Perishable dogs
[edit]Indeed. - TimDWilliamson speak 23:34, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Removing the word "perished" as a euphemism for "died" was literally the reason I began editing Wikipedia, it just does not read right to me. Especially when said death was in conditions that would seem to be ideal for preservation. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 23:43, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- It really only belongs in letters from Civil War soldiers that start off "My dearest Hortense,..." - TimDWilliamson speak 23:57, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, there I can deal with it. But, like many things from the Civil War, it's best left in the past. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 00:28, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Fredie Blom
[edit]Hi, and I hope all is well. I don't think we've interacted before, so it's nice to 'meet' you as well. (for full disclosure, this was linked by Abishe on the Wikipedia discord earlier today). I saw Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fredie Blom, and took a look at the sourcing. While I agree the consensus there was clearly to 'delete', I think that Blom has enough coverage to meet WP:GNG. Would you object if I re-wrote the article as a draft and went through AFC? Interview Request
[edit]Before I go into huge amounts of detail, would you consider being interviewed (via audio) for an internet radio program? If it's a firm no then no need for me to go into more detail :) Topic would be about Wikipedia, and what adminship is like. Not looking for dirt or gossip, just genuine experiences and why you take the time to do it. MrAureliusRTalk! 10:01, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, that sounds like fun! I'm on EST and usually free by 5 PM on weekdays, so let me know whenever you want to do it. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 14:55, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Awesome! I'm also on EST. There are a multitude of different ways to do an audio interview -- feel free to email me if you wish, or we can keep this on-wiki if you'd like! Skype, Zoom, Jitsi, Hangouts, Mumble, Discord are all great options for voice-only interviews. MrAureliusRTalk! 04:41, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Feedback?
[edit]Hey, if you have a moment, I'd love for you take a look at the Intellec article. It's been quite a while since I did editing on Wikipedia, and I added a bunch of cited info and two pictures (CC-BY-2.5) to the article. I just wanted to know if anything jumps out at you as incorrect per Wikipedia standards -- formatting, layout, etc. Factually I'm fairly confident it's all well-sourced. Just hoping I haven't made any major errors! :) MrAureliusRTalk! 17:56, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me. I edited the image captions a little, but everything else looks great. Nice article! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:09, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Oversight?
[edit]Hi, I'm hassling you as yours was the first name on the oversighters list that I recognised, hope that's okay. :) I came across this user Special:Contributions/2001:999:82:2048:3811:47FA:F083:45AD leaving messages on two IP editors' talk pages, claiming to know, and revealing, their names and other details, followed by what sounds like threats (?) to visit them at home. Speedy deletion nomination of Jackson Pollock (supercentenarian)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jackson Pollock (supercentenarian) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 September 2#Jackson Pollock (longevity claimant). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Question
[edit]Hello, Blade of the Northern Lights. I hope you have been doing well. I'm not sure how best to go about this, but the community (DerbyCountyinNZ, TFBCT1, Chicdat, WordwizardW, Bart Versieck, and I: source 1 source 2 source 3) have all spoken against the recent mass disruption of the suite of longevity articles, by Guarapiranga. The ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Longevity demonstrates Guarapiranga's complete lack of understanding of these articles, unwillingness to discuss mass changes with the community beforehand, and unrepentant attitude about their actions. Is it possible, with all this in mind, and given this four to nothing vote in favor of reverting List of American supercentenarians to its pre-Guarapiranga state, that as an admin you could use rollback to bring the various country and global lists to their pre-Guarapiranga state? I think it's fair to say that it's unreasonable, given the sheer number of articles disrupted, to require editors have discussions on each individual talk page. The disruption is of a very similar nature on very similar pages, and all by the same editor. Going forward, if Guarapiranga wants to transform articles they do not even understand, they can gain community consensus beforehand. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Newshunter12 (talk) 20:43, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
- I wholeheartedly agree with restoring the pages, and I see Bart Versieck seems to have beaten me to it. If it persists I'll definitely revert again, I see the ANI thread and I'll probably comment there in a bit myself. Since the RMs are already open I think it's best to just let them run their course, having them at their (admittedly really bizarre) current titles for a couple more days isn't going to kill anything and short-circuiting the process has a non-zero chance of creating yet more confusion and drama. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:36, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- It's great to see that the content of the pages have already been restored by various editors. Now that a formal process is well underway and common sense is unanimously prevailing anyway, I agree that it's best to let the RMs run their course. This episode is such a bizarre occurrence, especially since this topic has been more or less quite quiet the last couple years. Newshunter12 (talk) 03:24, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, this was a decidedly unwelcome development, thankfully the RMs look like they'll restore some sanity. Hoping this is just a one-off and it won't stir up the crazies at the 110 Club, goodness knows their absence makes these articles a whole lot easier to deal with. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 18:59, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi, you've issued a partial block on me. I understand why that would happen, but if you have a look at the AfD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/East_Asian_History_(journal) you'll see that the two editors nominating also respond to every comment on that AfD which disagrees with the position, and simply disregard evidence that disagrees with their position. Yes, I created that page and made many edits trying to improve it and also so that it can pass AfD, and that also means discovering an presenting new evidence to the AfD (which gets written off as bludgeoning), but the inference of COI is simply untrue--I don't know anyone who has published with that journal, I don't work at that institution, etc. The editors nominating to block me know their way around the system, and I don't. Is it possible to nominate them to be blocked as well? That particular AfD is deeply frustrating because the journal clearly meets their standards by being indexed in Web of Science: and their strategy is just to ignore, override. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academic_journals) https://paste.pics/57aa0d9d0c797ec2b03b405f788b9754 https://paste.pics/850a40e81eb771f06cb9d001d9abaaa6 Wikipedia isn't served by these tactics; disappointing and depressing. Sheijiashaojun (talk) 00:07, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- fwiw, I've come to endorse this request--new editors taketimeto learn how hard topusch something. As I've told them, some of my first journal aticles were deleted. DGG ( talk ) 05:44, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Clarification
[edit]Just need some clarification on something...when you say "As if humans were ever native..." as you opined in an edit summary for Diomede, Alaska are you saying you don't believe the people of Diomede are considered Native? Does this extend to other groups that call themselves Natives? Are you going to change the word "Native" in every article you come across? Also, I am not sure that Russia is considered "Europe" so is it proper to call Semyon Dezhnev a "European"? I appreciate your perspective even if I disagree. This is a genuine request to understand your edit properly. --ARoseWolf 13:03, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- I meant, humans are basically non-native as a species everywhere we go. Feel free to revert or change it however you see fit, certainly wouldn't be the first time someone else's writing was a whole lot better than mine. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 14:03, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- That was never my intent. I like to learn the reasons behind someone's edit. We all have a story, a song, if you will. While it is true that we are non-native everywhere we go, most people want to belong to the land they live on if given the chance. This is why some people like to claim themselves a native of the land they were born on. This, however conflicts with descriptions of what a native is in other cases. Though most Cherokee in Oklahoma do not consider themselves a native of Tennessee or North Carolina that is where our ancestors came from before the Removal. I have often pondered the proper use of "Native American" because it seems like it could be used for anyone born in the US. That is why I prefer "American Indian" though I know, full well, both sides of the argument over the use of that term. --ARoseWolf 15:26, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Youth Against Racism
[edit]Hi The Blade of the Northern Lights,
Sorry for posting here. I am not used to EnWP and where to post things. I posted the text below at this link. But maybe you can help with this and to say what can be done about this misshap?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The deletion of the article Youth Against Racism is strange. There are lots of sources that shows notability, among those are the Swedish Government, describing Youth Against Racism as "Sweden's largest anti-racist youth organization". Also in official regional documents form the government, such as in "Develop working methods to counteract social risks with a focus on racism and extremism" from county administrative board of Dalarna, the organisation is present. Same goes for Ombudsman for Children in Sweden which included the organisation in its annual report "Sweden owns!". The Equality Ombudsman included the organisation in its report "Roads to rights". All of these sources are government agency in Sweden.

