Hi there. As a contributor to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ogi Ogas, you may be interested to know I have re-nominated the page for deletion. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ogi Ogas (2nd nomination). Robofish (talk) 16:30, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for this notification, especially as we are not of the same opinion regarding the article in question. I wish more editors behaved this way. I'm not going to comment of this AfD as my viewpoint already is represented. --Pgallert (talk) 06:46, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Help requested

{{helpme}} Refering to the goings-on at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Criminal_creology#Criminal_creology, what should be done to stop the creation of single-purpose accounts in that matter, be they puppets of meat or sock? I looked at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations, but this seems completely over the top, considering WP:DUCK. I am also not confident to accuse anyone of sockpuppetry, as this could well be canvassing of some sort. Thanks, Pgallert (talk) 11:27, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I was going to raise the same issue, but thought that I'd see what Pgallert thought first. Several users have commented at the above AfD, and in six cases, their only contributions were to that AfD. These six are: Nicereply (talk · contribs) Phoalphabet (talk · contribs) Iamamerican (talk · contribs) Bybliotheca (talk · contribs) Laoun (talk · contribs) Petrahanna (talk · contribs). --Redrose64 (talk) 11:54, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I've tagged the comments in the AfD and added {{notaballot}}, the admin who closes the debate will bear these in mind. If you like I can consider opening an SPI case for you (let me know if you'd like me too), however, I'm leaning towards suspecting this is WP:MEAT, rather than WP:SOCK, so you may wish to consider creating a section at AN/I. Kind regards, SpitfireTally-ho! 11:57, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Looking at the user creation log, each of these six was created just after the previous one had last commented at the AfD. No way is this coincidence. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:11, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Good catch, redrose, and thank you both for responding. I'll try to open an SPI, then. Never did that before, just tell me if I did anything wrong. --Pgallert (talk) 13:44, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Nope, opened fine, except for the level two header, which I see you have remedied yourself SpitfireTally-ho! 14:53, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I tried to submit it without header, it gave me a warning. Next time I'll know. --Pgallert (talk) 14:55, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

List of Schools in the Philippines

I nominated list of schools in the Philippines for deletion because the list consists of mainly colleges and universities in the Philippines. There is already an article for a list of colleges and universities and there is no need to put such an article inasmuch as the number of schools in the country is overwhelming, be it an elementary school, high school, college, or university. It is better to make a list of high schools in the Philippines than list of schools in a general sense because it will be very vague and confusing. thanks Isko1901 (talk) 04:46, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Isko, I completed the nomination, stating your reasons. You might want to look at the discussion here whether I found the right words or not. --Pgallert (talk) 09:15, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Re: File:Flag of the Commonwealth of Nations.svg

As I informed the previous person to leave a message on my talk page, the problem you are seeing is a result of the image in question having been deleted from Commons as a copyright violation. See commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Flag of the Commonwealth of Nations.svg for details.

As I do not have administrator privileges on Commons, I do not have the technical means to reverse this actions. As to potential courses of actions, I see two possibilities. The first is you may place a request at commons:Commons:Undeletion requests asking for the image to be restored. The second possibility is to remove mention of the image from the templates and articles that were broken by this action by Commons administrators. --Allen3 talk 11:33, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Pomona, Namibia

Updated DYK query On March 31, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Pomona, Namibia, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

It does not assert his notability either. Additionally, the article is terrible. Maybe he is known in some obscure circles, and the article just needs to be fixed, but I certainly don't think that he has any notability to assert.--MohammadMosaddeq 06:54, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mohammad, sorry for not making my point clear enough, the speedy deletion request had to be turned down due to a technicality. This technicality is that you chose the wrong deletion process. Speedy deletion is for fast deletion without any discussion, applicable only to very bad cases of vandalism, harassment, or copyright violation. You are free to start another deletion process like proposed deletion or a deletion discussion.
Asserting notability is a phrase that means "The article contains a (reasonably plausible) statement why its subject might be notable" -- this is my interpretation, the policy you can read here. To say, for instance, that Todd Snare has drummed with Kool & the Gang is such a statement. Whether it is true is a different matter altogether. --Pgallert (talk) 07:41, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, I guess he is notable then. Sorry. MohammadMosaddeq 02:09, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Verschieberest

Translation per Wikipedia:TPG#YES: Hi Pgallert, thanks for the message in German. I have often seen articles being kept on en that would have been deleted on de. I didn't know redirects like H.N. Martin that result from a page move are in that group. Referring to your question, disambiguation pages are called Begriffsklärung (BKL) "at our place". To keep a redirect for every abbreviated first name, though, is in my opinion overkill. I would redirect it to Martin (name). Cheers, [Kolja]

