Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Manzoni-linee.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Manzoni-linee.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Hi Trevelyanhouse!
We thank you for uploading Image:Schwitters.jpg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Infobox proposal

[edit]

Hi, I'trying to keep the infobox proposal page in a tidier system using subpages for each proposal. This allows each proposal to be worked on individually, building up edit history, its own discussion page and if required a documentation page for the template. Going "live" then a simple page rename/move.

Hence see Wikipedia:List_of_infoboxes/Proposed/Infobox Artist's Books and Multiples :-)

(Care to choose a more succint name though ?)

I can help you develop the template (but my time for wikipedia shall be very limited for next few days). David Ruben Talk 03:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah - thanks for the section header on my talk page. Ok, to develop the proposed template, lets start discussing some points at Wikipedia talk:List of infoboxes/Proposed/Infobox Artist's Books and Multiples - you don't need to be a wikiexpert or coding-guru, just help me understand better the articles where it might be used and the best use & terminology for the various parameters :-) Yours David Ruben Talk 16:59, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Hey. Please only move pages by using the move function. Cut-and-paste moves are not allowed as those split the edit history and thus violate GFDL. If the move function doesn't work (target page has more than one edit), or the move might be controversial, you can list it at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Coltrane Album Release Date

[edit]

Hello. I've noticed that you have changed a lot of the "last album"/"next album" entries for John Coltrane albums. I was wondering if you had a guide or source providing you with the precise release date, as all I have for most of Trane is the year, nothing more specific. Such a source would of particular use for John Coltrane discography. Thanks much---Editor437 (talk) 15:14, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - that link looks quite useful -- I suspect a number of articles on Coltrane albums have the wrong release date (often someone - usually me - just put the recording date).

I think the chronology could either go by release or recording date -- as long as one or the other is consistently used -- since there's over a hundred albums in Trane's discography, release date makes sense, even if key albums are omitted. CheersEditor437 (talk) 22:10, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think that would be useful -- another example would be Giant Steps and Kind of Blue, very different albums recorded at the same time.--Editor437 (talk) 22:59, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Evans reedsville 1936.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Evans reedsville 1936.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:53, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • For the record, I deleted it because it seemed out of place; mentioning that people have seen a link between Evans and Ruscha is quite different from including the picture on a page about Ruscha; anyone who wants to see it for themselves can easily find it. Also, in retrospect, it isn't really that similar at all, using a much more traditional near/far composition.Franciselliott (talk) 08:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about publisher of first edtion of Twentysix Gasoline Stations

[edit]

I'm getting conflicting information about the publisher of record for the first edition. I noted your replacement of Cunningham with Heavy Industry Publications for the first edition of Twentysix Gasoline Stations. I've been able to find several catalog records, UCLA's is one, which indicate unambiguously (not necessarily correctly) that Cunningham was the publisher of the first edition. Do you have a citation for Heavy Industry Publications being the correct publisher? The UCLA catalog record indicates no place of publication or publisher was printed in the first edition (at least). I'm not passionate, just looking for accuracy. --Quartermaster (talk) 23:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Contacting you, Warja Lavater, etc.

[edit]

I would like to contact you (low level, low stress) but you haven't enabled the "email the user" facility for your wikipedia account. Mine can be found here.

Just general interest. I've noted that you've published artists' books and am interested in your specific works. My introduction to this area was accidental as I purchased a boxed set of Warja Lavater's Imageries almost 20 years ago - I had no idea what I had, but I knew it was something special. Lavater has never gotten much credit for her work (though it has steadily grown over time) so I'm attuned to artists who may not be as visible as people like Edward Ruscha. He's obviously a beneficiary of USA-centric bias as evidenced by the fact that the works of Dieter Roth precede him, and, as I posit, so does the work of Lavater. I wouldn't be surprised if other artists who created artists' books will continue to come to light pre-dating Ruscha's Twentysix Gasoline Stations. This doesn't denigrate Ruscha's work at all since his activities were apparently uninfluenced by these other artists (Lavater and Roth, et al?). It's a fascinating field, and I'm just an anal retentive librarian who took one too many course in analytical bibliography.

Thanks for uploading Image:Yves-cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

License tagging for Image:Jazz in Silhouette.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jazz in Silhouette.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

File source problem with File:Yves-cover.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Yves-cover.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. File permission problem with File:Yves;peinturev3.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Yves;peinturev3.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