- No problem. The Principle of Some Astonishment is one of my favorite pages on Wikipedia (I added a couple examples to it myself), that's the sort of thing I look out for a lot. Though I don't like to get partisan on Wikipedia I do sometimes read our culture war articles, this remains my favorite. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:51, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
Block question
[edit]I'm not too familiar with blocking on WP... but I noticed for this user, it displays that you blocked them... for editing Blind Channel, Adèle Exarchopoulos and John Stamos, though they have never edited those articles. Seems that it was actually this user, who is also blocked. Guessing the message appears because the two users share a portion of their IP addresses. Thought I'd ask in case I see this in the future, just not sure if it's an error or if that is normal. Thanks! --PerpetuityGrat (talk) 01:05, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
- The Blade of the Northern Lights following up on this question, I've noticed that what appears to be a dynamic IP continues to edit the article Gigi Dolin. Trying not to appear as if I own the article... but repeatedly IPs (which I'm assuming is one user using a dynamic ip address) are changing Dolin's year of birth. If I were to request a partial block as you explained it to me on my talk page, would I make that request at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents? Just getting tired of the unsourced and unexplained changes that keep happening on that page, specifically to the year of birth. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! --PerpetuityGrat (talk) 17:13, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- The typical place to ask for that would be ANI, yes. But since you asked me, I took a look myself; I figure semiprotection should help tamp it down, doesn't look like that article is getting any useful IP edits so this might get them to go away. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 21:37, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Can I please ask you to examine your closure of Aerospace Research Systems, Inc. I would have considered merge or relist as the appropriate results especially as the AfD nom. is inclined to move to a merge position. (Bentley, 2009) is RS. The article has been subject to repeated changes by one of the !voters to a point of significance. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 13:43, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
After We Fell
[edit]Hey - I missed out on the AfD for this but I wanted to let you know that it can be re-created. The film was already released in multiple countries and I don't see where anyone looked for foreign language reviews. (Sorry Robert McClenon - no shade meant, I know that you're normally pretty good with that sort of thing!) I'm going to go ahead and move the draft live. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 19:20, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- No problem, sounds good to me. Thanks for the notification. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 19:49, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- User:ReaderofthePack, User:Blade of the Northern Lights - I didn't look for reviews. I have a philosophy on AFD nominations that differs from that of some editors. I won't do the work of the author of an article and look for second chances to make an inadequate article an adequate one. I think that an article should speak for itself, and this one did not. Sometimes it results in one of my nominations being kept, and in this case it has resulted in it being deleted and re-created. That's the way it works. Deletion of DaDaBIK
[edit]Hello, I am contacting you to have some clarification about the deletion of DaDaBIK (Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/DaDaBIK). In my opinion there was no real discussion about the sources by pro-deletion editors, except from one: only one editor in fact really seemed to care about discussing if there were good sources or not and why. Other three editors basically just published a one-line "delete" comment (but this is not a vote, as stated in the AfD). Furthermore, one of the pro-deletion editors seemed not to know the difference between primary and secondary sources. Finally, overall, I don't think there was rough consensus. Thanks. Ugeeeen (talk) 09:51, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- (Blade, I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, but...) @Ugeeeen: If you're going to keep pushing for DaDaBIK, I'm going to have to ask that you answer the question I asked on your talk page while giving you a strong warning for your misconduct surrounding that AfD: Are you affiliated with DaDaBIK in any way? If you are receiving compensation for your edits, you must disclose this. Even if you are not being paid, as I warned you in that message, continued COI (conflict of interest) editing can lead to a block. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 04:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the assist. Honestly, I don't have anything to add to your reply to the OP. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:58, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