Aha, danke. H.N. Martin auf Martin (name) zu verlinken waere − wiederum hier auf en − ausgesprochen unueblich, denn dann waere der Ursprung spezifischer als das Ziel. Gruss zurueck, --Pgallert (talk) 17:23, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Translation per Wikipedia:TPG#YES: Oh, thanks. To redirect H.N. Martin to Martin (name) would − again here on en − be highly unusual because then the source would be more specific than the destination of the redirect. Cheers too, [Pgallert]

Dont Bite

I noticed the message you recently left to Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:ZacharyLassiter_formerly_User:TheZachDOTnet. Please remember: do not bite the newcomers. If you see someone make a common mistake, try to politely point out what they did wrong and how to correct it. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ZacharyLassiter (talkcontribs) 19:10, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the reminder. With all respect, users with an edit history like yours I do intend to bite. Your edits are by no means common mistakes, they are intentional. Sorry for my lack of WP:AGF, and in the future please sign your opinion pieces with four tildes (~~~~), --Pgallert (talk) 22:38, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Trying again

Hello again. On WT:CSD, I have reproposed (after discussion was archived) the "A11" criterion for deletion of how-to articles. I am not including essay articles at this time. Since you are familiar with the topic, I thought I'd let you know so that you could voice your opinion on this. — Timneu22 · talk 15:55, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tim, please don't become too frustrated by the way this discussion goes. New ideas and proposals are always welcome and improve Wikipedia in some way, even if they do not obtain consensus.
The main problem I see with your suggested criterion is that you cannot formally separate the good intentions from the bad ones, unless you want to tag the bad ones as Vandalism. An article like How to operate an ATM is not encyclopedic and should go without wasting the time of the AfD community. An article like How to convert lead into gold is highly relevant and historically significant, just that it should have the title Alchemy.
In my opinion, forbidding the creator to remove {{prod}}, and prodding all HowTos, could solve the problem. --Pgallert (talk) 10:46, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, there's a problem with authors removing PROD. I'm not so sure about "intentions" of the author. The guy who posted how to create a Craig's List Ad likely had good intentions, but that doesn't mean the article should exist more than a few minutes. — Timneu22 · talk 12:19, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Appreciated. You seem to have enough thank you threads on your talk page, so I'll leave it at that. --Pgallert (talk) 09:15, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Help needed

{{helpme|Can someone please help me with the syntax of List of Ferris wheels? {{helpme|Wikitable sortable: Please see my sandbox: Is there a way to exclude the last two lines ("Rejected" and "Total" from the sorting function, so that they always remain at the bottom? Thank you in advance, Pgallert (talk) 12:02, 21 June 2010 (UTC)}}

Unfortunately, there's no way to keep more than one line fixed at the bottom while sorting the rest of the table. You can have rows sorted with each other separately, but then the position of those rows may move when the sort button is pressed. Here is what I mean:
Candidate Party Votes %
Hifikepunye Pohamba SWAPO 611,241 75.25
Hidipo Hamutenya RDP 88,640 10.91
Katuutire Kaura Democratic Turnhalle Alliance 24,186 2.98
Kuaima Riruako NUDO 23,735 2.92
Justus Garoëb United Democratic Front 19,258 2.37
Ignatius Shixwameni All People's Party 9,981 1.23
Henry Mudge Republican Party 9,425 1.16
Benjamin Ulenga Congress of Democrats 5,812 0.72
Usutuaije Maamberua SWANU 2,968 0.37
David Isaacs Democratic Party of Namibia 1,859 0.23
Frans Goagoseb Namibian Democratic Movement for Change 1,760 0.22
Attie Beukes Communist Party of Namibia 1,005 0.12
Rejected ballots 12,363 1.52
Total (turnout ) 812,233 100.00
If you look at the code, you'll see class="sortbottom" before the last two rows, which sorts those rows by themselves at the bottom, but it doesn't fix them in place. Sorting three of the four columns switches the place of the last two rows. I think this is the closest you can get to what you want to do. For more information, you may read Help:Sorting, and please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaao talk 12:31, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

"Assured Way" church article deletion

My apologies on the deletions. I was just upset this morning; as I told someone, I just buried two of my closest friends, and I guess my proverbial "fuse" isn't what it should be. I probably ought to recuse myself from the discussion altogether, until my own personal situation calms down a bit. Hello,

