokes), but gave me an extra two edits :) Happy to help out with the other things....Anytime. All the best Banes 17:26, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for reverting the vandalism to my user page. I liked the Merry Christmas userbox on your page. Happy...St. Stephen's Day. Tom Harrison (talk) 21:51, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

No, it's not a violation as long as it remains in the user namespace. Sango123 (talk) 00:53, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Glad to help. ;-) Sango123 (talk) 00:55, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Not a problem. Though I must say: Wow! That was really fast work! :D Keep it up! Sango123 (talk) 01:27, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, VG!

Thanks for the hello and welcome on my talk page.

So you like classical as well, eh? Your page put me in the mood for Bach's "Little Fugue" ;)

How does one start a userbox on his page with the languages and other goodies like yours?

Thanks again and happy new year! TopCat99 01:59, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

You might want this.....

I noticed you edit your userpage often to tell other editors if you are online or offline. Well, here is an easier way, if you would like to use it: Wikipedia:Editor activity indicator. Cheers Banes 07:20, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page! --Quarl 22:43, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

You're in trouble

No, just kidding. :P

Actually, I saw that as I was monitoring the RC feed through the CVU's channel. What happened was that Lucky 6.9 deleted Zizzer as you were applying the {{d}} tag, which then recreated the page, which was then re-deleted. Since you were the sole contributor of the second deleted page, you were temporarily "blacklisted", which should go away as soon as you restart your program or take the name off the list. But don't worry, you're all right. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 23:56, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

And no, you're not blocked, for your peace of mind. :) Titoxd(?!? - help us) 23:58, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
Hehe... don't worry about it. Feel free to ask me any questions any time. :) Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:00, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Listing vandals

Hey ViolinGirl, I just want to ket you know, that when you list vandals at AIVA you should use the {{vandal|username or i.p.}} template. that produces links to the vandals talk page, contributions page, pages moved, and a link to block. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 02:03, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

No trouble at all! Besides I think it was Malo who fixed the template. I'm sure he didn't mind either. :-D Useing that template makes it easier for admins to check out a users talk page to make sure they have been warned, and the like. Happy editing. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 14:25, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
Hmm the reason behind your average vandals actions is most likely bordem. There are a ton of other reasons, some do it for fun, and make vandalism a hobby (see Willy on wheels), some users are just experimenting thats why it's important to assume good faith, and to not bite newcomers. Some disagree with content in an article and blank it. Hope that answers the question of why vandals do what they do :-D. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 23:10, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the kind welcome, ViolinGirl! Hope I'll be able to contribute something of value...er, after I finish my upcoming final exam. :-)

How many hours in your day?

Hi. I wonder how do you manage to be a violinist, a student and active Wikipedian at the same time? My cousin is a violinist too and he's busy for about 5 hours a day just for training, not to mention concerts, orchestras etc... Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Ukrained 22:50, 28 December 2005 (UTC) P.S. I'm not lost about time, we just have Christmas ahead , after the New Year :)

Thank You

Thanks for your welcome! It helped me to find resources quickly, and in a short time I have accomplished quite a bit. So far, this has been a supportive community and I appreciate being welcomed into Wikipedia.