RfA 2021 review update
[edit]Thanks so much for participating in Phase 1 of the RfA 2021 review. 8 out of the 21 issues discussed were found to have consensus. Thanks to our closers of Phase 1, Primefac and Wugapodes.
The following had consensus support of participating editors:
- Corrosive RfA atmosphere
- The atmosphere at RfA is deeply unpleasant. This makes it so fewer candidates wish to run and also means that some members of our community don't comment/vote.
- Level of scrutiny
- Many editors believe it would be unpleasant to have so much attention focused on them. This includes being indirectly a part of watchlists and editors going through your edit history with the chance that some event, possibly a relatively trivial event, becomes the focus of editor discussion for up to a week.
- Standards needed to pass keep rising
- It used to be far easier to pass RfA however the standards necessary to pass have continued to rise such that only "perfect" candidates will pass now.
- Too few candidates
- There are too few candidates. This not only limits the number of new admin we get but also makes it harder to identify other RfA issues because we have such a small sample size.
- "No need for the tools" is a poor reason as we can find work for new admins
The following issues had a rough consensus of support from editors:
- Lifetime tenure (high stakes atmosphere)
Because RfA carries with it lifetime tenure, granting any given editor sysop feels incredibly important. This creates a risk adverse and high stakes atmosphere. - Admin permissions and unbundling
There is a large gap between the permissions an editor can obtain and the admin toolset. This brings increased scrutiny for RFA candidates, as editors evaluate their feasibility in lots of areas. - RfA should not be the only road to adminship
Right now, RfA is the only way we can get new admins, but it doesn't have to be.
Please consider joining the brainstorming which will last for the next 1-2 weeks. This will be followed by Phase 2, a 30 day discussion to consider solutions to the problems identified in Phase 1.
There are 2 future mailings planned. One when Phase 2 opens and one with the results of Phase 2. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Soft block of WalktheMoon,Nick,Eli,Sean222666
[edit]Hello, I was wondering if you could consider changing the block of WalktheMoon,Nick,Eli,Sean222666 (talk · contribs) to a hardblock - I think that they are likely a sock of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Brettandelle given their filter log and some behavioural and edit summary overlap. Would it be possible to do that, or should I present my evidence in a SPI? Thanks, Pahunkat (talk) 19:18, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- If you think it's a sock, let them know at SPI; if it turns out to be someone unrelated that's fine, and if it is a sock it'll be documented there. For what it's worth, I do agree this doesn't seem like a new user at all. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 21:14, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

