You left before I could give you an answer. :( If the date you gave me is the founding year, which I suspect it is, you should use "Non magnus ab urbe condita," which means "Not great since the founding of the city." —WAvegetarianCONTRIBUTIONSTALKEMAIL 02:37, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question for Tony

[edit]

Sorry for posting a question here. I don't know how to respond to the message you sent me. You sent me a warning within 3 minutes of when I made my comments regarding banned words on the C-word page.

1) How did you catch it so quickly? 2) How did you know it was a joke and not true? 3) How do you prevent yourself from taking life too seriously? There seems to be no end to your seriousness. 4) Aren't some articles, due to their nature, apporpriate for such comments? above by User:67.189.111.74

  • Well, to answer your questions, 1) I am a member of the CVU and look at the recent changes list to check for people who may be vandals or don't know what they're doing. 2) I knew it must have been a joke or a bad faith edit because there isn't really a set standard for the offensivness of things. 3) I don't quite understand. 4) All articles in Wikipedia are supposed to be encyclopedic, and thus aren't the place for comments that aren't. --TonySt 00:48, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:FUC requirement #1: A free alternative must not be available to use copyrighted material. Using copyrighted material in favor of free license material is a copyright violation. If you would like another photo you can look here, but any replacement must be under a free license.--Fallout boy 22:59, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The exact text writes, No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information. The image you provided does not give any sort of information but a blur. If you can find a good image of Reznor that's under a free license, I'd have no problem with that replacing the current one. --TonySt 23:11, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

  • Your IP Address is shared by many users. Looking at Your Talk tells me that some of the users who use this IP address are less than helpful to Wiki articles. One of these users may have vandalized an article, and someone else revered it and left a notice on the talk page. Are you sure it was me? I can't find any warning on your talk page. -Tony (Talk), Vandalism Ninja 23:09, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a bit confused about what's happening at Shakespeare's life. Here, for example, you seem to be reverting to a bad edit from a good one. I'm not too concerned to get involved, I just wanted to mention the issue. AndyJones 10:25, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guru Jambheshwar University edit

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:35, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Tony. When you find copyrighted content, make sure that you blank the article except for the copyright violation tag. I did this for you on Age of silence. Good work on catching the copyright violation. Thanks, Kjkolb 18:29, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection

[edit]

I saw you just reverted vandalism on George W. Bush, and wondered what you thought about the proposals to curb what's going on there. If you have time, check out Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy, and weigh in (there's a bit of a large discussion page, so be prepared.) Hope to see you there. -Mysekurity (have you seen this?) 00:39, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Alabama vandal

[edit]

Yeah I know, eh. I really wonder sometimes why those darn kids these days like to vandalize pages for fun. I guess MSN is getting boring. I realize that you are fairly new to Wikipedia, so I'd like to say welcome (not to worry, I won't throw in the "welcome" template) I find that your work is close to mine (i.e. RC patrol) - we really need more people like you. I have a neat rollback script on this pageCopy and place it in User:TonySt/monobook.js page. - I think you'll find it rather refreshing. It works in the dif page and user contrib page. The button on the Lupin feed doesn't support it (i think.) I suggest using Firefox (if you aren't already) and don't forget hitting control+F5 when done saving. Keep it up. --Master Jay 02:17, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Woah

[edit]

Woah. Another Mainard in this fine world of Wiki? I'm from Sebago Lake - about a half an hour away from Lewiston. Not too often you see another mainard on here, eh? --TonySt, Vandalism Ninja 23:56, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Yep i'm currently in Lewiston, but i'm not a true mainard having only been here since 1995, as such I still prefer to be referred to as a maineiac :) I see you've been editing for a couple days now... Welcome to Wiki! Hope you enjoy the stay. If theres anything I, in my position of administrator, can do to help; please feel free to let me know.  ALKIVAR 03:27, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite alright :-) Akamad 00:14, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's ok you reverted that one, but please don't revert the other. These works aren't scientific, and if you have evidence that they are, then show and revert. per the featured article it was asked to add that. Thanks. [edit]

Thank you for letting me know that the articles have crossed copyright infringement ethics.I have tried to modify the articles. Please let me know whether these are proper for Wikipedia now.If anything is wrong(in these articles or anywhere else),I will try my best to conform with the norms. Dwaipayanc

  • My Response: The 'norms' are simply this: Don't copy stuff from other web sites. If you feel as though you know enough about a topic, write the article yourself rather than copying from a copyrighted source. See Wikipedia Copyrights for more information. I can also see that you have been doing a lot more than just plagiarizing - you are a good editor. I know you meant well, but please, don't take content from other web sites. --Tony(Talk), Vandalism Ninja 20:52, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • ok.In fact, there are some more articles where posiibly I have copied some other website.I will try to modify them ASAP.

The article on Lorimar Productions was overwhelmed with the logo discussion taking up too much away from the actual article itself. That's why I removed them. --Stdjsb25 21:24, 10 December 2005 (UTC)stdjsb25[reply]

Joke edit

[edit]

Well, it was a joke edit... When you compare it to what they write when they vandalise the article Jew, then it doesnt seem like an attack at all. Thanks for the car ;-) I'll use it to drive home tonight :-D Izehar (talk) 23:43, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hello TonySt/Old, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Now, about WP:AIV. Feel free to put test4 on someone's page, but test5 should be for admins. Also, make sure you do the template right, and get the article name right. So it's {{vandal|IPaddress}} and the article was Christopher murt not Christopher Mutt (or at least the one I found). Wikibofh 22:12, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
