adopt?
[edit]I have known administrator Cailil for several months. He mentioned that I should consider getting a mentor. Later, he mentioned that the term is really "adopter". Would you be my adopter?
In more positive terms, I have interacted well with others and have not gotten into conflict. I do have a dialogue with a few editors. Will you be my adopter? Chergles (talk) 21:45, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. You've already read the background information so... As far as taking responsibility, of course you won't. If there is anything potentially controversial, I will probably discuss it with you so as not to embarass you or me! Thank you! Chergles (talk) 22:19, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of 1973 San Francisco 49ers season
[edit]A tag has been placed on 1973 San Francisco 49ers season requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. The Llama! (talk) 17:49, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

adopter
[edit]Hello, may I ask you my first question as adoptee? A few weeks ago, I saw a very poorly written section on the George W. Bush article on the 2000 primary. Are you familiar with the U.S. political process/are you American? If not, let me explain. The U.S. political parties select their candidate various ways in different states but commonly it is by a primary. This is an election where members of one party run against each other. Later, there is an election where each party's candidate runs for the political office.
The George W. Bush primary section was some disjointed sentences about church and Karl Rove. I then suggested a re-write and a few people agreed. I then rewrote to more comprehensively cover the historical events of the primary.
Now knowing some reasonable people (the people who agreed that a rewrite was a reasonable suggestion), I proposed a new idea which these same people agree is a good idea. Some U.S. politicians articles have a "cultural and political image" section. I think that is just some opinions. Furthermore, there is a danger that people who claim ownership of the article want only positive images (or only negative images). This is POV. The whole concept of an image section is shaky.
I think that there should not be such a section because it is just a section describing peoples' opinions. An alternative would be for a balanced section, trying to get all the common political images/opinions summarized. This alternative has far more potential for drama and arguments since it is hard to decide whose political opinion should be mentioned and whose political opinion should be not mentioned.
Is my analysis in the above paragraph reasonable? To avoid the appearance of favortism, I plan to apply my logic to only 2 articles, one of each major party (so as not to pick on one party). My question to you is not to make a decision but to confirm that my thought process seems rational and not completely unreasonable and POV pushing. Chergles (talk) 17:29, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

- 1)Then perhaps the image should be removed, not the video; 2) the inclusion or exclusion of media from other articles is not necessarily an indication of whether or not we should include or exclude that media. 3) Or because no one has through to include video footage of such, and some articles like Pi include animate gifs which doubtlessly take up a bit of space themselves. Plus, the video doesn't seem load unless you click on it.--HoneymaneHeghlu meH QaQ jajvam 01:19, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- 1) Who's to say which one should go then? Sounds like you'd be up for either one. In that case, I say remove the video because it's more strain on the server; 2) You refute my argument by saying other articles aren't evidence, yet in 3) You use another article as your evidence. Also, is the video from a legitimate source, like a medical journal? Or did some Wikipedian record it themselves? If so, that could be original research or a conflict of interest if that individual is trying to keep the video up. Talk page stalkers, feel free to move this comment to the article's talk page. Coach?
[edit]Hi Useight, I know we have had a difficult history but I was wondering if you would be open to couching me one day. As you can see from the bottom of my user page I do have an interest in becoming an Admin. I probably won't be you easiest student, I have a controversial history on wikipedia as you can see from my block log (I have 3 blocks and one block extension). A lot of the blocks were unfair/questionable (I can provide diffs/explanations) for these. In the past I have rubbed a few people up the wrong way, I speak my mind. However, I have done a lot of good too, with a bit of work and time, who knows. Leonardo
[edit]FYO- The use of commas. When a list is just a straight list of similar types of words, phrases or clauses, then the last two in the series are linked by "and" and no commma is necessary.
Examples:
- "Sue, Tom and Lisa were in the parade" not "Sue, Tom, and Lisa were in the parade".
- "The flag is red, white and blue" not "The flag is red, white, and blue".
- "The athlete's performance was of great difficulty, accurate execution and stylish performance." No comma after "execution".
- "The cyclist swerved off the road, fell off her bike and landed in the gutter." No comma necessary after "Bike".
By the same rule, the list of fields in which Leonardo took an interest requires no comma before the "and".
On the other hand:
- "The uniform had cream trousers, a navy blue blazer with red braid and an insignia on the pocket, and a grey felt hat." In this case a comma is necessary because the preceding description of the blazer contains an "and". The comma indicates that in speaking the sentence out loud, a slight pause would show that the grey felt hat is an entity separate from the bazer.
Hope this is helpful! Amandajm (talk) 03:39, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for your reply! I write British English for all British and European articles. I never insert commas of that type into lists, but only in places where it is necesary for clarity, as above. I don't think it looks "better" to have a comma, so we jsut have to disagree on that one. I'll remove them from this article, but having read your comment, I will leave them strictly alone when I find them in US articles. OK? :-) Amandajm (talk) 04:11, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for reverting that vandalism to Mario. I know the guy who did it - he is a classmate of mine. He hates Mario and Nintendo for no reason and wants more people to hate it too. Could you please block him for some time? February 15, 2009 (talk) 02:58, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Trouble, if you could keep a look out for me
[edit]- Take a look at this and Bsrboys talk page. Looks like we have trouble today, article I work on might need protecting. — Realist2 16:52, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