User 75.165.244.115 inserted this sentenced fragment - hence marrying brigham young having the only open gay marriage in mormon history. The page is Moroni (Book of Mormon) Noreference was given for this "marriage." Is this vandalism? Prsaucer1958 (talk) 00:22, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

That depends. Vandalism is the purposeful insertion of falsities. If anon acted in good faith it is not vandalism but you can still revert that edit and ask for sources. BTW, in Moroni (Book of Mormon) someone else already reverted that edit. --Pgallert (talk) 12:59, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Kaushiki article

Hello Pgallert! I wish you can provide any images for the article Kaushiki. I am expanding it. Thanks.--Sainsf<^> (talk) 16:02, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sainsf<^>, basically there are four easy options (and some very difficult ones that require legal knowledge):
  1. Take a picture and upload it -- likely not possible for a goddess ;)
  2. Ask another Wikipedian to take a picture and upload it -- likely also not possible for a goddess
  3. Search at Wikimedia Commons if any media about Kaushiki is available. I did that just now and found nothing, unfortunately.
  4. If you know someone else possesses a picture (and the copyright for it), ask if s/he is ready to donate the picture.
Please do not just search the Internet for any illustrations -- most of them are not free to use and can therefore not be uploaded on Wikipedia.
Hope that helps, Pgallert (talk) 09:10, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it might be possible to find pictures that are in the public domain. Roughly speaking, in India, any copyrighted work comes into the public domain after sixty years have passed since the author died. Other than this you will have to get the permission of the author to release it under any of the open license options Wikipedia provides. I don't think it is likely that there is a historically significant picture that could be used with fair-use rationale, although that is not completely impossible. Thank you.--Forty twoThanks for all the fish! 19:21, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Pgallert asked me via the live help if I could add anything; the above is good advice. Sadly, it is often difficult to find appropriately 'free' licenced images.
A 'google image' search using the advanced options to search only for free content does not show any results.[1]
In addition, searching on flickr using the 'advanced search', and check-marking all three boxes at the end of the 'advanced' screen regarding copyright, also shows nothing [2]; the regular flickr search does [3] - but I don't see anything relevant; if there were, we could try to contact those flicr users, and see if they would consider changing the licence permission to 'CC-BY-SA' so that we could use it - ie use a flickr account, and 'contact this user'.
One remaining option is to use a general "Google" search, and email website owners who have images - if you just explain, and ask them if they could possibly give appropriate permission. You could copy the exact text from user:chzz/help/myboilerplate, and ask them to send that. From a quick Google, I see possible images we could inquire about, perhaps, at http://www.indianetzone.com/12/chamunda.htm and http://sai-ka-aangan.org/religious-books-references/devi-mahatmyam/ - I don't know if those would be appropriate, so you'd need to do a bit more googling, and then ask people.
You could ask on Wikipedia talk:Hinduism-related topics notice board to see if anyone could help, or perhaps on the talk pages of related user groups, e.g. Wikipedia talk:Religion.
It may also be worthwhile asking in Wikipedia:Requested images.
For more help on this subject, see also Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial. And if we can help further, please feel free to use the live help facility yourself. Cheers,  Chzz  ►

Syntax help needed again

{{helpme|How can I escape the Alveolar lateral click (two pipe symbols) in a template? (Details below because it also breaks this template)}} See for instance Oude Ram Afrikaner, last footnote. The title of the web site should read "The History of ||Khauxa!nas" but the pipes break the template. URL encoding with %7C does not work. Two capital "i" will not be displayed correctly under all browser settings.

Would be somewhat important to me because I want to write the ||Khauxa!nas article soon and do not know how to even put a wikilink to it. Thanks, Pgallert (talk) 21:24, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

We have a template for the purpose: putting {{!}} makes a pipe symbol. See this edit.
For more help, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.
The last of those is particularly useful - please try it; pop in now and say hello. Chzz  ►  21:43, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
P.S. Sadly, due to technical restrictions, we cannot have an article titled "||Khauxa!nas". You would have to call it just "Khauxa!nas" and put {{wrongtitle|{{!}}{{!}}Khauxa!nas}} at the top, which would display;

