USC logo license
[edit]I know this is a Commons issue, but it's blown up here. Where is the evidence of a Creative Commons license for File:USC logo horizontal.svg? —C.Fred (talk) 01:02, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- The University of South Carolina brand toolbox does not state logos are copyrighted or trademarked and do not have the marking as that. Please see https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/communications/toolbox/visuals/logos/index.php, and please correct me if I am wrong. I'm simply trying to update the logo, which is very similar to the old and was on Commons as well. TheNobleBug (talk) 01:19, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
USC logo
[edit]Their "preferred guidelines" does not apply to Wikipedia. Just because they want the extra space around it doesn't mean it needs to be there. The space is unnecessary. Also, what is your connection to USC? Do you work for them? You're editing pretty heavily on the USC-related articles and am very concerned about making sure their "brand" is correct to their preferences.
If you knew anything about our guidelines, you'd also know that I decided to not overwrite the image after you reverted the first time. Even though it wasn't a problem the first time, you're making it into a problem. It is a very common practice to remove the extra space around the logo at Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. You'd also know that we don't delete files just because they're an "old logo" or because it's a "duplicate", which is inaccurate considering the file I uploaded does not have the extra space around it. Corky 01:38, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- I'd also prefer you not to accuse me of "recklessly editing" like you did in this edit. Corky 01:39, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Lovely typo I made in that. We both know you should have posted here or something similar before creating a duplicate page. Also, I realized my mistake after reviewing the brand toolbox again. If you look at the file I reverted back to your design previously. TheNobleBug (talk) 01:42, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
I also do not care whose file is used. If you decide to proceed with yours please add it to the pages that referenced mine and mine can be deleted. Further, if you know how get the old logo replaced on the USC wiki data page. I’m just trying to update the logo and not have duplicates of things. It’s not a dramatic thing. Lastly, please specify in your logo name it is the horizontal variant rather than the centered. TheNobleBug (talk) 01:48, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- Does "horizontal variant rather than the centered" really matter? It only matters to those who work for the university... Corky 01:57, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
I do not work for the university. If eventually the centered is uploaded it would be nice to have them named like that. I was trying to be specific with the name. Please start the deletion process for my variant. You are correct you know some of the processes better than me. I didn’t like the old logo, so I was getting the new one up. Happy editing! TheNobleBug (talk) 02:03, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- If the centered one is uploaded at some point, then it can be appropriately named to reflect that. Thanks for updating the article. Corky 19:14, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
