Adorably Adoptable
I noted that you were looking at adopting someone new to wiki-editing, and would like to request it. I cannot count the number of times I have wished to be more proficient in editting so as to contribute more when I see pages in need of skills beyond mine own. Not to mention you seem to have a bit of Japanese experience/knowledge to you- and the anime lover in me will always appreciate that. :) I have no idea where such things begin, so if you desire to accept, just let me know what to do next. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coroloro (talk • contribs) 11:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, I'd be my pleasure. :-)
- As a start, if you have any questions about Wiki or how to use it, just ask. I assume you know the basics, such as Wikiformatting, correct? —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 16:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I just know what I have picked up from "mimicking" what others use- I'm not really sure what everything does exactly. I've noticed that colons seem to indent in some fashion, and asterisks seem to... well, do something pretty nifty. The only thing I know for sure is how to 'sign' my name with the tildes. That is part of my limitation in being able to edit- obviously, it is kind of hard to edit well when you don't know how to do what everyone else seems to. It looks rather complex, a bit like HTML.
As a side-topic, I also had a question on the treatment of the mega-article Wall-E. It seems to me like everytime I visit back there, 1) the discussion page has been hugely editted, and 2) nothing I wrote is still there. Also, it seems like any attempts I make to add to or shape the article itself are completely obliterated. Is the article basically controlled by the 'established editors' and revisions or discussions by newbies resisted until they have established their reputation?Coroloro (talk) 12:47, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, Wikitext is quite a bit like HTML. In fact, we use some here (not a lot though, see WP:HTML for all the tags that are allowed by the software).
- For starters, you could check out WP:CHEATSHEET. It has many of the basic controls that you're still getting used to. I'll go over them briefly here:
- Bullets, (what this list is started by) are made by typing in the asterisk (*) key.
- Bold text is made by using triple apostrophes ('''). Be sure to close them appropriately, though. For example, if you want User:Coroloro, type in:
'''User:Coroloro'''
- If you want User:Coroloro, type in:
''User:Coroloro''
- If you want User:Coroloro, key:
'''''User:Coroloro'''''
- To insert an new section heading (like the Adorably Adoptable heading), use equal signs. For the first heading use:
==YOUR TEXT HERE==
- For a sub-heading under YOUR TEXT HERE, just add an extra equal sign. So, if you want a sub-heading titled "Reception", the code is:
===Reception===
- And so forth. (It is possible to use a sub-heading under a sub-heading as well.) I hope that helps!
- As for WALL-E, we try not to bite newcomers as best we can, so no, "established editors" don't just control everything there is. :-) Wikipedia changes and grows very rapidly, and oftentimes new wikipedian's edits are reverted because of inexperience, or for quality reasons. Could you show me the "diff" of the edit, so I can help determine why it was reverted?
- I hope that information was informative!
- Your coach, —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 00:13, 20 July 2008 (UTC).
Mr Todd
Thanks for your patience in getting to the next copyedit. I'm trying to clear a slight backlog at the moment (if you fancy helping out, I've been asked for an urgent copyedit of Battle of Tory Island, which is stalled at FAC... your thoughts would be most welcome!). I won't take on any more requests until we've finished with your article though. EyeSerenetalk 09:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, I'd be most glad to help out there. I don't know how late I'll be though; I'm going to be working the rest of today, so I won't likely be online until 18 June UTC. Cheers, —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 23:53, 17 July 2008 (UTC).
- Thanks for your note (I've watchlisted the RfA page btw). I've also cleared my backlog... almost. Just some maps to draw, but I'll leave those until we've done a second pass over Sweeney Todd. Hopefully I can make a start tomorrow ;) EyeSerenetalk 16:47, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Need any help? I can't say I'm the most brilliant article-builder here on wiki, but if there's anything I can do to help things move along I'd be glad to lend a hand! Cheers, —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 16:52, 21 July 2008 (UTC).
- Absolutely! I'd assumed you would be joining in anyway - it's your article (I know, WP:OWN and all that, but you know what I mean!). I think the next task is to rewrite as prose as many as possible of the direct quotations. There are rather a lot at the moment, and although a few quotes can add value to an article, too many gives the impression - falsely, in this case - that the article has just been pasted together. If you decide which quotes you'd like to keep, we (or you, if you like, as I won't be doing much else this evening) can start working on the rest. EyeSerenetalk 17:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Heh, well that was a given. :P What I meant was do you need any assistance clearing the backlog that you're currently having trouble with. —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 17:07, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oops :$ Well, if you can draw maps...? EyeSerenetalk 18:22, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- I wish. I can draw landscape, portraits, etc. but probably not maps... Are you in need of a map to illustrate the article? —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 18:26, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- See here. I drew two or three for one of Cam's other articles (Battle of Verrieres Ridge), and I'm quite happy to do these too, but I'm not convinced my graphics skills are the best... and I won't get to them anytime soon :P EyeSerenetalk 18:35, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, that's excellent—I wish I could help you out with that. Unfortunately, unless you want a charcoal sketch of someone in the battle or something like that, I can't help you. :-( Best of luck, however! —Mizu onna sango15Discuss 05:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- No worries :D EyeSerenetalk 07:29, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