 Chzz  ►  22:00, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Chzz, it is getting a bit more tricky now: In the {{Infobox World Heritage Site}} template on Twyfelfontein, the template trick with {{!!}} and {{!}} does not work. Any idea what to do? -- It is only a minor issue without urgency, though, the Khoekhoe name there is currently written with forward slashes (/Ui-//Ais) which is not too bad. Thanks in advance, Pgallert (talk) 14:52, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Fixed, using <NOWIKI> - see diff.  Chzz  ►  15:09, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
D'oh, so easy. Thank you, chzz. --Pgallert (talk) 15:22, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, in fairness, I didn't fix it! It was Tim Song (talk · contribs) and Algebraist (talk · contribs) who I asked in the live help thingy.
We were also discussing that the 'correct' symbol for it actually appears to be ǁ and ǀ instead of the regular pipe, as used in Lateral clicks...and if that is the case, that might make life easier - because ǀ is not a pipe symbol, so would not cause the same difficulties.
ǀ Ceci n'est pas une pipe  :-) (Sorry, poor joke, but made me laugh).  Chzz  ►  15:36, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
The full range of click characters: ʘ ǀ ǃ ǂ ǁ is available in the Special characters/IPA section of the edit toolbar, and under IPA in the drop-down menu below the edit box. Algebraist 15:59, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Just found it, thanks again to all involved. Will take ages to replace that all. Suddenly we could also have ǁKhauxaǃnas in Main space, I guess (still a red link, got distracted). --Pgallert (talk) 16:02, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Why is it still not OK? I checked it - it's a 5.15x expansion without the infobox. Why doesn't the quote count? -- ChrisO (talk) 07:56, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi ChrisO, for a detailed list of text that doesn't count as prose see Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Lore#Instruction creep or Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Glossary#prose. It is not always logical (a block quote doesn't count, an inline quote does, Why does bulleted content not count?, etc), but it is a very established process that will unlikely change much. --Pgallert (talk) 10:07, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
OK, so are you saying that if I change the block quote to an inline one it will pass? -- ChrisO (talk) 19:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Technically yes, but it might happen that someone else comes along and complains about an overly long inline quote. 300 chars is not much, just 1.5 times a DYK hook. The article is, however, already heavily padded with many duplicated phrases. There are other tricks to increase an article's prose count; just look at my two edits that provided the 300 chars without actually changing much ;) --Pgallert (talk) 08:40, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
The article's changed again since then, but I've rewritten one section that I had largely left alone before and added some new information. It's now at 7083 characters of prose or a 5.57x expansion, excluding the blockquote, infobox, image captions etc. -- ChrisO (talk) 18:27, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

The Wascals

In reply to your message left on my talk page: My AfD nomination of The Wascals articles is incomplete. I previously prodded the articles but the tag was removed by an IP (the article's creator has been blocked from editing) without comment or improvement. The article is completely unreferenced. I have searched but am not able to verify that this group have ever charted, and can not find reliable sources that meet the criteria or WP:GNP or WP:MUSIC. Since the PROD failed, I would like your help in bringing this article to AfD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fages (talkcontribs) 16:50, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Fages, see here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Wascals. BTW, your proposed deletion of their Greatest Hits album Greatest Hits (Wascals album) was syntactically not okay (I repaired that): When using the {{prod}} template you must substitute it, that is, you must write {{subst:prod}}. --Pgallert (talk) 17:20, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
I used the prod "gadget" to tag the article so I do not know why it was not okay, but thank you for the repair. (Perhaps problem was caused by the "gadget" trying to notify the now-blocked creator whose talk page is currently protected?) Concerning your reason for the second to my PROD on Greatest Hits (Wascals album), please note that the article states that the label 'finally released the album on June 17, 2007", so you may want to reconsider the reason for your second. Cheers. Fages (talk) 17:28, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh, thanks for letting me know, only read the beginning of the article and then shifted to the online sources. The addition "(Re-Issue)" looked to me like the original label never released it. Regarding prod, you're right, that might have been the reason. My Twinkle also stumbled over that when filing the AfD. But generally, Twinkle fails once in a while. Hi there, I started Germany–Namibia relations a long time ago and have meant to expand it, seeing as the relationship is vital to Namibian history and the current economy. I see that you speak Afrikaans and German, so I thought you might be able to expand from sources which I cannot understand. Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work! Nice job with the DYK's as well.--TM 16:47, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi TM, I'll see what I can do. Down here one tends to forget that not everyone can read all three languages. --Pgallert (talk) 18:39, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Sounds like you are dating yourself there :)--TM 20:34, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Dating oneself... well, it frequently happens to me that I do not remember which language the film/the book/the article was in when I read/viewed it. Google it in English and do not find it anywhere, just to figure out it was in the German newspaper. Or the other way round. Already wondered whether that will develop into something that needs medical attention ;) --Pgallert (talk) 20:54, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh yes, also, your input would be appreciated on the talk page of Israel-Namibia relations. An editor is again claiming South Africa didn't occupy Namibia (and Israel didn't support said occupation either, despite overwhelming evidence and sources.--TM 20:37, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
O dear, is there no area on WP where one will not get into the Israeli-Arab conflict? --Pgallert (talk) 20:54, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I think you as a Southern African can understand the intense passion from outside on that little section of the globe. Imagine the edit-wars over Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko circa 1980?--TM 21:01, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
No, I can't. But it seems there are quite a number of accounts (much less more than number of people behind it) that frequently search WP for the words "Israel" and "Arab" and start tweaking it their way. --Pgallert (talk) 10:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
You know my stand on the "occupation" terminology. In this case I would say, let it go. The paragraph already states it was occupied territory at that time, twice, and that Israel directly supported SA by training MPLA rebels. I think the message is coming across. --Pgallert (talk) 10:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello, is the DYK nom for the Jewish community of Danzig still being supported? If so, please clarify any concerns there before it becomes out-dated and deleted at DYK. --NortyNort (Holla) 08:15, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi NortyNort, and sorry for dragging my feet on this submission. I was of the opinion that another editor okayed, although he did not place the tick. Forgot that he is involved in the article creation and can therefore not approve hooks. I have requested a second opinion, for what started as an innocent historical article has developed into a battleground. Whether the current version observes all good practises with regards to Jewish/Stalinist/polish topics I really cannot decide. Sorry for not being bolder here. --Pgallert (talk) 09:02, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Dr. Lisa Christiansen AfD

