No, the ignore box isn't ticked. I have {{User jedi}} under the Find column.--Andeh 15:03, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean either. :S --Andeh 15:09, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Template appropriation

I consider your appropriation of the template User medieval spherical earth into your own personal user space to be arrogant and vandalism. Your claim that this reflects the German userbox solution is patently false. The GUBS says:

Non-controversial userbox templates can stay in template space until someone finds a reason/excuse to move them.

There were no controversies arising from the Medieval Spherical Earth template. I don't know what your motive is but I notice from looking at your userspace that you have appropriated a large number of other non-controversial templates into you personal userspace where they cannot be found by people who may wish to use them. Further, as I see the etiquete of Wikipedia, it would be an intrusion into your personal space for anyone but you to edit them.

Further when templates are moved the GUBS says:

They are "adopted" and archived on subpages by willing users. This should be done using the Move command to move it to a page in your userspace, keeping the redirect so that existing transclusions are not broken.

You did not keep the redirect but instead created a link to a different template advertising the German Userbox Solution.

I request that you revert this vandalism immediately. --SteveMcCluskey 23:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi SteveMcCluskey,

Obviously, we have different viewpoints on WP:GUS. My action to userfy user medieval spherical earth was neither arrogant nor vandalism. This box was in the "science and religion" section of Wikipedia:Userboxes/Religion, which was deleted. [1]. When I found someone had listed it, along with a series of similar boxes at User:Rfrisbie/Userboxes/Religion#Science and religion, I moved it as one of many boxes under the "controversial" religion topic. Keep in mind, even boxes like {{User:UBX/male}}, User:Xoloz/UBX/User Vegetarian, User:Ashley Y/Userbox/Christian, and User:Michaelphill/Userboxes/HondaCivics have been moved to userspace, showing the definition of "controversy" is not clear cut.

As far as finding boxes, everything listed at User:Rfrisbie/Userbox is included in User:Rfrisbie/Userboxes, which is referenced at the main userspace catalog, User:GRBerry/Userbox migration and navigation template User:UBX/Userboxes/General Nav. These are the main avenues for finding boxes moved due to and listed at WP:GUS.

As far as etiquette goes, Ownership and editing of pages in the user space clearly, states, "As a tradition, Wikipedia offers wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit. However, pages in user space still do belong to the community..." (empahsis added) I also explicitly welcome others to edit my usebox pages, e.g., "You are welcome to add and edit userboxes as subpages here, as long as you honor all applicable policies and guidelines." (User:Rfrisbie/Userbox) and "You are welcome to edit any of these directory pages, as long as you honor all applicable policies and guidelines." (User:Rfrisbie/Userboxes)

As far as the move process goes, I used the procedure as it is emerging at Category talk:Wikipedia GUS userboxes. The template, Template:User GUS UBX to, has been used on thousands of user pages as a tool to manage the userbox migration process.

By now I'm sure you know I will not be reverting this move. Of course, you always have the option to do this yourself, or even move the box to your own userspace. In any event, thank you for your sincere feedback. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 02:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Rfrisbie,

I had glanced at the great userbox debate a while back, and as I read it then the consensus was that it was alright for a person to create a userbox template in template space (as long as it was labled as a userbox), or in his own user space.

The agenda which you and your colleagues have been pushing, despite a lack of consensus on the Wikipedia:May Userbox policy poll, is to create a single catalogue of userboxes in user space. The rejected policy would, at least, have had the merit of creating a single userbox subspace within user space; your ad hoc implementation is scattering userboxes all over the individual userboxes of users who take it upon themselves to fundamentally privatize what had previously been a shared common resource.

I still note that your use of the template Template:User GUS UBX to ignored the point of the discussion in WP:GUS that "Redirections shouldn't be deleted if they are still in use (unbypassed). <<When they become orphaned, remove them.>>" This template was still in use, and apparently your application of the Template:User GUS UBX to was done at the same time as the move, with no effor to maintain the redirects. I note that in your list of recent edits you seem to be manually bypassing the redirects rather than just leaving Template:User GUS UBX to; this seems to be an improvement.

Personally, I don't consider your action worth wasting any more of my time over. We've got an encyclopedia to write -- and I suggest you get on with writing it too. --SteveMcCluskey 13:27, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

We all choose how to spend own time. Thank you. Rfrisbietalk 17:36, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

WP:GUS?

