  • A motion was passed to enact a 500/30 restriction on articles related to the history of Jews and antisemitism in Poland during World War II (1933–45), including the Holocaust in Poland. Article talk pages where disruption occurs may also be managed with the stated restriction.

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

[edit]

Hello Super ninja2,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Technical news

  • When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
  • There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a has been deprecated; it covered immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target.

Technical news

  • When you move a page that many editors have on their watchlist the history can be split and it might also not be possible to move it again for a while. This is because of a job queue problem. (T278350)
  • Code to support some very old web browsers is being removed. This could cause issues in those browsers. (T277803)

March 2022

[edit]

You have added a 4Kb edit on 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and its sister page, which looks a little redundant. It looks better on the sister page rather than on the invasion page. Is it possible to try to avoid duplication of material since the Invasion page is already approaching 400Kb in size. ErnestKrause (talk) 17:22, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:ErnestKrause I think that since the main article talks about the opinion of the ordinary people in the world and in Russia (such as protests and boycotts) whereas the sister article talks about the international community (governments), it's better to keep it in the main article as it is important to show the opinion of ordinary people and every points view. Control copyright icon Hello Super ninja2! Your additions to 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Please fix the plagiarism issue before re-adding the content in question. The onus to achieve consensus for inclusion is on those seeking to include disputed content, so you should be the one starting a talk page discussion. Please also use summary style and avoid indiscriminate detail; there is no need to list virtually every single poll result or finding in the main article. Thank you. Revert for a better image?

[edit]

Hello Super ninja2 Why did you revert this image? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Massacre_at_Chios&diff=cur&oldid=1074340628 The painting was restored and now it's obviously with more sharp colour than the previous version which was too much brown and yellow because of the old varnish and where the blue had become grey. I understand that we can find the former version, with a less morbid atmosphere, a "better image" but it's not as it looks now. Imho the choosen image should correspond to the current version, which is also more close from the original painted. Best regards --Shonagon (talk) 23:38, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's the three-revert rule, which is part of the edit-warring policy. Reverting two different users who revert your initial edit, when you have already in the past proposed that change and been unable to get a consensus, is absolutely edit-warring. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 07:20, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucracy in United States

[edit]

Is Bureaucracy in United States a duplicate of United States federal civil service? Ruбlov (talkcontribs) 17:08, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ruбlov No, as I'm planning to expand it to make it more comprehensive of the bureaucratic system in the US in general, not on specific sector of the government like the United States federal civil service. I'm gonna explain the role of bureaucracy in the US and how it controls the American politics and its foreign policy. Thank you! Shorouq★The★Super★ninja2 (talk) 04:47, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, best of luck with that. You might want to move it to Bureaucracy in the United States as that is how most other such articles are titled, Education in the United States, Religion in the United States, etc. Ruбlov (talkcontribs) 11:15, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I'm sorry you've been caught by a 6 day IP block applied by ST47's bot, designed to stop vandalism coming from User:46.32.121.234. I don't believe I am able to unblock you myself, as this requires special permissions, and is an unblock request I've not encountered before. The advice for you to follow to request an IP block exemption via UTRS can be found at WP:IPEXEMPTCONDITIONS. Hope this helps. Nick Moyes (talk) 21:32, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Nick Moyes I unplugged the router to fix the issue. Hope this is not against the rules? Shorouq★The★Super★ninja2 (talk) 21:46, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If by doing so it means that you were then dynamically allocated a different IP address, and that you're no longer blocked from the original IP address, then "No". I see nothing wrong in that whatsoever! Sounds like problem solved, which is great. It could return, of course, should you ever get allocated a blocked address in future. But you'll know what to do then, I guess. 😂 Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 21:54, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page discussion at 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine

[edit]

Your edits today at 2022 Russian invasion were undone today because the previous editor had already opened Talk page discussion under the Wikipedia policy for BRD. All editors are invited to participate in the discussion on the Talk page there in order to determine consensus for the section you edited. ErnestKrause (talk) 23:38, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Both of the sections on Peace negotiations which you have added were undone because there were active discussions about these additions on the Talk page in two different sections of the Talk page. Yesterday I removed one of them and today I have removed the second one which I've just noticed you had also added while Talk page was still in progress. All editors are invited to participate in the Talk page discussion until consensus is established. This is in order to follow Wikipedia policy for WP:BRD. ErnestKrause (talk) 11:56, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please stop editing your talk page comments after they have been replied to? Slatersteven (talk) 13:15, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
