Draft for Lead of 2024 United States election
[edit]I am trying to shorten the current lead, but there is so little to the Harris/Walz section. I think we need to add more on them as the lead can't be all about Trump/Vance. If you have suggestions leave them down below, but please don't add them right away, till they have been discussed fully. I removed a lot of the stuff on Trump cause I think that belongs in a different section in the article, not in a summary of the election. Thank you for reading the draft! - Im still giving the whole thing a reading, but I would say 3 things so far from my perspective:
- 1) The whole thing shouldnt be about Trump, but as the winner (and in a historic way that also seems to have had a coattail-effect down ballot) he should take the center stage.
- 2) Slight edit to clarify he was running for non-consecutive re-election. To many of us, it may seem redundant to do so, but for others it could cause confusion...especially when there are so many names and moving parts to this complex election cycle.
- 3) Highly recommend a slight edit to the assassination attempts part. I expect that is given more detailed attention later in the article, but I believe due to how the first in Butler was historical in 3 different ways (first POTUS (current or former) shot since Regan in 1981, first Presidential candidate shot on campaign trail since Wallace in 1972, and first former POTUS shot running for re-election since Theodore Roosevelt in 1912), I think it is important to specify he was SHOT in an assassination attempt, and maybe either just briefly mention the second attempt or leave it for later in the page since the second attempt is universally accepted as being much less relevant.
- Again, still reading so I might add more here, but thats what Im almost immediately seeing. TheRazgriz (talk) 14:57, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, already something else. I think references to his prior impeachments from his first term are undue, at least in the lede. As is the mention of Vance being the first millennial VP...I doubt if I look at previous years pages we will see anything about which VP was the first Boomer VP. - For Harris/Waltz Id say it could be wise to briefly add that this was the second time a major party had selected a female as candidate for President. after the primary nomination of Hillary Clinton in 2016, both belonging to the Democratic party (Im sure there is a better way to word that in, but thats basically how Id write it down off-top)
- It could be a smart move to contrast her results with the results of both Biden/Harris (previous election) and with Clinton/Kaine (prior election to that, and first major party female presidential candidate vs Kamala being the second and of the same party). - Thank you for your comments, I just moved around the current lead, I have not yet added to it. I agree there needs to be more about Harris/Waltz. I will remove the impeachments and millennial, as I agree that should be said some where else. To me the lead should give a quick over view of the election, not an in depth review of the election. If you wish to make the changes that you stated you may. I am not sure how much time I can spend on WP this coming week. User Page Talk Contributions Sheriff U3 21:49, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
