WAM Updates for top contributors
Hi! Thank you for participating in Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM). You are receiving this email because your number of contributed articles is in the global top 20 - congratulations! We have just received confirmation that the Wikimedia Foundation will allow our global top 3 participants to pick a free t-shirt from the Wikimedia Store. Here are the rules for getting a free Wikimedia t-shirt:
- A participant's article count is combined on all language Wikipedias they have contributed to
- Only Wikipedia Asian Month on Wikipedia projects will count (no WikiQuote, etc.)
- The global top 3 article count will only be eligible on Wikipedias where the WAM article requirement is at least 3,000 Bytes and 300 words.
- Please make sure your articles fulfill the rules, such as proper references, notability, and length.
- International organizers will double check the top 3 users' accepted articles, so if your articles are not fulfilling the rules, you might be disqualified. We don't want it happened so please don't let us make such a decision.
- The current top 3 article counts are 46, 38, and 37. (Nov. 10) Can you beat them?
- There are also some updates for organizers that you may interested to know:
- We will allow 2 Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors on a Wikipedia if the top 2 contributors to WAM each have more than 30 accepted articles.
- Additional souvenirs (e.g. stickers and bookmarks) will be giving to Ambassadors along with their certificate.
- Feel free to contact me at my Meta talk page for any questions regarding WAM.
Best Wishes,
Addis Wang

Salvatore Cuomo
Not to be a pain in the ass but the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvatore_Cuomo is completely fake. I speak several languages and been living in Japan for a decade and none of the refernces make sense or are accurate whatsoever. I went to eat at one of his restaurant and decided to check online. And I was surprised about the wikipedia page... because no-one knows about him in japan. The restaurants are a sort of Mc. Donald's. People know the name but he has never done anything of the things listed on wikipedia. Nothing relevant. So, I started checking... and... nothing is true.
Example: The article says: "In February 2014 Salvatore Cuomo opened his first restaurant in Taiwan. TVBS reported that the chef's move would help the country with an injection of $70 million in the economy.[16][17]" --- The article does not talk about it at all whatsoever. Whoever wrote the whole page has been playing with the fact that probably none of you speaks Chinese and took it to his/her advantage.
The rating of the restaurants are all made up. Anthony Bourdain did an episode about the XEX but he was talking about sushi. It has nothing to do with rating or the restaurant, or the company. The whole episode is actually on youtube.
The ratings on TripAdvisor are just fake. Mainly because TripAdvisor doesn't have ratings of this kind, and most of Salvatore Cuomo's ratings are negative. Just check.
The article also states: "Salvatore started doing TV in Japan, hosting a TV cooking program on major television[22] and smaller channels.[23]" If you google it... there is nothing. I live in Japan and there's never been anything about Salvatore Cuomo on tv. There are some interviews on minor local TV stations that have nothing to do with the national tv. In fact, if you contact the company, YsTable ( thing I actually did, because I am sick today and have nothing to do ) they will tell you thay their office/public relation pays for minor local tv station for appearing in small local news. But again, nothing important nor relevant. Kind of like the small town tv station that can be seen only in a 2km radius.
HE also never did any cooking program. There is no record whatsoever. You can easily check on NHK the national TV broadcaster and ask for it. There is a cooking channel on youtube. Nothing more. Pretty lame.
I found the episode of Salvatore Cuomo at the Iron Chef TV Program in the 90s but he was not part of the show. He was just a cook/chef there to compete against the main star. He even lost. So, I'd say this is all a huge bunch of lies.
I love Wikipedia... I basically find out I have cancer every week thanks to wikipedia... so I couldn't live without it... but guys please, make sure people don't make up promotional pages.
CARRYING ON... Awards and honours... non of them are actually national recognitions. For example, the International Pizza Festival held in Naples World Pizza Championship... it is not how it sounds. It is actually a local town festival where the major sponsor ( Caputo, a flour company based in Naples ) calls the championship WORLD PIZZA CHAMPIONSHIP, but it is in fact registered as Caputo Cup. Throught the year there are several World Pizza Championships in Naples, all called "WORLD" because they actually invite anyone to take part to it, but it is not a national thing. AT ALL. I'm italian. I know it.
ORDRE DES COTEAUX DE CHAMPAGNE... mmmmm I went on the website and there is no name or no reference about Salvatore Cuomo. Also, you can download the PDF and check the history. This is simply made up.
Ambassador of Mozzarella Bufala Campana. Based on what? There is no such a thing... unless you count company "A" calling you ambassador for their mozzarella.
2014 Parma Ham Specialist??? Parma Ham has not such a think! I'm italian and took me 2 minutes to call the call centre and ask. Do it yourself. Try, "Consorzio del prosciutto di Parma" - Phone: +39-0521.246211
Sorry guys but this is a promotional page Not an article for wikipedia.
Books. Sold about 155 copies. Made by himself and the company's publisher agent. The book is ONLY sold on Amazon. There has never been a Salvatore Book anywhere in Japan. I actually know it because when I called the company I also asked about it. Everyone can publish on amazon.
I think this page shouldn't be here. It makes no sense for wikipedia. Whatsover. It's all fake.
I also checked Salvatore Cuomo Facebook account and started checking up things... and yes, he is a restorator, but there are posts on wikipedia dated 2015 where he brags about Wikipedia.
If you need more info let me know.