(outdent) I wonder if we're ready for peer review - what do you think? The citations still need some work on their formatting, and we may be able to trim the quotes further, but more opinions might be useful. EyeSerenetalk 10:20, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- I thought you were already going for FA, but I think a peer review would certainly be a good idea. You might want to format the quotes first, though (I'd be most willing to help you out there)!
- By the way, I wanted to ask you; Could you look over this article I'm working on and give feedback on how I can further improve it? I do know it needs a reception section (which is in my sandbox BTW, feel free to look at it) and a good copyedit, but hopefully I can get it to good article status eventually, if all goes well.
- Yes, I just thought PR would be useful to get some extra eyes on the article, but it needn't stop us preparing for FA. I'll have a look at your other article over the weekend (off work for 2 weeks now!) EyeSerenetalk 16:45, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Tony Award-winning musicals
Hi! Thanks for all your help with musicals. Just one note: We do not say "Tony Award-winning" in the first sentence of musicals articles. If the musical won "Best musical", we note it usually in the second or third paragraph of the intro. If you have any questions about this, please discuss it at the WP:MUSICALS talk page. Thanks! Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:10, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- I have no problem undoing said edits, but could you show me where it states that in the MoS? A lot of musical articles I've read or contributed to have this, and are of good quality. Thanks! —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 22:14, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi. It's not in the MOS, instead, it's the policy of the Musicals project, after discussion among the editors there. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Musical Theatre/Article Structure. The idea is that a musical consists of its book, lyrics and music, and that whether its original production wins awards might depend on factors that have nothing to do with the musical itself. Although, I guess a Pulitzer could be mentioned in the opening sentence. Therefore, only the stuff that is integral to the musical itself (regardless of particular productions) should be mentioned in the first sentence. That's why we don't say that something is a Broadway musical or a West end musical or whatever. BTW, I am not watching your talk page, so please, if you want to respond, bring the discussion to the WP:MUSICALS talk page. Thanks! Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:37, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Request for copyediting
Hi. I currently have the article Insane Clown Posse up as a featured article candidate, and it needs some copyediting work. Could you help out? (Ibaranoff24 (talk) 02:23, 27 July 2008 (UTC))
- I'm terribly sorry, but I can't get to your request. I greatly appreciate your coming to me and asking for me to copyedit said article, but I'm rather busy with backlog (and off-wiki business) and I won't be able to copyedit your article, I'm sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused. Since it's up at FAC, the copyedit must be urgent, but if you still need one for whatever reason in a week or so, I'd be most willing to lend a hand :-) Cheers, —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 03:40, 27 July 2008 (UTC).

