[edit]

Hi! Did I hear right that you were interested in returning to The Signpost? If yes, let's get you connected with @Go Phightins! regarding next steps. Happy holidays!! --Rosiestep (talk) 03:54, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rosiestep: Hey! I left a message on his talk page but last time I checked there was no response. Edit: Nevermind he did respond. → Call me Hahc21 04:10, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I may not be at the Signpost anymore but it's awesome that you're back! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 04:24, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ed! You were the first one I had in mind when I decided to try and rejoin the Signpost. Then I saw that your name was no longer there. Sad moment. How have you been? → Call me Hahc21 04:39, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty good! I'm working with the WMF's Communications team, running their blog. It's definitely a lot different, but it at least allows me to do something I believe in. :-) How about yourself? Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 06:45, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ed: I've been doing a lot of things. I joined the Dota 2 wiki and helped doing a major redesign, moved on to a new apartment, started an electronics degree, and so on. I never imagined I could spend almost a whole year without dedicating at least an hour a day to Wikipedia. It was refreshing and allowed me to come back with a new perspective. → Call me Razr Nation 20:58, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's great to hear—and at a good time, as the Signpost is regaining its step and could definitely use someone like you. :-) I tried to DOTA 2 once for about 50 minutes ... could never get into it. Good luck on the degree! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 05:34, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wanting to Return

[edit]

Dear Hahc21,

It's me, Duxwing, the copy-editor AN/I restricted in 2014. I write you because you wrote the restriction and because it seems to have expired, but the preceding ordeal so frightened and confused me that I fear editing without assurance that my restriction has, indeed, been lifted.

The restriction comprised three parts, two temporary and one indefinite. The two temporary restrictions were a six-month prohibition against copy-editing scientific and mathematical articles, alongside a general three-month copy-editing prohibition. More than six months obviously having passed, both these temporary restrictions would appear to have expired but for an uncertainty about the indefinite one, an order to receive mentorship. Before you drafted the restriction, the consensus appeared to be that, "should the current mentoring relationship end prior to a successful completion," my mentorship would have begin afresh, and both these temporary restrictions would be reinstated, and their durations fully restored, and that I could not edit whatsoever until my mentorship were done, and that the temporary restrictions would begin only after the mentorship.

While I appreciate that my delinquency presumably needed deterring, and that this snap-back consensus would serve that end, I noticed that, should I not have made the molehill of my restriction into a mountain (my restriction notice does not mention any snap-back besides the need for an AN/I-approved replacement mentor) this snap-back provision could also have unintended consequences. For example, if my mentorship were long and my mentor departed just before its end, then all the restrictions would resume, and I would need to undergo mentorship from the beginning. This unintended consequence could turn a brief exclusion into an effective and permanent expulsion.

Precisely this unintended consequence has come to pass. My mentor, Newyorkadam, appears to lack time for my mentorship, which has, due to interruptions, lasted almost two years. I will ask him if he can finish mentoring me, and if I must ask AN/I to review this case and try to get another mentor approved, await the restrictions' end, and resume editing after another year, then I will. But the first rule about AN/I, as the saying goes, is not to go to AN/I, and so, if Newyorkadam cannot mentor me, I would really rather not. Instead, with your approval and review, I would rather find another mentor among Wikipedia's mentor list, finish my mentorship with him, and resume editing immediately thereafter.

Would this alternative remedy satisfy the spirit, though not the letter, of my restriction, and could you approve it?