- @Mauriceyandiorio:, Hi mate! I will recheck once I complete the present project of mine.--jojo@nthony (talk) 04:53, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
No problem jojo. Happy to help. I've also noticed that the page has been made in other three different languages and somehow all the contributors ave always the same IP address but different accounts. This is 100% fake.
If you also use the Checkuser Tool you will find out that the first editor, tom motto, torriatte, Hito1900masa have the same IP log in history. One other thing... the user torriatte, which I believe to be the same person, was involved in a conversation in the other wikipedia IT, JP and KR. They called the bluff but he managed to convinced them to have the page published. With kindness. Check all his history. The IT.Wikipedia team deleted the first attempts and there are records there in italian. They were a bit suspicious and deleted almost 70% of the translated copy Threecharlie first uploaded. In one instance he got in touch with the team managing the Japan channel/pages and got them to approve the entry. Very cheaky.
I'm trying to check here and it's just obvious. Plus again... there is no record whatsover in Japan. I'm trying to check but cannot find anything on tv, newspapers or anything else.
p.s.: I checked the user Tom Motto... is everywhere. He/she is the person uploading the pages in different languages. HE ad similar conversation with all editors to have the page approved. Everytime had problems because was not fit and got deleted a few times in kr.wikipedia, it.wikipedia and jp.wikipedia
Mauriceyandiorio (talk) 05:46, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
You must stop busting my B**S.
Yes the entry is a fake. Tom Motto, Hito1900masa is always me. I got paid for this. Everything is made up. Now stop harrassing me and live me alone. F**K you.

Need your help sir!
Hi there! I need your help actually, I wanted to write an article on 'Sandeep Maheshwari, he's an Indian entrepreneur, author and a motivational speaker. He is widely known for his motivation seminars and also is the founder of a website called ImagesBazaar which has the largest collection of Indian images & videos. I'm 101% sure that he is a notable figure (a simple Google Search might help). But it seems like someone revoked any article by this name to be rewritten, I have already requested it at ppWikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By nationality]] tho it's very unlikely that someone would write one. Since you're the only administrator I know who can help me, is it possible for you to write an article on Sandeep Maheshwari? Thanks and regards, TheodoreIndiana (talk) 06:48, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
- @TheodoreIndiana: Hi Mate, I am not an administrator and I do not have authority to remove a block. The best way to move forward is to create an article about the person in your sandbox and take it to an administrator, requesting him to move it to main namespace. However, I have my doubts about the notability of the person and I am familiar with deletions of articles on similar people. Still, it is worth a try. --jojo@nthony (talk) 07:05, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Alternative medicine practitioners
Hello. I commend your work on creating biographies on Indian award winners but there's some serious things to consider. I've recently found most of your work on Alternative medicine (AM) practitioners to fail mainly WP:FRINGE/PS. Please be careful when writing on such practitioners in future.
Avoid doing these, along with examples from articles you created:
- using the word "allopath" (a derogatory term) to refer to regular medicine
- referring to any form of alternative medicine as "scientific", practitioners as "medical doctors, scientists" and their own research getting mentions in AM journals as "cited by peer-reviewed medical journals" diff, diff
- most importantly, saying that they can "cure" so and so--this fails WP:MEDRS. diff
Now, we could have opinions (as such keep that away from editing) on this but it all boils down to the main articles on Homeopathy and Ayurveda: asserting their efficacy in these bio pages will be contradictory, almost like a WP:POVFORK. If any arguments, take it there first. This is from my more detailed post at Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics/Archive 63. I'm mostly sure this was all done in good faith, you being unaware of these guidelines. Familiarise yourself with them.
PS: "See also" sections don't contain repeated links in the article, redundant per WP:SEEALSO. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 09:48, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Ugog Nizdast:, Thanks for your comments. I have been editing Wikipedia for over 11 years and I am fairly knowledgeable about the guidelines, still some of your comments are welcome.
- The articles you mentioned were part of my attempt to blue the red links in the list of Padma award recipients. The primary claim to notability of the subjects of those articles is Padma Award per WP:ANYBIO and they received the award for their contributions to medical science (as per award citation fro the Government of India). I was merely echoing the comment in the lead section.
- On the article on Balendu Prakash, you invoked WP:MEDRS, but on checking, I did not find any claims of cure but only the sentence that Combining medical practice with research, he is reported to have developed new treatment methods for diseases such as Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, Migraine, Anemia, Asthma, Chronic pancreatitis and Multiple sclerosis. I had also added a sub section, Controversy, mentioning the negative reactions to Prakash's treatment methods in my original text, which has since been edited out and part of the content re-positioned.
- On peer-reviewed status of the papers mentioned in the above article, two of the journals cited, The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine and International Journal of Ayurveda Research are known to be peer-reviewed but I cannot vouch for the quality of the peer reviews which would fall under WP:OPINION.
- @Ugog Nizdast:, Thanks for your comments. I have been editing Wikipedia for over 11 years and I am fairly knowledgeable about the guidelines, still some of your comments are welcome.
- However, some of your comments would guide me in my future work. Thanks for that and Cheers !!--jojo@nthony (talk) 12:35, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm aware of your work on Padma Shree awardees (I've stalked you a little...haha) and your experience here. I'm trying (I hope) to not be too critical.
- that's what I've covered in my post at the Indian noticeboard. The Indian government and the media have a position on it contrary to FRINGE. Presenting their views is fine (to some extent), but making it in the pedia's voice is wrong. Saying he got an award from the government for his contribution to medicine is wrong compared to he got an award from the government for his "contribution to medicine". See ATTRIBUTEPOV at work here, one minor change makes all the difference.
- That fell close to a medical claim, but I removed it since someone besides me could question its relevance here. They do make a lot of claims about their field, why should each of their bios have them? If relevant goes to the main article. Now I'm also aware of the situation here, creating articles beyond stub quality is hard and it is tempting to expand as much as possible from basic references. But since we're dealing with fringe advocates, beware of WP:FALSEBALANCE and more care is required; NOTNEWS should be strictly applied.
- MEDRS, FRINGE and related pages show that AM do have their own journals and which they say are peer reviewed, but usually fail MEDRS--they need the high quality third-party support. There's the WP:FTN for help in checking such source's reliability. Hope it's clear, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 13:53, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

