Millport and Bute

[edit]

Actually this is a POV issue, but its a little more complex that first sight (and my edit summary wasn't particularly helpful). The POV arises from the assertion that Buteshire is an extant area, instead of being defunct for the vast majority of purposes (except the rather arcane function of land registration) and best treated as a bit of historical information (see Tomintoul for a better handled example).

A more pragmatic concern with the exact phrasing in the Millport article is the reference to Bute is in the wrong place. Its Great Cumbrae that is/was in Buteshire, not the Firth of Clyde itself. If mentioned at all Bute should be in a secondary sentence.--Nilfanion (talk) 12:17, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2013–14 FC Bayern Munich season

[edit]

I noticed you looked over the 2014 Toronto FC season article and improved phrasing, spelling & punctuation. Could you go to the 2013–14 FC Bayern Munich season ans the 2013–14 FC Bayer 04 Leverkusen season and do the same? Please and thanks. Kingjeff (talk) 01:27, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New Westminster Schools

[edit]

You've deleted the elementary schools pages in [[New Westminster], replacing them with redirects to the New Westminster page. These pages had information on them which isn't on the School District page. Can you please either add the information to the SD40 page or undelete the elementary schools. Additionally, all of the elementary schools on the SD page now have links that link back to the same page Pnorman (talk) 01:38, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No...elementary schools don't meet the standard for notability. The normal course of action is to redirect them to either their Board's article or their municipality's. PKT(alk) 01:45, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May 2014 disambig contest: let's do it again!

[edit]

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! I personally will be aiming to lead the board next month, but for anyone who thinks they can put in a better effort, I will give a $10 Amazon gift card to any editor who scores more disambiguation points in May. Also, I will be setting up a one-day contest later in the month, and will try to set up more prizes and other ways to make this a fun and productive month. Cheers! bd2412 T 18:49, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nootka - Nuu-chah-nulth

[edit]

Re this and others, Nootka has been in disuse in Canada since the 1970s when the term Nuu-chah-nulth was coined; rather than pipe it so it reads "Nootka" that term should not be used at all, except in quotations I guess; also Nuu-chah-nulth has had the unnecessary disambiguation removed by RM, as with other similar titles.Skookum1 (talk) 06:01, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Larry Detwiler may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

CGA Userbox

[edit]

Hello fellow CGA (or rather CPA, CGA)

I am a fellow CPA, CGA and I noticed that you have the userbox transcluded in your userpage. As you are probably aware that as the merged proposal was passed, as of now all CGA in Ontario (I assume that you are one based on what you wrote in your user page) are now CPA, CGA. Do you think we need a new userbox to indicate that? (You are the only person who has it transcluded) SYSS Mouse (talk) 16:53, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

July 2014

[edit]

Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:Bricklin SV-1, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. I realize you probably meant well. Please feel free to redo your edits, without the refactoring. Auric talk 18:23, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a good reason you redid your edit, making the article Bricklin SV-1 now "Start-class" and not the original C?--Auric talk 19:15, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please re-check the history - it has never been a "C" class article. It certainly doesn't have enough referencing currently to be any more than Start class. PKT(alk) 20:35, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Are you sure that the city was named after Hyacinth of Caesarea and not Hyacinth of Poland? I'm referring to this: [1]. I'm reading a biography of Hyacinth of Poland now and there the author writes that the city was established by French colonists and named after the Polish saint. Best regards. Maksymilian Sielicki (talk) 11:38, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can't remember why I thought it was named for Hyacinth of Caesarea (that edit was done about 4 months ago) but I agree that it looks more likely that Hyacinth of Poland is right. The City's website says it was named by a landowner whose patron saint was "St. Hyacinthe" but it's not specific. I'll change the article. PKT(alk) 12:48, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Windsor Ontario

[edit]

I see you are also from Windsor Ontario, yes when talking about "Windsor" in general the win-zer pronunciation is correct, however in today's world, Windsor Ontario is pronounced Win-dzor. The d is not silent here, unlike the British Win-Zer. It' snot unlike the " T'ronto " pronunciation of To-Ron-To. Compare Ga-ra-ge to Gare-age.--NotWillyWonka (talk) 13:05, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No Windsorite I know or ever heard makes the "d" audible, but if you want to list that as an alternate pronunciation, I could accept it. PKT(alk) 13:38, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw that the George Archer 6 Day page has been deleted. The race is not currently being held but it is a part of 6 day race history and is shame to lose a reference to the event.

With regards to your proposed deletion of this page, Is this a matter of me needing to add verifiable sources, or are you arguing that they don't deserve a reference? Trepex (talk) 21:50, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trepex - I guess my answer is "both". "the fourth largest home builder in the Ottawa-Carleton region" likely isn't notable. I seriously doubt that there are any appropriate references from reliable sources that would support an article for the company. However, I can certainly be wrong on this, so good luck! Jim Butterfield

[edit]

Hello, PKT. Thanks for your recent reassessment of the Jim Butterfield article. Given the article's substantial revision and expansion the past few days, I was surprised that in your view it saw no measurable improvement in quality. (It doesn't seem to much resemble the Start-class example article given at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment#Quality scale.) Could you please let me know which quality criteria in particular weren't met, so that I can work on addressing these? —Psychonaut (talk) 12:43, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why I rated it start class, but I'm not comfortable making it "B" yet. The redlinks in the references should be cleaned up or unlinked. I haven't checked the references yet. I've changed the class rating to C in the meantime. PKT(alk) 21:08, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response and for the reassessment. The redlinks were added only for those publishers or publications I suspect are notable in their own right, so per the WP:REDLINK guideline these should probably stay so that editors are encouraged to create the corresponding articles. (Indeed, since your previous message I've gone ahead and created one or two of them myself.) —Psychonaut (talk) 08:55, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
