Finally responded to the "reference is not a verb" thingy, if you want to see it. ~NJ

Wedding as situation

[edit]

Just a minor point of pedantry: whether in the interrogative or relative mood, it's perfectly acceptable to use the adverb "where" in reference to a situation, such as a wedding, funeral or stay in hospital; it does not merely apply to fixed locations. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 09:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know it's acceptable, but WP allows for considerations of style and preference. While "where" is grammatically permissible, it is stylistically odd. No criticism was meant by the edit; I even complimented the previous one. Peeper 11:41, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't take it as a criticism. I'm merely pointing out that one is no more preferable to the other — either grammatically or stylistically (your contention that it is "odd" is not backed up by modern usage, stretching back over more than one century). --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 11:49, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, OK. I'm not sure what the point of your comment is. We're all here to improve Wikipedia in style as well as content, and my edit was a very insignificant contribution. If there is a problem, change it back. It's hardly worth the effort. Peeper 17:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