RFA 2021 Completed
[edit]The 2021 re-examination of RFA has been completed. 23 (plus 2 variants) ideas were proposed. Over 200 editors participated in this final phase. Three changes gained consensus and two proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration. Thanks to all who helped to close the discussion, and in particular Primefac, Lee Vilenski, and Ymblanter for closing the most difficult conversations and for TonyBallioni for closing the review of one of the closes.
The following proposals gained consensus and have all been implemented:
- Revision of standard question 1 to
Why are you interested in becoming an administrator?
Special thanks to xaosflux for help with implementation. - A new process, Administrative Action Review (XRV) designed to review if an editor's specific use of an advanced permission, including the admin tools, is consistent with policy in a process similar to that of deletion review and move review. Thanks to all the editors who contributed (and are continuing to contribute) to the discussion of how to implement this proposal.
- Removal of autopatrol from the administrator's toolkit. Special thanks to Wugapodes and Seddon for their help with implementation.
The following proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration:
- An option for people to run for temporary adminship (proposal, discussion, & close)
- An optional election process (proposal & discussion and close review & re-close)
Editors who wish to discuss these ideas or other ideas on how to try to address any of the six issues identified during phase 1 for which no proposal gained are encouraged to do so at RFA's talk page or an appropriate village pump.
A final and huge thanks all those who participated in this effort to improve our RFA process over the last 4 months.
This is the final update with no further talk page messages planned.

How we will see unregistered users
[edit]Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

The topics proposed for revocation are:
- Senkaku islands
- Waldorf education
- Ancient Egyptian race controversy
- Scientology
- Landmark worldwide
The topics proposed for a rewording of what is covered under DS are:
- India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan
- Armenia/Azerbaijan
Additionally any Article probation topics not already revoked are proposed for revocation.