Hi, I noticed you edited my UserPage with this summary:

Bypassing redirects. See WP:GUS, Replaced: User zodiac:Virgo → User:Rfrisbie/Userbox/Zodiac:Virgo, using AWB

Now I don't mind, but I was just curious as to what the German userbox solution was. I read the article for WP:GUS, but I'm still not sure exactly what it means.

Thanks! --Thrashmeister 14:50, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Thrashmeister,
The other discussions section on that article lists most of the related pages. You also can look at Category: Wikipedia userbox discussions. Basically, the "userbox wars" were/are about what should be allowed in "project space" (e.g., template and wikipedia space). Jimbo has said divisive, advocacy, and POV boxes really shouldn't be there. Since no "consensus" policy exists on how that should be handled, GUS emerged as an informal process. It's not perfect, but at least most of the bickering and deletion/edit warring has subsided. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 17:58, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Your userbox media bak

Okay...I have fixed the table, substr the ones I found that were not, and removed a user template category. Now, you might want to remove all the Wikipedian categories, just to keep those listings clear. Keep the main media page in the Wikipedian categories, but this page really doesn't need to be in those categories in my humble opinion. Some of those substr made the page HUGE! All of the code from some userboxes was substr again and again. Especially the ones with the #switch: function. Hope this helped. - LA @ 22:24, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, that was a "quick and dirty" move after a new wave of boxes "magically disappearing"...part of the price to pay for an uncertain and "dangerous" wikiworld. :-) Rfrisbietalk 22:29, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Category:Lists of substituted user templates may be better, if that is what subst stands for. But is that cat really needed if you are the only one doing it?
As for userboxes disappearing, I know one of the culprits and am furious. You want to help bring 2 back from the grave? - LA @ 22:30, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
That group of three cats originally was for any type of userspace archive/directory, they're just a bit long-winded. "Real soon now," I might get around to paring down the backup pages to just basic info, including original ParserFunctions, etc. They don't need to be in any cat. I've had good luck with asking Xaosflux to retrieve deleted code. I'm willing to ask if you'd rather not. Rfrisbietalk 01:10, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, if you could voice some support here to reinstate two userboxes which were deleted without first going through the TfD process, I would be grateful. - LA @ 01:19, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Done. Rfrisbietalk 03:06, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Box fixes

Oops. Sorry about ruining the test, although, as you said, it didn't look promising. :) --Joe Sewell 16:57, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

That's okay, there's more on the page. Just consider yourself part of the test! ;-) Rfrisbietalk 17:00, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

This template is protected as a high-risk template, in that it is transcluded on thousands of pages. It would be an attractive target for a big penis picture, etc. While I agree that Cyde certainly has a POV regarding userboxes, I do as well (quite an opposite one of Cyde's at that!). This usage update does seem to be inline with the way WP:GUS is running now, and helps to reinforce that GUS'ing a box should be done via MOVE as opposed to copy-and-paste (so as to preserve the edit history). Changes to this template should be discussed on it's talk page. If you want to change something, list it there, and if no opposes (assuming it's not radical) ping me and I'll put it in for you. — xaosflux Talk 02:27, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

I just counted 1,415 links. If the bots are doing their jobs, it would be much lower. I already commented at the Quick summary and talk page about the original alternative process. Since I seem to be the only one who bypasses redirects right after a move, the change probably is pointless anyway. Rfrisbietalk 02:35, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Bypassing Redirects

OK, I'm rerunning without that setting enabled (it's AWB). alphaChimp laudare 00:02, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm confused. I thought that it was dealt with. alphaChimp laudare 00:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
It should be fine now. alphaChimp laudare 01:19, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I think I'm just going to remove the "{{" and "}}" from the end of my find/replaces. That should do the trick. alphaChimp laudare 01:35, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia in Quenya

Hello, Rfrtsbie! There is a voting at Meta for opening a Wikipedia in Quenya. Perhaps you would like to vote: here.
Meanwhile, there is a test Wikipedia in Quenya started at the Incubator: here. I bet you would like to participate. :)
Hope to see you there. Btw, you've got a nice user page! Well done! --Djordje D. Bozovic 12:49, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the offer and comment, my position would be "neutral to oppose" so I'll pass on voting. Good luck. Rfrisbietalk 13:07, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh!

