December 2018 clarification

@ScottDavis: This list could be of great assistance to editors, particularly if any blue links that are not Tasmanian localities could be marked as such once this has been determined. I have added strikeout to Abbotsham for this purpose. Are you OK with this? Downsize43 (talk) 01:39, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Just for fun I looked at each blue link for A, B and C. Only the following are in Tas:

• Caveside (has a redirect from Caveside, Tasmania)
• Clarence Point (has a redirect)
• Cradle Mountain (a mountain)

Hi @Downsize43: I recently reviewed A, B and C I think. My review process is:

1. check each blue link, and
   • delete it if it is either a redirect to place, Tasmania (my preferred style, but no longer mandated by WP:NCAUST)
   • if it is an article about a place in Tasmania, check that there is a redirect at place, Tasmania, then delete the blue link
   • If it is a redirect page, check that there is an entry for the place in Tasmania (make the entry if the article exists or has other red links to place, Tasmania), then delete the link here
   • If it is an article about something else, check that there is a hatnote to either a disambiguation page (and check that as above) or to the Tasmanian article if it exists
2. Eventually, check whether there are place, Tasmania articles for the red links, and if there are, create the redirect from place and delete the link here.

The outcome would be that if I completely swept the list, all of the remaining links would need place, Tasmania created, and the red ones need a redirect (or occasionally disambiguation page) made at the short name to help find it. When you say that the rest of the Cs and Abbotsham are not in Tasmania, do you mean that the article at that name is about something that is not in Tasmania, or do you mean that my source data was bad, and there is not a town/bounded locality in Tasmania with that name?

Google maps shows a boundary for Abbotsham, Tasmania, it looksl ike I made the redirect at Clarence Point, Tasmania a couple of weeks ago but forgot to delete the link here when I had checked it (done now). Scott Davis ^Talk 12:21, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

@ScottDavis: Sorry I missed the bit about deleting blue links so will remove strikeout from Abbotsham. If I read you right you would create a redirect page for Abbotsham, Devon before deleting your blue link - is this really necessary?

I have added some from the ABC groups to disambiguation pages (eg. Carlton, Tasmania),while others are already in disambiguation pages, so I guess I should now delete their blue links!!

Some Localities that should show as redlinks on your list are missing, eg. West Kentish, Tasmania. Any idea why?

@Downsize43: I would not bother to make redirects for articles that are not in Australia, and these days wouldn't move them out of the way to create disambiguation pages in their place (these lists were established when there were still reasonable-sized places without articles). I tend to leave disambiguation pages on the list until there is really an article for the Australian place to avoid the risk that someone else comes along to clean up disambig pages and deletes redlinked entries. The lists were not quality checked when they were new, so it's possible the source was missing West Kentish. It's also possible that it is a "newly" gazetted placename that didn't exist when the source for this list was created (it has only been the last 20 years or so that governments have insisted that the entire state is covered by an unambiguous partition of placenames). Feel free to add it to this list, or even better, create the article West Kentish, Tasmania with a redirect from West Kentish when you get time. Scott Davis ^Talk 23:17, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

@ScottDavis: Thanks for all that. I have fixed all the ones that I recently created, and removed them from your list. I have also added some to the A group, so it now matches the unlinked names on List of localities in Tasmania. May take a while to get to West Kentish :) Cheers. There's a similar page for every state, but I haven't maintained most of them recently, there will be lots of blue links that can be removed when I (or anyone else) next feel like checking them.