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Some baklava for you!
[edit]Thank you for participating in Wikipedia's longevity project pages. You may be interested to learn that lkm512 yogurt has two different publications that describe it increasing mouse lifespan 95% and about 85% respectively. Yogurt starter is available at Amazon Japan. Also. I read that only 1/3 of over 49 biological health sciences studies at a sample could be replicated. That suggests the C60 95% longevity increase study merits more efforts at replication. That's particularly meaningful as C60 buckminsterfullerene has several other studies noting beneficial effects on fungi and algae. Treonsverdery (talk) 23:18, 25 February 2022 (UTC) |

Prix Versailles
[edit]Hello, I created the draft Prix Versailles, which was subject to a speedy deletion. Is it possible to restore the draft so I can improve the article? Otherwise, can I start over and create a new draft? It seems to me to meet the requirements for notability as it has been associated with UNESCO since the beginning as explained in the Assistant Director General’s speech here and a top architecture award where I can find multiple articles in reputable media sources when doing a simple search. Thanks for the assistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxwellaaron (talk • contribs) 06:08, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- On its face I don't see a huge problem with the content, but there seems to be some history here that I'm not aware of. @RL0919: would it be an issue to restore the latest deleted revisions here? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 16:49, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- I was only involved in closing the deletion discussion, but apparently multiple accounts had created articles about this award on different language Wikipedias, and some editors suspected that it involved misuse of multiple accounts and/or undisclosed paid editing. (Note that I am not accusing anyone myself, just relaying what was said in earlier discussions.) @Maxwellaaron: if this was restored as a draft, would you be willing to state here that you will submit the draft for review by another editor rather than moving it directly to an article yourself? If so, I don't have any objection to restoring it as a draft. --RL0919 (talk) 00:49, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your replies. I was just following the steps shown for Article Creation. I'd like to edit the draft if you could restore it. I agree to submit the draft to review by another editor instead of moving it to an article myself. Thanks! Maxwellaaron (talk) 01:13, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- In that case, I'll restore it to the same location it was at before. Thanks for your patience, and best of luck with your editing! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:27, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I've completed the new draft article and am wondering what the next step should be to submit it to another editor for review. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated. Thanks! Maxwellaaron (talk) 13:14, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, just copy and paste
{{subst:submit}}
to the top, that fills in a template which will set it up for other editors to review. It may take some time, reviews can get pretty backlogged, but someone will review it (I'd do it myself if I knew anything about the subject, but I'll leave it to someone who does). Regarding an edit to the Low German language page
[edit]User ‘Blade of the Northern Lights’ removed information regarding “expulsion of German-speaking peoples during WW2” claiming it was irrelevant; I am curious about the motivation behind this, as it is pertinent information. User ‘Blade of the Northern Lights’ may be passively expressing disdain for the defeat of Hitler — worrisome behavior.
Also noticed a comment from ‘Blade of the Northern Lights’ bashing a user for expressing an ‘eastern European-backed point of view’ on a Ukraine article (?) — I am not fully sure what this is in regards to, but it appears that nationalistic bias may be becoming a pattern for user ‘Blade of the Northern Lights’. 76.101.80.164 (talk) 08:05, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

[θ] in Elfdalian?
[edit]Hi there
I just came across a statement from your hand on the page Voiceless dental fricative that says that the sound [θ] has been retained in Elfdalian. But the page on Elfdalian has a sketch of the Elfdalian phonological system, and it seems to not have the sound [θ] (although it does have the voiced counterpart, [ð]) – nor is the claim backed up by the sources cited after the paragraph in the above article. Other ressources on Elfdalian say that original (Proto-Norse) *θ became Elfdalian /d/. Do you have sources for the preservation of [θ] in Elfdalian? —Pinnerup (talk) 22:05, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- I may very well be wrong, it's been a long time since I've looked at it. If I'm wrong definitely remove it, I'll do a little looking around and see if I can find anything; if I do I'll restore it. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 22:30, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Sure. So far I've not succeeded in finding any other sources that list [θ] as part of the phonemic inventory of Elfdalian, so I've gone ahead and removed it for now. —Pinnerup (talk) 10:14, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Promotional username, promotional edits
[edit]Hi, Blade. The account Nilfisk Group Communication seems to be a typical promotional-username, promotional-edits editor. I generally hardblock those, with a much sharper block notice and conditions, as per {{uw-spamublock}}. Was there a special reason you softblocked them? Would you mind if I upped it to a hard spamblock? Considering edits like this, which they added twice and apparently don't even understand was promotional,[2] it seems a bit worrying to let them loose on the 'pedia with only a username change. - I'm on an iPhone 8 in desktop mode (since mobile is just awful for using any admin tools). I could take a screenshot if it'd help, what happens is my screen defaults to zooming out so all the text is on the page; it treats underscores as text and won't break it up at all, so it stays as one line of text regardless of how far outside the normal bounds of the page it takes. That means every time I reload the page (be it after editing or just navigating back) it's so zoomed out the text is completely unreadable, plus if I'm scrolling it careens from side to side unless I'm careful to go straight up and down. I'm awful with technical things, so maybe worth a VPT thread? The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 20:18, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