- @Ugog Nizdast: Thanks for the quick revert. Guidelines are good as guidelines but they are not rules like for eg. WP:NPOV and are subject to evolution. WP:FRINGE is one that is prone to evolution and has evolved over time. But what you said about ATTRIBUTEPOV makes sense since, unlike in India, Ayurveda is not considered a regular branch of medicine by the western world. We may not agree on a few points (especially about that medical claim, where the mention is only about a report and does not contradict WP:NPOV) but I know we agree on maintaining quality of the Wikipedian articles. My wikipolicy is the one I shamelessly borrowed from one of those userboxes, Contribute..... let go, and I respond only to criticisms/comments/requests made in good faith. Felt yours was one was the reason for my explanation. Thanks.--jojo@nthony (talk) 15:29, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi! Am not sure if you have notice it or not, but the annual editing competition Wikipedia:WikiCup has started and the signup is open till 5 February 2017. The cup encourages content improvement and tries to make editing on Wikipedia more fun; and it did that for me last year. I have hence decided to drop this friendly note hoping that you would take part. Although the signup ends on 5th Feb, the earlier you sign in the earlier you start scoring. Page deletion of Nehru college of engineering thrissur .
Hello Tachs, I need your help to delete(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehru_College_of_Engineering_and_Research_Centre) this Wikipedia page of Nehru college. As you may know that this is not a well reputed college and infamous for violence against students. This page is deliberately created for promotion of their institution. Most people refer Wikipedia page of a particular entity in order to get some genuine information. So, those who refers this page will be lead to misguided information. Please take necessary action against this article. For more information about this college please go through below news article link.Their are a lot of news against this particular institution. http://english.manoramaonline.com/news/kerala/nehru-college-thrissur-student-suicide-torture-methods.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krishferrare (talk • contribs) 15:51, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Krishferrare:, Hi friend, deletion of an article has to go through certain procedures. You may nominate the article for deletion through Wikipedia:Articles for deletion channel. Or you may report about the page to an administrator (you can find them here Category:Wikipedia administrators). However, that in itself may not be helpful as the management practice of an institution is not reason enough for the deletion of the article about it. --jojo@nthony (talk) 17:12, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, thank you so much for your work! I know Suresh, and he called me this afternoon to say that two of the refs are by another scientist of the same name. Amazingly, there are three of them (him, someone at RMIT Melbourne, and someone at an IIT in agricultural science). In any event, he sent me a selected list of his most notable journal articles, which I've inserted. I've also copy-edited. Diff. My best. Tony (talk) 09:36, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter
And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:
- Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
- Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
- 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
- Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.
The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.
So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

The WikiCup
Please make sure you only nominate DYKs for the WikiCup when they have appeared on the main page, at which point you should get a notification on your talk page, as you did when Perdur Radhakantha Adiga was a DYK. You have currently submitted Nuggehalli Raghuveer Moudgal for DYK too soon because it has not yet appeared on the main page. Properly speaking I should remove the submission and the points you have been awarded, and you would then need to resubmit it when the hook appears on the main page (probably tomorrow). However, that seems unnecessarily bureaucratic, so we will let it pass on this occasion. On behalf of the WikiCup judges. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:57, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: My ignorance, apologies. It's already been evaluated, or else I would have removed it myself. Thanks for bringing it to my notice; it will not be repeated. --jojo@nthony (talk) 14:31, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