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dr. Lisa Christiansen

I am requesting that you consider reviewing the above mentioned article and consider recommending that the article is kept, based on copyediting and established notability. I initially opposed the inclusion of this article on Wikipedia due to blatant promotional tone. The article is no longer written in a promotional tone and cannot be considered spam. The article was copy edited, but still lacked content establishing her notability.

After extensive work on the article, review of her books, and research of books and magazines that mention her, I realized that notability is established, based on the fact that a book has been written entirely about her. WP:BASIC states:

A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject.

The book, Gi–Dee–Thlo–Ah–Ee, of the Blue People Clan, was written in 1974, independent of any involvement by Christiansen, published by the Cherokee Nation, with copies in the Library of Congress, which includes this book and noted in their catalog and listings. Gi–Dee–Thlo–Ah–Ee is Christiansen's native Cherokee name given at birth.

I am now recommending that this article be kept, due to established notability as the subject of a published book, reliable and independent of the subject. Christiansen was eight years old when this book was written. Her notability was established according to the Nation upon the death of her mother, since Christiansen was then the last surviving descendant of Sequoyah. I would like to invite you to review the article and consider recommending that the article is kept, based on corresponding criteria WP:BASIC that establishes notability. It is my opinion that the article needs additional references. However, notability according to policy has now been established. Thank you. Cindamuse (talk) 17:16, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Cindamuse, and congrats for your considerable improvements of this article. Unfortunately, I shall stand by my "delete" opinion as I do not think that notability is established. The only claim that could come close is the book about Gi–Dee–Thlo–Ah–Ee. However, it is not an independent publication (the Cherokee Nation writing about the last descendant of the Cherokee Nation), and it is only one; Notability requires multiple sources. See also my comment in the AfD. Sorry, --Pgallert (talk) 09:22, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
  • I concur with your view of an independent publication. I hadn't thought about it that way. However, BLPs actually only require one source, and notability is properly established according to WP:BASIC. That said, I copyedited the article based on stated references. I am finding that there may be questions regarding those provided. Personally, I expect that the article will be deleted accordingly. I have no vested interest in the article or subject, but appreciate the editing kudos. Thanks for your response. Much appreciated. Cindamuse (talk) 12:45, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
  • BLPs need only one source, but as BLP (i.e.: What she achieved in life) she is not notable. The only way the article could stay is under the General Notability Guideline per her ancestry but this will require multiple sources (at least one independent). --Pgallert (talk) 13:43, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
  • I must admit I feel bad about an editor having put so much time into rescuing an article, and possibly without success. It happened to me, too (e.g. here). Judging from the current discussion it indeed looks like a delete (User:Sara-rockworth might not be aware of it but is doing no good to your and her cause). I see exactly one chance to rescue the article: Take out all other references except the Gi–Dee–Thlo–Ah–Ee book, remove everything those other references say, and mention her current job and career in no more than one or two sentences. LisaChristineChristiansen.com could become one (and the only one) entry under an "external link" section, and notability would solely rest on the book describing descent. --Pgallert (talk) 13:43, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Dude. Don't feel bad. Seriously. I think it's funny. I just don't take life that seriously. It's nothing to do a quick copyedit and reformatting. Honestly, I personally think the article should be deleted. I gave it a shot cuz everybody (myself included) was biting Sara, (the new chick on campus) and she didn't understand what we were trying to say. I thought if I did some copyediting, she might be able to visualize the difference between what she presented and something else. Also, three editors appear to be socks from where Sara lives, that know her and are attempting to personally discredit her first time efforts. I've received emails stating that fact. I'm a sucker for a sad story. Overall, I think the article is probably a detriment to any career the subject may have now or in the future. I could do more work and add more sources to support inclusion, but there are some red flags that concern me. Seriously, if she was a world renowned motivational speaker, don't you think there would be more resources and endorsements running rampant online? I have my doubts about this article, but gave it a shot. Next! LOL Have a great day (or night). Cindamuse (talk) 15:53, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Pgallert! I just finished a review (proof:) and I really hope it was helpful. The article has a lot of potential and it's obvious that you could really do great things with it. In the years that I've listed myself as a mentor, I think you are one of only two who have actually followed through with the article they wanted to work on. Keep up the good work! ceranthor 19:26, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Ceranthor, I will work on the suggestions one by one (sorry for the stupid disambig links, I thought I got them all). Regarding your second last phrase, I'm not entirely sure what you want to say (I haven't followed through yet, but I will certainly try my best) but it reads like a compliment, thanks. --Pgallert (talk) 21:29, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi there, I just started this microstub and thought you might be interested in helping to expand it. Great job with the Polytechnic article as well.--TM 04:50, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi TM, you seem to have some trouble with The Namibian references: Their square brackets need to be encoded, otherwise the citation templates break. Example:
  • original url: www.namibian.com.na/index.php?id=28&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=53365&no_cache=1
  • for WP citations: www.namibian.com.na/index.php?id=28&tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=53365&no_cache=1

