UST and the Spanish monarchs

[edit]

you were asking for more relevant facts regarding the contribution of the spanish monarchy to ust? is former ust rector now archbishop leonardo legaspi not a credible source? aren't you familiar with the history of your own alma mater?

ust was under the spanish supervision for nearly 300 years, so it is just apt to give preponderance to that regime by putting that article here.

To quote my original stand on your facts, "Though this addition is very very informative, we should also feature other periods such as the American and Japanese regimes. Putting this good article, however, makes the history section of the University unbalanced. Since you look game enough in contributing information in Wikipedia, my advices are to let your additions sit for a while until representations from other regimes (stated above) are also cited, and research for more relevant facts especially in history. Thank you very much. By the way, where did find this article? May I know? Thanks again."
I have been editing UST's Wiki since 2006. In fact, I made the List of University of Santo Tomas student organizations, University of Santo Tomas seals and emblems, and University of Santo Tomas student life and culture. If you can see the list of the Past Rectors of the University in the People page of UST, it's because I also added them straight from the Varsitarian paper. I'm even planning to visit the UST Heritage Library and the UST Archives soon just for the sake of getting reliable facts. Though your contribution is very essential, it somehow breaks the continuity of the History section of the University.
I'm not questioning the credibility of your source. I just want to see/read the book for my own. Pampi1010 (talk) 30 October 2008

the title of the entry was "the university and the spanish monarchs" so, understandably, it can stand on its own without considering other regimes. that would not mean of historical imbalance. why worry of disregarding the history of the university under the american period when you can add another entry soley for that period? i started the ust entry here in wikipedia wayback in march 2005 after learning that there was no entry for ust. im happy that it evolved tremendously. going back to the article, it was sourced from former rector now archbishop leonardo legaspi. --House of bourbon (talk) 03:38, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How can you not consider other regimes if they're just as important as the one you're pushing. Well, if that's really what you want, we can remove now the other colleges leaving only the Faculty of Civil Law and Faculty of Medicine and Surgery since they're the only colleges in the University that continuously bring glory to UST. What if I'll replace the UST's Athletic section with the stories from the 90's four-peat era and the Season 69 because they're one of the most remarkable, wouldn't we sound incomplete and bias? Universities with their Wiki's on the Featured list such as Cornell, Dartmouth, and Duke concisely cited their university's equally historic past. Let's not get too far, just look at the Ateneo way of telling the readers their beginnings. Ateneo Wikipedians were able to mention all the periods of their school's past, from its foundation down to its recent history, and not dwelling from its Spanish origins. For me, it's just all or nothing.
A few editors are contending this section, each having their own disputed points. I'm after the evenness while they're for the proper citation, and no one is after the source's credibility.
umm.. ??I don't know if I'm talking to the same person.?? --Pampi1010 (talk) 07:55, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

you didn't understand my point, did you? and please, don't give me the impression that ateneo is the archetypal entry for a university here in wikipedia let alone other universities. if you want to feature ust's history under the american and japanese regime, then go, do it yourself. i am giving preponderance on the spanish regime for obvious reason and as a thomasian, you ought to know the contribution of the spanish regime to ust's existence. this is not to say that i am disregarding the other regime. you seem too conceited on your faculty of medicine and surgery, lol. --House of bourbon (talk) 09:55, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As much as I want to feature the University's history from day 1, I just can't. Valid resources are so limited. The current University administration only imprints the same old stories and facts (1611, royal, pontifical, catholic, and pope visits) to the students. Your find was actually a delight to fanatics and Wikipedians alike. But again, I think it's better if we'd get it done concisely - like what we have now - or get it comprehensively. No in-betweens. You may want to search for more historic facts and put them into a new Wiki account. Thank you. --Pampi1010 (talk) 04:05, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of History of University of Santo Tomas, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: University of Santo Tomas. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Splitting articles

[edit]

Hi. :) I happened to be watching Coren's talk page and saw your note to him there. I wanted to just drop you an explanation on how to properly divide articles on Wikipedia. As Wikipedia:Split sets out, when we split material, we have to provide a direct link to the source article. This is necessary because Wikipedia's contributors do not release their material into public domain, but retain rights to authorship under the terms of GFDL. This wikilink satisfies that requirement by allowing readers to access the history and see who contributed what and when. Usually, we put into the edit summary something along the lines of "Split from Sourcearticle". Then, we note the split as well in an edit summary at the source article. That would read like "Material split to destination article", in this case. This helps make sure that the article is not later deleted, as it cannot be as long as the article to which the material has been split remains. I have fixed the problems with this split, but I wanted to let you know for future use. Thanks, and if you have any questions about this, please feel free to leave a line at my talk page. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:17, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Old UST Side Entrance.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Old UST Side Entrance.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 13:34, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Old UST Side Entrance.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Old UST Side Entrance.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? J Milburn (talk) 14:08, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Miguel_de_Benavides.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Miguel_de_Benavides.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 04:53, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article History of University of Santo Tomas you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Thelb4 07:44, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Thelb4! Thank you for allotting some in time in reviewing the said article! While you're checking the article, I hope you'll learn a lot of new things from the history of our University. I have some questions though.
  • First, I tried to leave comments on your talk page, but I can't seem to find the proper section where I can leave them. I'm not well-versed in Wiki.
  • You said you're going to review the article, does that mean you're also editing?

Thanks. --Pampi1010 (talk) 08:14, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. For leaving messages on my talk page, just start a new section (at the top, next to 'edit this page').
I've reviewed it, and noticed there are a few things that need to be done before I can pass it. They are detailed at the article's talk page. I will also make a few small edits to the article (but not right away, I haven't got time). If you have any questions, go to my talk page. Thelb4 08:25, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I have significantly edited the article. Changes are listed on its talk page. Thanks again Thelb4!--Pampi1010 (talk) 13:27, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:College of Commerce box.jpg)

[edit]

You've uploaded File:College of Commerce box.jpg, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

[edit]

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Thanks for uploading File:World_Youth_Day_1995_in_UST.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. University of Santo Tomas seals and emblems

[edit]

First thing to do is to go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/University of Santo Tomas seals and emblems and explain why you think the article should not be deleted. Then you need to read WP:N and bring the article up to standards. You need to find multiple, reliable, independent (i.e. non University) sources that discuss this topic to establish that it meets wikipedia's inclusion criteria. If you fix the article so it is inline with basic policies, other users will most likely recognize that and vote to keep the article. Otherwise, it will probably be deleted. Sorry, but I hope this helps.-Andrew c [talk] 03:18, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Deletion discussion about Thomasian Welcome Walk

[edit]

Hello, Pampi1010

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Onel5969 and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Thomasian Welcome Walk, should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thomasian Welcome Walk.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Onel5969}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

An article you recently created, Awards and prizes of the University of Santo Tomas, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ... discospinster talk 21:28, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Draft:Thomasian Welcome Walk. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 16:05, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Calm down. There's no need for exaggerations over the articles' "deaths". I was just trying to improve the articles, especially the history article which was last reviewed in 2009 (more than 10 years ago). Remember that you do not own the articles in question, but feel free to modify or revert my edits if it is necessary. Good luck on your major exam btw. :) 07:36, 20 May 2023 (UTC) Itsquietuptown ✉️📜 07:36, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved UST Martyrs' Monument to draftspace at Draft:UST Martyrs' Monument. This article is very far from ready for mainspace when there is a single reference that barely discusses the tower.