- Cheers, hopefully I used ANI effectively, we can review that later lol, for now it looks like my edit's are being watched and damaged by some exterior body. They are claiming to be my User:Bsrboy (I've told you all about him) but he says it's /b/. I currently have Thriller (album) at FAC, that really can't be messed up. — Realist2 17:03, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

- It's really odd that just after I told you about the racism thing with User:Bsrboy, he returns and so does the same vandalism. Guy someone is watching our edit coach, I rarely talk about that episode in detail. Well I was a lot cooler This Time Around. — Realist2 22:23, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not a fan of ANI like I said. If you make a report your treated with as much suspicion as the bad guy. That's why I go to specific admins for help instead. The admin there spent more time criticizing my good faith report than actually dealing with the situation or trying to provide me with any support. It really is a place where they bait for blood. Oh well. — Realist2 22:39, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Having a minor issue with the Michael Jackson article, an editor is altering sourced material with unsourced material. No edit summaries just roll backing me. I've left a warning on his page, I'm sure what I'm doing is technically OK but I don't want to be accused of warring for keeping the article in good condition. Will let someone else take charge if it continues? — Realist2 02:02, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

- Well even with all the crap that's been happening, I still managed to get Off the Wall (album) to GA. :-) I'm really proud of myself, a few months ago I would have flew off the handle over this, everything in my userspace has been indefinitely semi protected. Guess someone doesn't like me. I'm off to bed soon, interested to see which direction the editor coaching takes us. — Realist2 02:17, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

I need your advice on something
[edit]I am from Cincinnati Ohio, and i recently went to the Cincinnati article to add my cultural knowledge.
In Cincinnati we say "Please?" To request someone to repeat something they said. Well i added that to the cultural section and it was removed because it wasn't referenced.
Well it seems like i've found myself another group of argumental editors.
I have the references but it seems that they're just arguing the little facts.
Now i have been told and even heard that "Please?" is only used in Cincinnati by a old Speech Teacher from Cincinnati as well, and in the Sci-fi show Threshold. In the show Peter Dinklage's character Arthur Ramsey a mathematics and linguistics genius interrogated a pilot. the character Arthur Ramsey knew the pilot was from Cincinnati as he had used the phrase "please?" in this sense.
You'd have to go to the talk page but it seems that the two are just being argumental. Telling me i'd have to prove that "Please?" is only used in Cincinnati. and other tedious and troublesom requests that seems to be just a waste of time.
The word Please shows up in to many web pages and even adding the ? isn't enough to narrow it down. I only found the sites that talked about "Please?" because i goggled Please? Cincinnati and Dialect. No where have i seen it being used anywhere else its just one of those things that the internet just isn't good for finding because it's not next to a sex add or on a porn site.
So i need your input on this and advice on how to go about this because i don't feel like getting into another Breast article situation. I'm from Cincinnati I have often used "please?" in and out of Cincinnati like many other people i know, so i think this is a nice addition to the cultural section of the article. Yami (talk) 00:18, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! I just wanted to pass along my thanks for your support in my RfA from earlier this week. I hope I did not disappoint you. I am going on Wikibreak and I will let you know when or if I am back on the site -- I am trying to take time away to clear my thoughts and refocus on this and other priorities. Be well.