Hi Elianamwiha (and I'm still not Sir) I assume that your edits for marking are in your sandbox, as requested. In this case you give me a link to the article you want marked at the project page. If you edited articles directly you can also post the link and I will try to figure out from the page history which improvements are yours. Your example, however, seems to be mistaken: User:De Klerk is not a registered account, and Ombalantu is a redirect page. --Pgallert (talk) 13:25, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi - I see Elinam has created several school stubs as I suggested (in half jest), I have added a few bits - well done Victuallers (talk) 12:11, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

Primary school in Windhoek

Hi PGallert, Thanks for the correction, But to tell the truth, there are primary school on Wikipedia such as Paulsgrove Primary School in some of the european countries and i find it neccesary for Namibian primary schools to have articles here. Thanks User:Elianamwiha —Preceding undated comment added 08:31, 29 September 2010 (UTC).

Hi Elianamwiha, primary schools are kept in Wikipedia if there is something interesting to say about them, and if that can be properly referenced. In the example you mention, the building for Paulsgrove Primary School was designed to become a field hospital, should the need arise. Pure proof of existence, on the other hand, is sufficient for universities and most non-primary schools.
That said, I should add that, contrary to the situation in the seminar room, on Wikipedia I have no special authority. You are free to add as many PS articles as you like, just don't be frustrated if someone nominates them for deletion, and don't put a red link around them in order not to frustrate inexperienced editors. Whether or not a list of schools (any schools) should be in the Windhoek article, feel free to open a discussion on Talk:Windhoek. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 08:59, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi there, I've expanded Gibeon, Namibia 5+ times and have nominated it for DYK. If you are so interested, I think there are more sources availiable on the politics in Gibeon (given the relatively low support for SWAPO) and I'd love help in expanding the article further.--TM 19:23, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi TM, great work! Indeed there is a lot more to say about Gibeon. Considering that it was the base of the ǀKhowesin (Witbooi Nama) for over a century, the article could be expanded fivefold again :) BTW, you forgot to mention the "real" Hendrik Witbooi (Namaqua chief) as a certainly notable resident, source is here. I didn't get round to all the Afrikaner captains that are still missing, am still stuck with the Orlams -- you saw that I have finally managed to write ǁKhauxaǃnas which is also at DYK. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A Place for Paedophiles

I added a notice to your talk page, then deleted it, and now since I realized upon closer inspection that it was a non-admin closure based off of BOLD, am adding this again. While I respect BOLD, your premise was wrong, so I am bringing it back to your attention:

I did not withdraw my nomination for deletion. I withdrew my nomination to extend the creator extra time. I am not demanding that you open it back up, but I would appreciate it if you recognized that the discussion was not over when it was closed.

