Permission requests

Many editors often wonder how to request permission to use an image they found somewhere, or a section of text from another source. Try using one of the permission request templates created specifically for this purpose so that you do not have to fuss with all the details.

I have picked up a small typo in the usebox, consider changing "they've" to "he's" or "he has". Regards, G.A.S 20:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

==Biomechanoid==

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Biomechanoid, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Biomechanoid. Meridian

[edit]

Hello T-borg. I hope you can help me, I need to hear (or rather read) your opinion. Perhaps you realized that Tyar who you know very well, deleted the important locations section in the W.I.T.C.H. TV series article, and instead of it he created four articles about the four planets which plays an important role in the story of the show. Perhaps you realized that as well, that I tried to expand these articles, (for instance: Earth (W.I.T.C.H. TV series)), and I did this expansion to every article, except the Meridian (W.I.T.C.H. TV series) article. Here I need your opinion: I wanted to do the same with this article (copy the text from an older revision of the tv series article, etc.), but then I saw this page Meridian (W.I.T.C.H.), and I thought: Do we really need two articles about Meridian? Wouldn't it be easier if there was one Meridian article that contains both the facts to associate with the comics and the animated series?

So this is my question: What do you think about merging the two Meridian articles? Then one could easily find every information about Meridian in the comics and Meridian in the animated series, on one page instead of two. Please answer me as soon as you can. If you say do it I will do it (I have a version of this "two Meridians in one" article). If you say no (then please give me some reasons) I will accept, but then I will do to the Meridian (W.I.T.C.H. TV series) article the same I had done to the others. If you have more questions drop me a line. Blunk 13:19, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here it is: Meridian (W.I.T.C.H.). But it's nothing special, I just copied the text from an older revison of the main page, and after I added some links and made some little changes. About this glossary: What would you like to do exactly? What would it contain or rather what should it contain? Blunk 11:57, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thanks. Now only one question remained: What should we do to the other Meridian page? The glossary: If you move the "Special Items", "Planets" and "The Hearts" sections, there will be nothing on the main page then. But you are right: bring this up at the talk page, and let's see what the others say. Blunk 12:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but what do you exactly mean by this: independant third party references? Blunk 15:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops I didn't realize there were 2 pages, merging is a good idea. I have posted The Oracle Falls but I wanted to ask you a question: do you go to TV.com anymore as Todorank. If you do go to W.I.T.C.H. and check out the Meridian Chronicles Forum to see how much trouble people are giving me about my site. I am Jacktor (and no unlike TV.com I'm not 2 people here). Sashko is my Bulgarian friend. If you still go there, give me your opinion on MoonCloud127...Tyar 16:01, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since I'm assuming you've been to Meridian Chronicles, can you give me a one-sentence review quote for my "Reviews of the Site" on the homepage (anwser on the forum there, the guestbook, or here, or our secret page). Tyar 20:41, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Twenty eight hours in a day would make me very happy, but otherwise, everything is (<plagiarism>) AOkay (</plagiarism>). What about you? Very nice song. The only problem I found is that it says we never bite, but every once in a while you're calling others "fool", though I'm sure that has something to do with Al's song, which I've never heard (or plan to hear). ;) · AndonicO Talk 13:56, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Properly formatted" AfD

[edit]

If people can read, comprehend, and comment on the discussion, it's "properly" formatted enough. The decision was delete because, in this discussion, the only argument to keep didn't even speak about the article, but just about the formatting of the AfD, while the delete arguments raised valid concerns which were never refuted. This is not a bureaucracy, we don't worry about differences which don't actually have a material effect, or reject Form 103959A just because some box didn't get checked. Vertigo

[edit]

Hi, and may I compliment you on your diligent editing for WikiProject Comics. I need to ask you to hold off for a moment on changing "Vertigo" to "Vertigo Comics". The name of the imprint is simply "Vertigo", as noted at the DC Comics' official "About" page, and in such disparate sources as the trade paperback The Invisibles: Blood Hell in America and Hellblazer #130, to pick a random Vertigo comic and book.

What happened, apparently, is that someone created the Vertigo article in 2002 with the misnomer "Vertigo Comics". Editors have used Vertigo (comics) as the link, but no one bothered to change the misnamed article. I never would have noticed were it not for your diligent attempts to make the links match the name of the article.

I'll hold off on renaming the original article for a couple of days in case, just to be very conservative and on the safe side, there's evidence otherwise about the Vertigo imprint's trademark as registered with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. Unless it's registered there as Vertigo Comics, the imprint really is just named Vertigo, just as Simon & Schuster isn't "Simon & Schuster Publishing" or "Simon & Schuster Books". Thanks. --Tenebrae 16:34, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. And may I say I've never the pleasure of corresponding with someone from Bulgaria. That seems very exotic to me. As storied as its history is, Bulgaria is little-known to most Americans, and I find it fascinating to "meet" someone from a country I know so little about. Most of my introductions to new lands come from trying the foods (the best schnitzel I've ever had was in a Transylvanian restaurant in Canada, of all places, giving me a new appreciation for Romanian cuisine) and I can't say I've ever encountered Bulgarian food. I do imagine your architecture is amazing, and your emergence from the Communist bloc was history-in-the-making; this probably happened during your lifetime.
This is all tangential to editing Wikipedia, of course, but I did want to remark on the amazing international reach of our fellow editors. This truly is a world-class project. Good editing to you as well! --Tenebrae 16:52, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship between Three letter acronym and TLA

