Recent changes
- Word-level diffs now work in longer paragraphs. [1]
- Interactive maps now have a frame by default. This is to make them look like other multimedia objects. This affects all Wikivoyages, the Catalan, Hebrew, Macedonian Wikipedias and Meta. [2]
- When you preview the MediaWiki:Captcha-ip-whitelist page it will show a validation output of the listed IP addresses instead of the list of addresses only. This can help you to identify if your whitelist rules will work or not. [3]
Changes this week
- You will be able to use
<maplink>
on all Wikipedias. It creates a link to a full screen map. [4][5] - Sometimes when you mention another user they don't get a notification. You will be able to get a notification when you successfully send out a mention to someone or be told if they did not get a notification. This will be opt-in. [6][7]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 September. It will be on all wikis from 8 September (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 6 September at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The CheckUser extension could work differently in the future. There is a Request for Comments to figure out how. [8]

TfD for all citation translation templates?
Would you consider starting a mass TfD for all of the citation translation templates listed in the first half of Template:Non-English citation templates? I am not comfortable enough with the TfD process to jump through all of the hoops.
I believe that all of these templates should be kept but made into subst-only templates. I think we might need an ongoing daily or weekly bot run to process them, since they are usually inside of ref tags and new instances are added to en.WP periodically. Thanks for considering this work. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:52, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: Let's see what the outcome at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 September 8#Template:Internetquelle is. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:32, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
C. S. Peirce external links
Here's another one for you: Template:C. S. Peirce external links. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:42, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork: For TfD, you mean? Why not nominate it yourself? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:33, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
planet math template.
Hi, I'm not sure what to say, You broke yet another template -- in this case, all of the uses of Template:planetmath reference are being displayed as REDIRECTTemplate:PlanetMath instead of being in their proper form. I understand that you are trying to do cleanup of some form, but running around and wontonly causing damage is not acceptable behavior on Wikipedia. I believe that you should engage in some discussion at Wikipedia:Wikiproject Mathematics before engaging in any more of this kind of activity. 67.198.37.16 (talk) 07:16, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Please read WP:AGF. The PlanetMath redirects should be fixed by a bot shortly, if not already. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:42, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Well, they would have been, had you not canvassed another editor to revert me. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:33, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
Typo in category name?
Was Category:Templates that wrap cite web intended? (As opposed to Category:Templates that wrap Cite web). – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:24, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: Template:Cite web has a capital "C". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:29, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- Right. But your wrapper appears to tag some pages with a lower-case "c", hence the red category name. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:01, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- Not my wrapper, but I've created a redirect for the former category. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:05, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- I don't think that works. There are still items in the lower-case category. I think the template needs to be fixed somehow. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:30, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- I've already requested someone do that, using AWB. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:32, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Extension:Kartographer
I don't know what it is, but you made some sort of typo at {{GeoTemplate}}. When I clicked an instance of {{coord}}, I was taken to [9], where the relevant section said:
- View this location in
- <maplink> problems:
- Attribute "latitude" has an invalid value
- Attribute "longitude" has an invalid value
- Attribute "zoom" has an invalid value
, Google Maps, in OpenStreetMap, or select one of the services listed below:
Basically the same thing can be viewed at [10]. Because it was visibly not working (even though I'm experienced here, I thought everything had broken; I don't want it to confuse casual readers), I've reverted your addition of the link to the new service. Of course, this is merely because it's not working properly; please put it back once you've figured out the error. Nyttend (talk) 13:46, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Problem with AnomieBOT
Greetings. AnomieBOT is misbehaving by not correctly substituting some templates. This is because the templates contain comments of something like this. I was told that you are to blame. Can you please check? -- Magioladitis (talk) 04:46, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Instead of AnomieBot should should have used Wikipedia:AWB/RTP. Now we have ~500 broken templates with a lot of empty parameters too. -- Magioladitis (talk) 04:57, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Wildscreen
Hi Andy, Wildscreen has appeared on the Bristol cleanup list as someone added an "advertisement banner" to it after edits by a user called User:Wildscreen. As your name is on the talk page as "Wikipedia Outreach Ambassador" to ARKive I din't want to dive in and start changing it or adding templated comments to users talk pages if you had appropriate contacts there to have a quiet word in someones ear about WP:COI, Wikipedia:Username policy, WP:NPOV etc. Could you take a look?— Rod talk 20:08, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Rodw: Late reply, sorry, but thanks for the heads up. My residency with Wildscreen was five years ago, and though most of the people I knew there have moved on, I keep in touch. I've detagged the article, since it seems to have been cleaned up already, and advised them about the account's user name. The edits in question were made several months ago; let's see what transpires. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:05, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Ping
phab:T109915 should be coming soon to a wiki near you. It looked like the sort of thing that would interest you. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:37, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:20, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
Alma mater occidere
Do you agree that at Template talk:Infobox person, there is consensus to migrate the data in "alma_mater" to education? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 23:44, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Re the discussion at Help talk:Citation Style 1, do you intend to put forward any firm proposals in relation to that template? If not, I'd like to put forward a few myself. Mjroots (talk) 06:40, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 20
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kenneth Chance, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dutch. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:52, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