I am, however, done fighting the deletion. I find dealing with the article's creator infuriating, and my argument that the subject in question is episodic is not gaining traction, so I have little else to add to the discussion. You can keep it closed, and in the end keep is going to be the decision regardless, but I still feel wronged by the process.

Just letting you know about the withdrawn mixup, Sven Manguard Talk 20:27, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sven, I'm sorry that you feel that way. I was closing the discussion mainly because someone was using what I believe was humour (albeit difficult to understand), and because I thought tensions were going to rise further despite the clear discussion outcome at that time. I was really interpreting your double comment as honest withdrawal instead of sarcasm, so it seems that I did not understand the discussion myself fully. I'll be not around in the next two weeks--If you feel you want the discussion re-opened just revert me, no worries. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 05:06, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Article on San people

Hi, I saw your comment about Bushmen being considered a derogatory term. If you can get consensus for a move soon, we can get the article title changed before we make the final publication. Namibia articles are important because the English offline collections are (as far as I can tell) most widely used in Africa and South Asia; this selection will probably be distributed a lot in South Africa, which I know has close ties with Namibia (my brother toured Namibia when living in RSA). Please let me know, Walkerma (talk) 03:15, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Walkerma, after reading most of the talk page on the article I'm not at all convinced that a consensus can be reached, least of all soon. That's probably something for version 1.0. I must admit that I am furthermore not 100% sure that it applies to every member of that group; most of them live in Botswana, not in Namibia. For Namibia it is pretty clear, just try to find any serious text that contains the name ǀUiǀoǀoo (the first San elected to Parliament) anywhere near the word bushman. --Pgallert (talk) 20:54, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

I added a bit of information and some wiki-specific coding. As a point of question, the last reference does not support any of the claims, did you mix up something there? The reference supports other claims. And there is an entirely different speculation on the content of the mass graves here, I'm just not too sure it is all encyclopedic. I fear we're far off the 1500-character mark required for DYK. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 13:16, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of V. Srinivas

I had tried to request a deletion of page "V. Srinivas" as this page in my opinion lacked "Notability" criteria. I was not very sure if I was successful in placing the request. Then i saw your note to me:

Hi Sudhir h, you listed this article for deletion but did not provide a reason. I therefore removed the entry from today's deletion log. If you need help with this process, please contact me on my talk page or place a {{helpme}} notice on your talk page. Cheers and happy editing, Pgallert (talk) 14:00, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

In the mean while I realized that the right way for this is first tagging the article for Notabiliy and then after some time it would automatically go in for deletion ... so no action now.

By placing the {{notability}} template, it will not automatically be tagged for deletion after a period of time. To tag it for speedy deletion for notability, you can add {{db-a7}}. To prod it, you can add {{subst:proposed deletion|reason}}. Be sure to replace "reason" with the reasoning for deleting the page. If you think the deletion will be controversial, you can create an Articles for Deletion discussion about it here. Best of luck! GorillaWarfare talk 13:06, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

5th National Assembly of Namibia and the local elections

Hi there, I hope your travels went well. War of the Words

Hello, you have deleted my War of teh Worlds (2010) entry because you think it is unsignificant. WHat do you base this claim? I happen to teach radio history at a university, so if you are also a radio historian, could you clarify why do you think this radio drama is not important for that topic?--Hargitai (talk) 14:38, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Hargitai, I suggested this entry to be deleted because it did not specify why it is important. I do know about the importance of the original play, but what's so special about adapting it for the year 2010? If you think you can prove the significance of this play, you can ask any administrator to restore it to your user space and improve it before putting it up life again. Unfortunately, I cannot restore that article for you because I do not have the appropriate user right. There was only a slight misunderstanding in the paragraph; the problem with eligibility stems from her not having a valid voter's card. That she did not vote in the previous election was secondary, even if it is rumoured to have made the president angry. Thanks for writing this up, --Pgallert (talk) 09:39, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Re: DYK nomination of Spying on United Nations leaders by United States diplomats

Thanks for looking at this. I've responded to your comments and proposed a new hook at Template talk:Did you know#Spying on United Nations leaders by United States diplomats. Wasted Time R (talk) 13:16, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the close. Going through the available German language sources[4] and translating (ouch!) will be a bit tough, but I'll be working on it and do more in the morning. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 09:52, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Followup on my failed RfA (Richwales)