An apology
[edit]Hi The Blade of the Northern Lights, I accidentally desysopped you when desysopping another user. I'm baffled as to how I made this mistake but I have reversed it and am sorry it happened in the first place. Acalamari 00:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- No problem. You acted so fast I didn't even notice, no harm no foul. You've been a solid bureaucrat for a long time, things happen; goodness knows I've had my own misfires with admin tools. If you'd blamed it on the Japanese signatures I'd have believed it! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I happened to have seen the desysoping on my watchlist just as it happened and have to say: I was quite sorry to (as I believed) see you resigning the bit. Upon visiting the bureaucrat's noticeboard, I was confused at seeing the admin username shown as Atama, and self-reflected at how surprised I was that you had changed your username while I somehow managed to miss its happening. And yes, I ultimately accepted things as being sad but true because of the Japanese character displayed in Atama's signature. And so, to hasten this post's conclusion, I would like to say: I'm glad it wasn't about you, you would have been missed, and if it had been the culmination of your administrative tenure, you'd have served Wikipedia well and left an indelible positive mark by your influence and presence. And I would have told you so. I'm sure glad I didn't have to. Best regards my wiki friend.--John Cline (talk) 04:21, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the understanding! Acalamari 05:06, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- No problem. And thanks for the kind words, John Cline, I'm glad I can be useful around here. Good to see you too! The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 12:16, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

- Naaaah, that's nothing. The shortest I know of is a mere 20 seconds! As far as I know the easiest way to find out the number of seconds is to set your date format to ISO 8601 (temprorarily, in my case). Graham87 13:35, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Contentious topics procedure adopted
[edit]You are receiving this message because you are subscribed to updates on the Arbitration Committee's discretionary sanctions review process.
The Arbitration Committee has concluded the 2021-22 review of the contentious topics system (formerly known as discretionary sanctions), and its final decision is viewable at the revision process page. As part of the review process, the Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:
The above proposals that are supported by an absolute majority of unrecused active arbitrators are hereby enacted. The drafting arbitrators (CaptainEek, L235, and Wugapodes) are directed to take the actions necessary to bring the proposals enacted by this motion into effect, including by amending the procedures at WP:AC/P and WP:AC/DS. The authority granted to the drafting arbitrators by this motion expires one month after enactment.
The Arbitration Committee thanks all those who have participated in the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process and all who have helped bring it to a successful conclusion. This motion concludes the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process.
This motion initiates a one-month implementation period for the updates to the contentious topics system. The Arbitration Committee will announce when the initial implementation of the Committee's decision has concluded and the amendments made by the drafting arbitrators in accordance with the Committee's decision take effect. Any editors interested in the implementation process are invited to assist at the implementation talk page, and editors interested in updates may subscribe to the update list.

Hale-Byrnes House
[edit]Hi there. You recently blocked the user GeorgeWashingtonWitnessTreeMuseum per WP:ORGNAME. While it appears that they are (clumsily) trying to file an unblock request, it appears that they may be still editing the article Hale-Byrnes House article as an IP editor. There are IP edits that closely match the named account's, occurring both before and after the named account's activity. Is this considered socking in this case? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:43, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Given it was strictly a username block, it's not technically. I'd have preferred the user make a new account with a compliant username, but since it wasn't a behavioral issue I'm inclined to let it slide. A COI template on the talkpage may be useful, though. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 17:22, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- I've added the {{COI editnotice}} template on the talk page. Looking at the user's talk page, I think there is some confusion about whether they have an active rename request or not. It sounds as if they were using the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, but I don't know if they completed their submission. I don't know if there is a queue that can be checked. Kleuske has been trying to help them understand how to use the {{unblock-un}} template, but they haven't done it correctly. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:24, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