[edit]

Must have been an oversight, sorry. Though it may be better as a dab link on the top of the page, something like "For other uses, see TLA", don't you think? —May the Edit be with you, always. (T|C) 17:47, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mmmmm. I have mixed feelings. Three letter acronym is a subset of TLA, so it would have to say something like "For other uses of TLA, see TLA." which (I think) would look a bit weird at the top of an article called "Three letter acronym". Not surprisingly I guess, I prefer it as it currently is.
(i.e. "A three letter acronym (commonly referred to as a TLA) is ... ").Your thoughts? Pdfpdf 16:36, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If consensus favours it, ok. I'm going to be a bit busy for awhile, so could you bring it up on the talk page? It's not that big of a deal, so it'll probably get solved quickly. —May the Edit be with you, always. (T|C) 17:44, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to bring "it" up on the talk page, but I'm not altogether sure what "it" is.
  • You changed "(commonly referred to as a TLA)" to "(commonly referred to as a TLA)".
  • I asked "Why?".
  • You replied "Though it may be better as a dab link".
  • I replied "I prefer it as it currently is". (Perhaps I should have replied: "Sorry, I still don't understand"?)
  • You replied "If consensus favours it, ok".
I have two responses/questions: 1) I think I (still) don't understand why you don't like it as it is, why you think it may be better as a dab link, and what such a link would look like. 2) It has been like it is for a while; isn't that already some sort of consensus?
I agree that it's no big deal, and that there's no hurry; from my POV, it's just that I don't understand why you want to change it, and I don't understand what you want to change it too.
As I've said, I'm happy to both leave things as they are, or bring "it" up on the talk page. However, if the latter, I'm not sure what "it" is. Cheers, Pdfpdf 01:17, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(P.S. May the Edit also be with you, always. Pdfpdf 01:26, 1 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I just ment that if we use {{otheruses3}}, for example, it would look more standartised. I mean, I haven't seen other pages link the acronym. —May the Edit be with you, always. (T|C) 10:56, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see. (That's much less complicated than what I thought you were saying ... )
OK. I'll think about it, and then do something. Cheers, Pdfpdf 12:30, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification:
Your original question was: Though it may be better as a dab link on the top of the page, something like "For other uses, see TLA", don't you think?.
Now that I think I understand what you were asking, my answer is: "Yes, you are probably right. That probably would be better." Pdfpdf 12:40, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:FantasticFourDVD.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FantasticFourDVD.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. Hey, T-borg! I just dropped by to say that, after seeing Elaich's suggestion here, I was bold and went ahead and nominated Ed, Edd n Eddy for Good Article status. Unfortunately, I won't be 'round these parts much after a week (which will probably be around the time this article gets reviewed), so I hope that you will be willing and able to handle the article's GA candidacy; feel free to notify our fellow wiki-collaborators of this article's GAN, too. My past experience with the Good Article process hasn't been particularly enjoyable, but I wish you all the best of luck in this endeavour, and I hope that, when I ever get some time, I'll be able to assist you and the others during the GA review. You're listed as one of our contributors, but recent inactivity in the project has led us to be rather short on mottos. Currently, the schedule only has mottos up to August 12th, and that's only because I just spent half an hour or so filling them in! In order to make sure the project doesn't fold in, we need your help coming up with ideas for new mottos, commenting on active proposals, closing finished submissions, and your input on a new proposal to re-use some of our older mottos when we run out of new ones. Hundreds of editors see our mottos every day; if you can, please take some time out of your normal editing and drop by to help the project out. Thanks for your time. Motto of the day

[edit]

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:46, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

articles on separate characters is sometimes good if they meet the general notability guidelines. it keeps the character sections to be summarized better. [edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Ed, Edd n Eddy logo

Ed, Edd n Eddy is an animated television series created by Danny Antonucci and produced by Canada-based a.k.a. Cartoon. It premiered on Cartoon Network on January 4, 1999, and ended on November 8, 2009 with the premiere of the series' TV movie finale, Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show. Designed to resemble classic cartoons from the 1940s to the 1970s, the series revolves around three adolescent boys known as "the Eds", who constantly invent schemes to make money from their peers to purchase jawbreakers. Their plans usually fail, leaving them in various predicaments. Before signing a contract with Cartoon Network, Antonucci approached Nickelodeon, but the channel demanded creative control of the show, which Antonucci did not agree to. Several specials, shorts, and video games either based on the series or featuring the series' characters have been produced. Viewed from 31 million households in 29 countries by both children and adults, Ed, Edd n Eddy received positive reviews and several awards and nominations. It remains the longest-running original Cartoon Network series and Canadian-made animated series to date. (more...)

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

[edit]

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