Ooops, ok I will move then instead of replacing them from here on out. Well still the end result was the same. Æon Insane Ward 22:23, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Not quite, the history and talk pages aren't transferred that way. You might want to ask an admin for help deleting the pages for some re-dos. Rfrisbietalk 22:27, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah I see, I about forgot that part ok thanks for pointing that out page histories need to go over to hence move not replace. Æon Insane Ward 22:32, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Have you seen Category:Wikipedia GUS userboxes? I expect Xaosflux or Cyde would be willing to help get these boxes back on track. Rfrisbietalk 22:40, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I will start the process. Thanks again for the help Æon Insane Ward 00:10, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Cool.

"Not" moves

Could you take a look at this (User talk:Aeon1006#GUS moves) and decide how to proceed? Thanks. Rfrisbietalk 23:11, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Personally, I wouldn't worry about these tooo much. it looks like Aeon is on track now, is there a GFDL issue, possibly. It comes down to if the original userbox template contained enough original prose to require GFDL protections. When these are done wrong any author can simply cut and paste the history to the talk page of the new article, as it is not required under GFDL to preserve WHAT each author contributed, just who they were. If the box has any sort of wiki-history (e.g. user christian) we should do a history merge for wiki historical reasons though. — xaosflux Talk 00:32, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree he seems to have the hang of it now. Rfrisbietalk 00:35, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Zodiac

Hey, I just noticed that the zodiac templates have all been moved. Is it time to call Cyde? Mira 00:55, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm simply observing the alignments of the stars on this one. Who will blink first?!

Rfrisbietalk 01:20, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I almost asked about the constantly changing page.

I like this one, it's very clean and neat. Mira 02:05, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Religion userboxes

Since you appear to have taken over the religion user boxes, could you add my Unity Church userbox to your page. Also, the no body mofication one, since the whole beliefs page is gone. I want people t see they exist, since my user page probably isn't seeing much traffic.Scottandrewhutchins 17:27, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I haven't taken over anything. I'm just helping implement WP:GUS. Feel free to include boxes to any of the directories listed at User:Rfrisbie/Userboxes Rfrisbietalk 17:31, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes

Just a random thought that found me while I was on your page: What if there was a user created called "box," and all userboxes were subpages of that 'user'? Technically they would be in userspace, but would be easier to figure out for people trying to use them. I'm just thinking, it's hard to remember to type in {{User:Rfrisbie/cat lover}} for one and {{User:Pumpkin/dog lover}} for the next, but it would be a lot easier if they were all under {{User:box/(templatename)}}

Sorry for rambling, I'm trying to write it down while I still remember.

I've been creating userboxes for the Ancient Egypt WikiProject, and I created them as templates before I remembered they were supposed to be in userspace. Off I go move them now (grumble)... — Editor at Large ( talk) 20:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Wait, I've looked around, and do userboxes for WikiProjects need to be in userspace or is that just opinionated userboxes? I'm confused. Too many conflicting messages here... I'll leave them for now, just in case. Sorry for bothering you, but you seem to be much more knowledgeable about this stuff than I am!— Editor at Large ( talk) 21:08, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I thought someone did something like that...  Earth KIN (Talk) 21:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

That User:Boxes idea is a good one, IMHO. Lots of people have tried it with different "proxy" names, but admins keep on blocking and/or deleting them. For some reason, they just don't want to let that happen. I've never really followed their logic behind it either. I believe WikiProject boxes as project subpages are very safe where they are. (I just made one today myself.) Established ones in template space are quite safe too. Probably "one" new one in template space would pass Cyde's gate. I wouldn't bother moving project boxes until they get into trouble. However, I would put a backup somewhere in your user space. Rfrisbietalk 01:50, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Category:Wikipedia userboxes

Hey, I was going through and cleaning this out, and I wondered if "your" pages should really be in this category. I went through and removed the other user space pages, but I wanted to ask you about it first because you have so many and they're the closest thing we have to an "official" user space archive. Let me know what you think. —Mira 21:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I suppose you're right. I hadn't really noticed. I'll make the changes, but you have to come up with a new and shorter name for Category:User pages displaying a themed archive of userboxes and corresponding code!

Rfrisbietalk 23:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I knew there'd be a catch...I'll have to think of something.