Dear Mizu,
Thanks for all your work on Musicals articles, but I would like to ask you to discuss major changes at the musicals' project talk page before just deleting whole sections or adding whole sections. Some of the changes you are making have been discussed previously and rejected. Perhaps a new discussion would yield a new consensus, but I really think you should try to get more agreement before making these major changes. As for minor changes, please see WP:OVERLINK. Also, I do not agree that a discussion of the differences between a show's plot and the plot of its source is OR. Rather, it needs to be referenced, and a cn tag or a reference tag would be appropriate there. I'm looking forward to working with you on many projects in the future, and I respect your work, but let's start off with some discussions first, OK? Thanks! All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:51, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Not a problem, but please see my comment at the Little Shop of Horrors page. —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 03:56, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Nerd is a common word that all English speakers understand. I think it is overlinking to link it. But it is a minor matter, so if you feel strongly about it, I'm not going to revert it. Let's focus on the major issues that you have. Please discuss them at the project talk page. As Music Maker knows, there is a lot of discussion history about the structure of musicals articles, but there are also a lot of new editors, so let's see if we can get a new consensus for or against your ideas. I do think, however, that you should start of a little more slowly, and gather a consensus at the musicals project. Once you have done so, then you can go ahead and make the changes without worrying. Must go to sleep now! Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:19, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I'm not a new user. Just because I may disagree with you in some cases does not mean I am new or inexperienced, and I am one of many editors who follow these practices, so we'll just have to converse at the appropriate WikiProject page to gain further consensus. Also (per your query at Talk:Little Shop of Horrors (musical)), the ninth bullet under WP:HEAD sums up fairly well why I converted the different productions into subheadings.
- Also, "nerd" is generally considered colloquial, so it probably shoudn't be used anyway (unless it's iconic to the theme of the work, for example in Revenge of the Nerds), but if it must be included it should be linked. If you strongly disagree, feel free to remove the link since it's not that big a deal to me, but I think it should be there.
- Hope that makes things clearer, —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 04:32, 29 July 2008 (UTC).
Hi. I didn't mean to imply that I think you're inexperienced. I meant "new editor" on the Musicals project. I have been working on the musicals articles for over two years, and I have only noticed you working on them recently, so I thought that you might not be privy to the many discussions that we have had on these subjects over the years. Music Maker and I started on the project around the same time, but unfortunately, in 2007, many of the editors who had been contributing seem to have gotten tired of the project. Now we have a number of excellent new editors, like yourself, but who do not remember the prior discussions. So, everyone is sort of doing his/her own thing, which is OK, but it means that we should be conservative when it comes to deleting other editors' work, or making statements like "all musicals article must include/exclude this", I think. Some of our best editors, like JeanColumbia, do not like to participate in discussions, though she watches them carefully for guidance. We do have some article structure guidelines for the project which have generally been working well, and we can keep working to improve them through consensus at WP:MUSICALS. I mean you no offense, and I do appreciate your enthusiasm and energy. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:34, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- No worries, and I also apologise if I sounded harsh (I wash just trying to clear the air here). I've been a WP:MUSICALS member since Winter and have been contributing to musical theatre articles since about January, but I must've forgotten to watchlist the project page, so I'm rather new to adding my two cents in discussion. :-)
- I'd like to take the time to apologise for being so harsh on musical articles lately, specifically Little Shop of Horrors (musical). I saw some things that I thought needed fixing, and I foolishly rushed into it without gathering other opinions first. I'll make certain any edits I do to musical articles reflect consensus from now on. Cheers, —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 20:37, 29 July 2008 (UTC).
Barnstar
06:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I've been looking for a barnstar for WikiProject Musical Theatre, but I don't think such a star exsists. I'll do some more searching first just to be safe, but it'd be interesting to have an image of the barnstar with something like a treble clef, or an eighth note, or something else relevant to the project. I'd be great if you could do that! —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 09:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
That sounds good! Just tell me if you find it or not, and I'll (possibly) get to work!
L337*P4wn 09:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- The WP:MUSICALS project uses a light blue comedy/tragedy mask logo, so that logo could be used in the barnstar code. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:24, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, Ss. :-) Would that be a possibility, L337? —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 20:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Of course! Now, would you just want the logo on the barnstar, and that's it? Or is this still in the idea stage?
L337*P4wn 01:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you're free, go ahead and create it! Perhaps a blue or silver barnstar (or whatever matches, you're the artist) with the logo on top? —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 01:14, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay. I won't upload it when I finish, I'll Photobucket it...and get approval. Don't want to upload a bad image!

- No problem. :-) —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 01:17, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
OK, I know I need to use the logo...but do I have to? Can't I just use the dramatic masks and a music note? L337*P4wn 01:36, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's what the logo is, essentially. Then again, be creative and do whatever works. But it should look somewhat like the project logo, which you can find by looking at the project page. —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 01:42, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:MOTD needs your help!
You're listed as one of our contributors, but recent inactivity in the project has led us to be rather short on mottos. Currently, the schedule only has mottos up to August 12th, and that's only because I just spent half an hour or so filling them in! In order to make sure the project doesn't fold in, we need your help coming up with ideas for new mottos, commenting on active proposals, closing finished submissions, and your input on a new proposal to re-use some of our older mottos when we run out of new ones. Hundreds of editors see our mottos every day; if you can, please take some time out of your normal editing and drop by to help the project out. Thanks for your time. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:01, 31 July 2008 (UTC) P.S. - You're getting this because you're using {{User MOTD}}. If you don't want to participate any more, please remove the userbox. Thanks.