Hi. In my recent (failed) RfA, you mentioned that you had seen a "pattern of referencing other Wikipedia articles" — by which I'm assuming you meant WP:CIRCULAR. I'm going through articles I've worked on in the past, trying to improve them, and I'd like to make sure I catch and fix problems such as this. I'd be grateful if you could point out to me any specific examples of this issue which you noticed, so I can be sure to take care of them. I'm not trying to challenge your opposition to my RfA; there were many perfectly valid problems raised, I accept that I lost "fair and square", and I'm essentially treating the whole exercise as an intense "editor review". As I said, I'm already going through some of my old work, so it's possible that I may already have fixed some of the specific examples you saw, but I'm assuming there are still more for me to hit. Thanks for any feedback. Richwales (talk · contribs) 04:21, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Richwales, sorry you did not succeed with your RfA. Measuring how much someone has to know, to prove, and to endure prior and during Hell Week. WP:NOBIGDEAL is pretty much a thing of the distant past.
  • My main concern was not WP:CIRCULAR but the way you quote things that are referenced in other articles: Article A states x and references it with R. You state x in article B but you reference it with A instead of R! That's pretty much a good way of writing as long as you can make sure A does not change, in the academic context I do that all the time. On WP, it is not so good, better copy over the source of article A.
  • There are are few other technical oddities in your top-edited articles: Sometimes it is not clear at all where the facts in the footnotes are coming from (see e.g. United_States_v._Wong_Kim_Ark, the first three notes), and the wikilinking and see-alsos do not always make sense (Why are case names consistently wikilinked to themselves or to one of their incoming redirects? What sense does it make to link the case volumes in the see-also section?)
  • Okay, that was my technical concern on your editing style, I wouldn't have opposed for this alone. My reason for opposing normally goes the other way round: I start at general contributions, talk, and user page, and if I find something fishy I compose an oppose. User:Richwales/Drafts/RfA_Q&A caught my attention. Although you did not formulate it that way in your live RfA, the idea that you would mention singular edits when asked what you are most proud of I found very odd, also that you would remember 5 edits from 6 years ago when you did not have an account. The wording on that page exposes a possible another concern: You wish to block and to protect pages, yet all your AN contributions are about problems that occurred while you were editing the same article, and therefore involved. Such a statement, in my view, must be supplied with an assurance that you, as a matter of course, would not use your buttons to win a content disagreement. That this statement is missing makes it possible for me that you did not understand the problem at the time of filing the RfA. Generally my advice would be to place a {{db-self}} on this sub page.
Hope I could clarify a few things, feel free to ask further questions. --Pgallert (talk) 06:58, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Very impressive Henties Bay expansion

Hi Pgallert, I just wanted to commend you on your edits at Henties Bay; a necesscary and wonderful expansion. Great work. Do you think you can expand it 5x for a DYK?--TM 16:11, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Already done and nominated. The possible hook with a dead rhino I did not want to let go :) Happy Christmas --Pgallert (talk) 16:47, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
But it went from 2500k to 7200k? Perhaps my math is wrong, but that doesn't seem to be 5x?--TM 16:49, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Ye, only the prose is counted, by character. There is a script called "DYK check" which counts this without much hassle. --Pgallert (talk) 17:59, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh yes, and another thought on a different topic. I am creating a rather extensive wish list of articles to be created on Namibia, all of whom which are inherently notable for various reasons (missing NA or NC members, towns, cities and villages or prominent civil society members etc). So if you are looking to create an article or two, I would suggest that you check out User:Namiba/My wish list#Namibia. Feel free to add any that you think need creating in the future. Thanks!--TM 17:14, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

I actually work the other way round, if I find information in the newspaper or somewhere else, I cross-check whether it is in WP and try to accommodate it. BTW, I started an expansion of Katima Mulilo as well but there was a lot of unreferenced nonsense in it which I deleted but which counts against a 5x expansion. I'm currently at 3x, any idea what to add? --Pgallert (talk) 17:59, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
That is also a good way of doing it. The first 20-30 are names taken from the Namibia Institute for Democracy's Who's who biographies. The towns and cities were taken from many New Era articles as well. Happy editing and Merry Christmas.--TM 04:29, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK submission

Hi, I tried to delete my comment about Henties Bay, because I saw your mention of a DYK word counter and figured I needed to read up much more before attempting to review submissions. Hope it didn't impair your submission at all. Cheers, -Uyvsdi (talk) 20:49, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi

Hi Uyvsdi, no problem at all, and no harm done. It is always good to welcome a new contributor to DYK, and if something goes wrong one of the regulars there will correct it. Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 11:59, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