Sincerely, Duxwing (talk) 21:58, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Duxwing: I'm no longer an administrator, but I will provide you with a response as if I still was: Both restrictions were put in place to stop an issue from becoming bigger. The mentoring was supposed to be done by the time the restrictions expired. Since the mentorship took too long, we cannot force you to start over with yet another mentor, facing the risk of going through two additional years of bureaucracy. I just checked Wikipedia:Editing restrictions and your name is no longer there, which means that you are free to resume editing, and have been since quite a while ago. if the problems persist, I'm confident that the community will take a look at it again. Regards. → Call me Hahc21 05:36, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Hach21: Thanks, Hahc21. I've missed this place. :) Duxwing (talk) 07:49, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Duxwing: I wish we could have solved this earlier but I took a year-long wikibreak. → Call me Razr Nation 20:56, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closing of Edmund Janniger

[edit]

Hi, re. your non-admin closure at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edmund Janniger, please note that closure by non-admins is only not allowed absent any contentious debate among participants (WP:NAC). This was not the case in this AfD where at least seven editors argued for delete - so there was clearly no consensus for "keep". I have reverted your edits. kashmiri TALK 00:23, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Razr Nation's closure was absolutely in accordance with WP:NACD as he is an experienced editor. Only an administrator can reopened a deletion discussion. ("Non-administrators should, as a rule, only close discussions if they are fairly experienced editors, and have participated at previous deletion discussions...Decisions are subject to review and may be reopened by an administrator.") I have reverted the misguided steps taken by Kashmiri, who is not an administrator. Thanks. Cachets687 (talk) 01:30, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Cachets687: There was no consensus reached at AfD, so closing as "keep" was certainly wrong and was not indicative of much experience in closing deletion discussions. Your revert now forces me to file ANI. kashmiri TALK 01:44, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@kashmiri: I made an analysis and reached a conclusion, which I wrote in the closing statement of the AfD. As a former administrator, I have closed many AfDs without much issues, so I think I have more than enough experience on this matter. I trust my judgement when making such calls. I did consider closing it with no consensus as a result, but I considered that the arguments presented to keep it were certainly stronger. Anyways, I am happy that this matter has been resolved already. However, two recommendations: (1) discuss first, revert later. This is the standard through which issues are solved. You did not even allow me to respond before you reverted my edits and escalated the issue. (2) Don't go to AN/I right away. There are several other steps you have to take first, such as discussing the matter on my talk page, with my participation. Cheers. → Call me Razr Nation 11:45, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yes, discussion is normally the way to go and ANI should be the last step. However, experience shows that AfD's once closed are very hard to reopen at much later date, so things needed to move fast. My ANI report, which I filed with hesitation and only after another user reverted me, was not against anyone specific (I made sure not to mention or link to your username at ANI) and apologies if it could appear as personal. And true, it was only later that I saw you had been an admin previously and have experience. What I objected to was closure with consensus (which "keep" essentially is) when policy-based consensus was actually nowhere in sight at that stage.
Anyhow, things are now resolved, aren't they? I still have problems with the article which I consider a promo. The boy was first promoted in the field of medicine by his father, who added the fourteen year old boy's name as "co-author" on his (father's) academic papers, shortly before the son decided he is not interested in medicine (acc. to press). The father is also heavily promoted by the son as "world-renowned dermatologist", and I will need to take a close look at his separate article here on WP. Anyhow, thanks for your well-intended contribution and sorry again. Regards, — kashmiri TALK 12:51, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:VenezuelaParliamentary2015.png needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:VenezuelaParliamentary2015.png appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Razr Nation/2016}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 04:52, 31 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

I was wondering who is looking after the Triple Crown noms. The guy who usually does hasn't been active for 3 months. I asked Crisco who else was familiar and he said you. If you're too busy, then I don't mind taking over from it if you show me how. I'd like to keep it going.  — Calvin999 11:23, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Calvin999: Did somebody take charge of the Triple Crown after I left in December 2014? (I am hahc21 in case you don't remember me). I am still coming back to speed so it'll take me some time before I can take back all my responsibilities. If you don't mind waiting I could take a look later this month. → Call me Razr Nation 16:36, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I assume it was User:Freikorp, but he hasn't been active since November. I only ask because there is a nomination pending, not mine but someone else.  — Calvin999 17:31, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Presidents of Venezuela, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Portuguesa. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

FAC voluntary mentoring scheme

[edit]

During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.

Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. We anticipate that the scheme will have a trial run for a few months before we appraise its effectiveness. Your participation will be most welcome.