Thanks for considering
I'm not really expecting that RfA to go anywhere, but I appreciate that you gave it real consideration instead of rejecting the idea out of hand. Mr. IP 《Defender of Open Editing》 07:58, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I had a bad feeling to begin with, but Xeno had me thinking I should give you a chance (so I did), but once B-man and Wisdom commented I knew I couldn't support. RfA's just not a test, Mr. IP, and it shouldn't be used as such. —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 08:03, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- True. I just figured I'd see if the community had room for an admin like me :D Mr. IP 《Defender of Open Editing》 08:07, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- If you had done it in good faith—not for mere experimentation—it might have done better. I think the < 500 edits would've been a problem as well, though. If you still desire to become an administrator, I suggest you wait at least seven months, because this honestly has already given you a bad reputation and won't disappear soon. Best, —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 08:13, 3 August 2008 (UTC).

RfA thanks
WHACK!
Whacking with a wet trout or trouting is a common practice on Wikipedia when experienced editors slip up and make a silly mistake. It, along with sentencing to the village stocks, is used to resolve one-off instances of seemingly silly behavior amongst normally constructive community members, as opposed to long term patterns of disruptive edits, which earn warnings and blocks.
Example
Failing to change the {{adoptme}} template to an {{adoptoffer}} template when you offer adoption to a user will result in you being slapped with a massive trout, it is your responsibility |

- LOL, I haven't adopted in a while (though Coroloro asked to be adopted and I took him on, if that counts), so I'm not quite sure why I'm being trouted, but slap away. :P —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 16:28, 3 August 2008 (UTC).
RE:Rollback
Hey Mizu! Sorry to hear about your illness! Get well soon (unless you already have!). I left the message to warn you about rollback being down and not working. I think there was a bug that screwed it up...
But yeah. Thanks!

- Heh, don't worry; I'm feeling much better now. Modern medicine, where would we be without you? Actually, I'm still pretty held up though since I'm on a flight right now to Rochester (borrowed my best friend's laptop, go figure!) as I'm taking a trip to Yonkers to visit family. I guess I'll be a little held up with WikiBacklog when I get back to Alaska but I'll have a computer in NY too, so I should at least be able to check in a couple times per day without the wiki crashing behind my back... :P Cheers! —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 19:41, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again for giving my nom genuine consideration; I appreciated it. I didn't mean to use RFA as a toy; sorry if I created a situation where it appeared I did. Look forward to working with you on WP in the future. Cheers, Mr. IP 《Defender of Open Editing》 14:35, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Mr. IP. Look forward to working with you in the future, too. :-) —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 19:33, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Many thanks!
Thank you...
...for participating in my RfA, which closed with 119 in support, 4 neutral and 5 opposes. I'm honestly overwhelmed at the level of support that I've received from the community, and will do my best to maintain the trust placed in me. I 'm also thankful to those who opposed or expressed a neutral position, for providing clear rationales and superb feedback for me to build on. I've set up a space for you to provide any further feedback or thoughts, should you feel inclined to. However you voted, thanks for taking the time out to contribute to the process, it's much appreciated. Kind regards, Gazimoff 21:46, 4 August 2008 (UTC) |
?
I have new messeges? I already read the trip story. :D
L337*P4wn 17:03, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Whoops, that's the second time this happened! I don't know what's going on, maybe it's just me (or maybe the plane's screwing with everything, I don't even know anymore :P) but I should check the laptop's settings. It will probably only get worse when I arrive though, my connection's already shaky and I'm going all around the state within one month (first Rochester, then Yonkers, Brooklyn, and Binghamton before the 25) so who knows what kind of catastrophe will befall this PC. Thanks for bearing with me on this, though! —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 17:11, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh Heh. It's fine. :D

- Ohoho... Well you can do whatever you want with that warning, because I own all of Wikipedia and its cousin (projects). Block me.
- Cheers, and thanks for the laughter! —Mizu onna sango15Hello! 16:56, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