Mira 00:42, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

My first idea: Category:User space userbox archives and subcategories Category:Themed user space userbox archives and Category:Original user space userbox archives. Shorter, but still quite long. Maybe a start, though. —Mira 01:08, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Scrolling toc

Well, I don't know how to explain it exactly, so here's just the code for everything:

<div style="width: 250px; font-size: 96%; float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; background: #8FBC8F; padding: 4px; border: 1px solid #3D9140; -moz-border-radius-topright: 10px; -moz-border-radius-topleft: 10px;">

<div style="background: #E0EEE0; padding: 1px; -moz-border-radius-topright: 10px; -moz-border-radius-topleft: 10px; text-align: center; margin-bottom: 4px;">status: {{User:Sango123/Status}}</div>

<div style="height: 400px; width: 250px; overflow: auto;">__TOC__</div></div></nowiki>

You can adjust it for your own use if you'd like. I love what you've done with your userspace, by the way. :) Sango123 03:31, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

I'll play around with it and ask for your help if I goof it up too much. So, where do you "hide" this code, if you don't mind sharing. I couldn't find it. By the way, if you haven't noticed, I like your designs so much I linked a lot of your layouts on my resources page so I could "borrow" some of that cool stuff. Rfrisbietalk 03:49, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

It's up and running. It works like a charm! Thanks again!

Rfrisbietalk 05:37, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[Tries out the smilies] It looks great!

I noticed your resources page already and thought I saw a pattern in your design choices. And I hide my code in transcluded subpages to make it harder to find and "borrow". Cheers, Sango123 21:14, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Cool. For some reason, I couldn't find the toc transclusion

(yes, I know how to find all of them ) so I thought they might be in your css somewhere. Anyway, it looks great! Now...I think you should lend your talents to fixing up the yucky color schemes at the Categorical index, etc., that use the reference page header! Thanks again! Rfrisbietalk 21:29, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, I actually haven't done anything, but do the color schemes look better now? ;) Sango123 14:12, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
That's much better! Your good vibrations must have done the trick!

Version 1.0 assessment basics

Hi Rfrisbie. Interesting WikiProject you've got there. Concerning your request for information for how the bot operates, there's some detailed instructions here at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Using the bot. If you need any further help tweaking your WikiProject feel free to throw me a request for assistance. -- Longhair 09:55, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, one question for now is how do we add comments the bot can find for the grading tables? Rfrisbietalk 13:51, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Have you been using another WikiProject as an example? I've just tonight added support for the Australia WikiProject to use comments. Perhaps you'd like to look over the recent history of the {{WP Australia}} template for an example where comment functionality is being added? Here's the actual diff where the comment functionality is being added (ignore the category tweak at the top of the edit, the actual code insertion is further down). Also create a category called Category:Color_articles_with_comments for the bot to action the new code. I'm about to retire for the day here, but if you run into any problems, let me know. -- Longhair 13:55, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
I copied everything from other projects!

I saw one example, but I couldn't see how it worked. I'll look at your examples later today. Thanks again. Rfrisbietalk 14:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Copy and copy alike. I liked your user and talk page design so much, I adapted it for myself. Thanks :) -- Longhair 00:35, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Cool! That was quick! You might want to give Lbmixpro and Sango123 some shout outs for their inspirations.

Rfrisbietalk 02:23, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your tweak at my talk page. I was sitting here wondering where to move that busy box. Problem solved. Kudos will follow once I'm happy with the final design. -- Longhair 05:04, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
It's looking good!

Userbox help

Hi, I tried to create some userboxes for the Chinese elements, but I can't get the categories to work. Could you take a look at User:Jor/Element:Earth and maybe explain why my userpage doesn't show up in Category:Earth element Wikipedians after adding it to the page? I copied the markup from your zodiac boxes and don't see where my error is. -- Jordi· 10:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Jordi, everything was set up just fine. I'm guessing you added or changed the userbox category after you put the box on your page. For transclusions to "work" properly after a change, the target page has to be "touched" for the wikisoftware to register everything. I "edited" your page and it showed up in the category.

Regards, Rfrisbietalk 12:29, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey thanks, that explains it. -- Jordi· 12:49, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

You don't know how happy I am that someone has finally taken an intrest of some kind in that article. I listed it at requests for expansion some time ago (July 5). Maybe now that it has been assessed someone will expand it. ~ ONUnicorn (Talk / Contribs) 18:54, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi ONUnicorn, I'm glad you're so happy to please!

I just added the assessment template, so I thought I'd help with some quick sorting. Unfortunately, I doubt I can add much to the article itself. But like you said, maybe this will perk up more interest in it. Regards, Rfrisbietalk 19:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
