Ryan Alosio
[edit]Please do not restore copy and pasted text as you did to the Ryan Alosio article. Per WP:COPYVIO, all text submitted to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. The text you have added appears to be copy and pasted from this link which would be copy violation. Further, your edits removed categories and persondata which all article require. If you have any questions, please refer to the help links provided in the welcome template above or contact me on my talk page. Thanks. Pinkadelica♣ 21:23, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Ryan Alosio.....again
[edit]Per my note above, please do not keep reintroducing copyrighted text into the Ryan Alosio article. The text you have inserted into the article is copied and pasted straight from the subject's IMDb biography (complete with "trivia") which is strictly prohibited. ALL text found on IMDb.com is under copyright and cannot be copied elsewhere. Please (re)read WP:COPYVIO and ensure that you understand Wikipedia's policy on copyright violations. Further violation of WP:COPVIO may lead to a block. If you would like to edit the article to correct any mistakes or add additional content that you think the article is lacking, feel free to do so but please ensure that you have a reliable source to supports the content. Further, please do not remove the filmography chart (list of credits) again. The chart is standard for all actor's biography and again, we do not simply copy and paste text (including filmography credits) into any article here. Thank you. - Hi Ryan. Thank you for getting back to me regarding your edits to the Ryan Alosio article. If you are in fact the subject of the article, please ensure that you read WP:COI. There's no policy forbidding your or your management from editing the article, but we need to make sure Wikipedia's neutrality policy is being followed. I'll be happy to help you add whatever information you want to add but again, we cannot copy text from other sources. I'm not well versed in copyright laws, but I'm fairly certain that once you release content to a website (such as IMDb), you no longer own the rights to it. Even if you do, I think it's probably better to just rewrite the content in accordance with Wikipedia policy and standards. I've removed the text once again, but kept in the 1979 date of birth as you stated that was correct. If you can provide me with some reliable sources and a general idea of what you want the article to say, I'll try to expand it ASAP. Thanks and happy 2010 to you as well! - Hello again, Ryan. Regarding your message to my talk page, I'd like you to please re-read the advice and guidelines Moonriddengirl has left below. There are several links to Wikipedia policy in that message that you should take the time to read or re-read. Additionally, I think it would serve you best if you contacted someone at WP:OTRS. Just click on that blue link and send an email detailing your problems with the article. Pinkadelica♣ 13:03, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Copyright problems
[edit]In accordance with Wikipedia's copyright policy, we cannot accept previously published text without verification of compatible license. If this content was submitted by you or your manager to IMDb, it may not be possible for you to verify that, since IMDb's license is not compatible with Wikipedia's and since it will be difficult to verify that copyright ownership belongs to your manager. The procedures we ordinarily use, which are set out at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, will not work with IMDb.
I'm afraid that biographical information added to this article will have to be written from scratch to comply with our policies. Please do not continue placing this text into the article. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and contributors who persist in placing copyrighted content onto Wikipedia without verifying compatible license will be blocked from further contribution. This is necessary for the protection of the project.
Additionally, Wikipedia is not able to accept biographical material without reliable sources to verify. We are not able to use IMDb, and I'm afraid that we are also not able to take your word for it, even if you verify your identity. This is "original research", and it is also forbidden by Wikipedia's policies. For that reason, the 1979 birthdate has been removed from the article. While the IMDb date of 1973 is also not reliable, the only sources that meet our verifiability policy that I've been able to find indicate an age in 1999 of 25 (see the article's talk page for more information). At the moment, there is no reference to birth date in the article at all.
I see that another user has offered to assist in creating material usable for Wikipedia. In order to avoid running into issues with Wikipedia's guidelines on autobiographies and conflict of interest editing, you may wish to consider taking her up on this. An experienced contributor could help you avoid some of the problems that might result in the article's being protected from additional edits.
More information on biographical articles written for their subjects can be found at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help. This includes information on what to do if you disagree with information in an article and where to find help.
Thank you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:51, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Copyright block
[edit]{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first, as well as taking this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to quote non-free text. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:50, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Your email
[edit]Hello.
I have received your email, but it was addressed to my work account. I cannot use it for personal purposes, such as those related to my activities as a volunteer administrator.
For the sake of clarity, you were not blocked for a COI. You were blocked for repeatedly copying content from another website without verifying license - which constitutes a copyright problem on Wikipedia. Our policies are pretty strict about respecting the copyright of our sources.
If you wish to be unblocked so that you can request changes to the article, you are welcome to do so by following the directions above so that another volunteer administrator can review your request. You will need to offer some reassurance that you are aware now that you cannot copy content from other websites - even websites owned by you - without verifying license.
I have to say it concerns me a bit on that front that the text you have asked me to put in your article is duplicated from IMDb, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0022323/bio. We still can't do that here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:38, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm afraid as I explained a few years ago at User_talk:Onegoodmonkey#Copyright_problems, it's not really easy to verify ownership of content at the IMDb, and it remains a problem under our sourcing policies. You might want to write to the volunteer response team at info-enwikimedia.org for assistance with correcting any errors in the article or to determine if there's any way to verify license. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:35, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
